1. I think in the context of compressors, just having a play with the controls will not really give you any understanding, because when set effectively they're (usually) so subtle. If you can try and get your head around Si's compression 101 it'd be very useful.
2. But it has real controls!!! That's ace
3. Whammies are cool, but it's a very "digital sound". I use mine loads, but it's not for everyone.
4. heh, I gig* with like 25 pedals. God knows how you value them but none cost less than £40 and there are a few worth more than £100. *hopefully i'll actually have a gig on bass soon, can't wait.
5. Nice one, i'll have a listen at home.
6.
I've tried it absolutely everywhere but the end is 100x better. I think of it as a kind of sequencer that I 'play along to'. My effects chain generates my sound and then the slicer adds a rhythm that I join in with at the end. Putting effects after it seems to make your core signal a little muddy as all the sounds go haywire with the slicers pattern. Try it!
I tried it last night and almost blew my ear drum! Having it at the start of the chain, I had to have the effect level right up, but last night as soon as I turned it on my amp was clipping. I turned the effect level down, but then it just wasn't cutting through. I tried less dry level, but that didn't work. I wonder if it needs a bit of compression after it? What's your set up? Does it sound good through your bass rig?
7. OH MY GOD!!! I thought this was gone and had a little cry about it. If it's still here on the 25th you're getting a proper firm offer (it looks like you've been messed about a bit?!?!).
8.
There are a lot of players who cannot do this easily..... believe me
Good players? When I started playing to a click, it was weird in that the usual ebb and flow of tempo wasn't there, but it's a big loud clicking in your ear. If you're not in time, it's going to get pretty f***ing annoying!! I'm by no means even an average drummer, but I can play to a click.
9. I don't understand why it'd be difficult to drum to a click? Surely if you can't keep to a constant clicking, you're not much of a drummer?
10. I was also thinking that you could leave the front of the lower horn intact, but carve out the back of it, especially at the top. Whether that'd be enough to give you access I don't know.
11. Karma Audio do some very cheap condensors. I got one of their tiny little compact pack of two condensors to use for overheads and they're great! I think it cost $40ish. You could get them and 4 used sm57s and you'd have a great set. You could do with clips for the toms and snare though.
12. I have the Red5s, and I like them, but the clips are sh*t. They've all fallen apart now. You need patience and a tiny screwdriver to put them back together. I'm using them for recording so I can just attach them to boom stands, but for live I don't think they'd last.
13.
What does the slicer do exactly? Is it kinda like a long delay?
It's like a tremolo, but it does interesting rythms instead of just a constant repeat. It "slices" dynamic cuts in a rythmic way. There are a few harmonic modes too, which will harmonise the input as well as produce the rythmic pattern.
14. cool, i'll give it a go tomorrow. I don't get to have the rhythms as loud as i's like as it really pushes my amp, but now I think that might be because it's before a LOAD of dirt and compression.
15. ooo, I didn't think about putting the slicer at the end of the chain!
16. If you EQ it to sound like it does through his amp, you'll both be happy, surely? At least roll the top end off. Guitar cabs don't really put out much above 5KHz, but I bet the BOSS does!
17. Just in case the relevant mod misses the other thread - I'm sure you can get a script to integrate into the forum which will automatically resize images to a maximum size. EDIT: I notice the forum is in php. I know imagemagick can be run using php.
18.
It's an abbreviation of 'accompanying'. Mainly used by jazz musicians.
Thankyou! There's another "comping" in recording. I've no idea what it's an abbreviation for, but it's when they stick together loads of different takes to get a good one.
19. What's "comping"?
20. If you want to record some clean guitar, and then play it through the axe-fx, you will need some impedence matching equipment as linked to make the line-out from your computer/Edirol act like a guitar. Otherwise if you make all your patches for the line level signal, then you plug your guitar straight in, it could sound quite different. EDIT: having said that, I put line-outs into my pedals all the time, no problem, it's just I wouldn't shape my live sounds based on that.
21.
I have Reaper on both Mac & PC & they're just about identical. I like the Mac because it's a lot less prone to crashing or getting a virus.
I would suggest that you keep a computer for purely music purposes IE don't connect the f***er to the net, this way you don't risk viruses whether you're mac or PC.
22. I think it's important to recognise that these threads are getting views and downloads, even if they're not getting comments.
23. or have the home page in the 3rd person? Apparently "welcome" is the worst word to start with on a homepage. I was told that by an SEO "expert" at one of these seminars. I've no idea if it's truly valid. I think the plectrums at the bottom are very sexy. On the shorter pages, they really complete the layout. I'd be tempted to have them as a bottom "frame" (I know you're not allowed to use frames any more, but there's a way with CSS i'm sure) so that they stay there and you only scroll through the content in the middle. It's a nice site anyway! I haven't listened to your music as i'm at work.
