1. I opened a WH4 before, I thought it was a mightmare to get the board out! If you can't see any dry joints or broken contacts, well, that's as far as my knowledge goes. SFX repairs pedals, and there are a couple of other guys on here. Hopefully they'll see your post!
2. I wouldn't put any of those in the amp's effects loop. Also, two LS-2s seems excessive. Why not put all the pedals you want a clean blend with in the same LS-2 loop?
3. I think most onboard soundcards are crap, so if you want decent quality you need an external interface anyway. I assume that applies to Macs too.
4. oh, downer, I was going to get one
5. cool, well i'm just an hour or so up the road, just send me a PM some time.
6. I'm working on my band's new album Friday night which is why I can't make it. I'll look forward to the recordings then! I'd quite like to try recording some of this stuff myself actually. Let me know if you ever fancy some free demos, I have a fairly nice recording set-up coming on (although my mixing's coming on slower!!).
7. I wish I was free on Friday! I'm very interested in the sounds you're getting
8. Well, i've been doing it wrong for years, even though I know full well it's a fire risk. I suppose I should buy a couple of proper cables Has anyone actually had an instrument lead melt? I've always made a point of feeling the cables (i'm using patch leads atm) after practise, and they never get warm after an hour of loud volume jamming. Obviously I wouldn't want to encourage anyone to be as stupid as me, it's just i've never heard of anyone actually suffering this fate.
9.
Isn't a wah a band-pass, rather than a low-pass? The reason you're getting no high mids is (If I understand correctly) because the wah's frequency range goes lower than what you're feeding it. And personally, I'm MIDI sync'd with most of my set-up but I do use tap-tempo where I've not got round to MIDI-sync'ing.
yeh, good point. So it's the fact there's a hi pass on the line with the wah that makes it sound like that. Some of the wahs on the XP-100 are also really "subby" which can be used for these sorts of sounds.
10.
Which is why I need to try an OC-2! The OC-3 felt a little out of control to me and too fiddly for one or two useable sounds. The OC-2 may be similar, but might make more sense useability wise...
Did you try the OC-2 mode on the OC-3? I think if you're un sure, then a multi like the zoom B2 is a great idea, as you'd then be able to learn about all effects, and how to control them.
11. I watched some of the videos recommended in here last night. Some cool bass sounds!! I don't really have any synth pedals as such, but I reckon I can do a good portion of those sounds. The moog LPF - in what way is it better than a wah? And when you're using LFOs to control it, is that from a tap tempo button? Maybe not all wahs are like this, but on my board I have a low frequency line with some comp and OD, and then a high frequency line with my wah probe on. With the wah probe completely closed, I get no hi-mids from the high frequncy line, which is effectively a LPF to me. I can then bring them in slowly, or I can wah. I might have some modulation and probably dirt and pitch shifting going on in the high frequency line at the same time. Am I being stupid?
12. Would you play for Gary Glitter? Not even for a million pounds?!
13. I would assume the OC-2 mode would use the same circuit as the OC-2. I've not tried it, but someone else here did AB them.
14. You can stick all your pedals in the loop. When you want mental noise, turn it on! It takes a bit of the output and feeds it into the input. If you put analogue dirt pedals in there they should oscillate, but you can get all sorts of weird effects. I have my whammy and digital delay in one set to octave up, so it keeps pitch shifting the pitch shifted notes.
15. I thought the OC-3 had an OC-2 mode? And you didn't like the OC-3?
16. I don't see why you'd have the multi in the effects loop rather than on the floor? It sounds like you have a lot of guitar pedals there. You might want to think about adding a blend pedal to mix some of your clean sound in with the effects.
17. That Ebay link's not working for me. I've been staring at this bass for months now. So beautiful. I've had to prioritise my cash elsewhere, but i'll still cry when it sells
18. just another quick question before I check my bank balance. How many instances of this can you run at once? The focusrite site's being a bit weird for me sorry.
19. Sorry, what was I thinking... To be able to swap between two different basses AND use effects at the same time, you need a advanced multi effects processor. You'll need a MIDI floor board to control that as well.
20. You could just put your pedals in front of your amp? Sorry, I didn't realise they were in a loop. A "normal" set up would just be bass->chorus->delay->amp when you play live, the sound man would put a DI between the delay and the amp. When you swap basses, just turn the volume down on the P a bit.
21. I thought they were plastic until I bought one, then I realised it was too heavy.
22. I think the space echo might have a reputation though. That's the one you need to research properly in casde it's worth something. I'd agree with dood on the DOD, no idea on the comp. I thought my opinions were too vague which is why I didn't post! Post the link when you've Ebayed them
23. If your basses are significantly different in terms of output, then you'll need to level them some how. You could just do it with the volume pot, but for whatever reason people don't like doing that. The Boss LS-2 can have two different volumes set which you switch between. I'm sure there are other similar products. You probably want to make sure the volume's about the same right at the start of your chain, before pedals. Then, get the engineer to take his DI after your effects. I've never heard of a sound man refusing to use someone's effects before!! I've always had them put the DI box ontop of my amp, and then ask for the cable that I normally plug into my amp (which in your case is after pedals).
