I like limiters after compressors. You can use the compressor with a longer attack time to give a proper punchy sound, but then tame the peaks with a limiter. If you tame the peaks before the compressor, I would imagine you wouldn't get the same punch, but TBH i've never tried it.

I use mine in conjunction with lots of other pedals. I have 3 main reasons I bought it, and it might seem a bit overkill, but.. 1. A general overdrive patch which I can switch instantly from to.. 2. A digital delay + pedal wah patch (which would take a wah, delay, and TB loop to do) 3. and a Phaser/OD patch with the EXP pedal controlling the rate (which would take a phaser and one of those weird EXP pedal sucker thingies).

It's down at the moment, but if this is stickied, it should be of use in a couple of weeks. It should pick up any other similar images.

Oscillation is something that would be at the front of my mind having played with some synths at uni. However, I really haven't found that much use for it, I suppose because i'm not looking for an extreme sound. What pedals are we working with? If you put your whammy on octave down harmony, then next put your distortion with the gain up and the top rolled off, then loads of compression.

a syth sound could be as simple as getting an octave pedal and turning the dry signal all the way down, and the octave all the way up! It all depends on the kind of sound you're going for, as you've described above. Personally, I think some compression (if not fuzz) is a must, as is an octave. Anything else is just an effect! That wasn't a very helpful reply. when I want a "synth" sound, I roll off all my tone, turn all my dirt pedals on, and turn on an octave down harmony, oh and normally I would turn my wah on and leave it "up" so it's cutting top end.

I thought he might be doing that. There's no way I can get my right hand going that fast I can play the line just without all the funky little mutes that are very difficult to hear, and I guess they'd be pretty easy to work out if I could play that fast! Oh well, i'd better get practising. Cheers!

Octave first, then the ME-50B but the big muff you'll have to try both sides to find out what you like with wah, as it's two very different effects.

nice bob! Do you have a clean blend on your XP-100? I find that mine tend to lose me a bit of low end on some wahs, and also on octave up harmony.

I have a load of recording equipment and general gear to play with, along with a rehersal/recording room, and all the time in the world outside of my job. EDIT: but I did actually audition for a band who didn't want to come to my studio and didn't get it. So, maybe I am lacking in "soft skills" -

Sometimes my guitarist picks up a bass and will play some groovy riffs rediculously fast and it makes me very jealous.
