1. I have a question which could fit in here... I have a half decent set of monitors at home where I mix, and that's fine. However, where I record, I have a pair of headphones, or the world's worst PA to choose from. Is there any chance I can get a PA that's OK to monitor through? It's just even with everything set flat my crap PA was all muddy mids - I guess 'cos it's voiced for vocals? I'm looking to spend less than £150 to get a set up which could maybe help us at rehearsal, but mainly function as monitoring for listening back to takes.
2.
Something like this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk//New-PP3-%2f-PP6-9V-...3939aa3fee7e513 EDIT Just seen that's centre +ve, but you get the idea!
Yeh exactly. I haven't tried it yet though.
3. I think you should leave the teeth in the cutaway
4. Well, i've used a peavey combo for about 8 years now. It certainly doesn't look high end, but it puts out everything I need. I was recording a metal band the other day, and this kid turned up with a little ashdown combo. I said "will that be loud enough? You're welcome to try my rig!". He laughed and said "I think this is going to be better, it should be, it cost me £275" - as though price has some bearing on the sound produced. His guitarist friend was using some cheap no name guitar through a marshall MGFX and had great tone, but the bassist just didn't get it. Later on, I asked to borrow his headphones for a second. "yeh, but they only cost £65" - WTF?!? I've always said you can get the best sounds out of cheap gear. I remember reading similar comments from the members of Asian Dub Foundation - I think the guitarist plays an encore or similar. I have absolutely no desire for "high end gear".
5. I know i'm the one always asking for night shots, but that's because the "day shot" is kind of a given. EDIT: Lol, I said that becase the first pic didn't load! Damn it. That looks like a fun board!
6. that IS annoying. Maybe I can wire it for a battery.
end of
I've only just realised the irony of this expression. End of what? You didn't finish your sentence, it's missing the end!
8. I'm pretty sure i've worked out the main bit, but it sounds like he's doing a lot more than I can tell, like loads of slapped or popped ghost notes or something. anyway, I can't find a decent performance video online, and i'd really like to be able to play this monstor bassline. Surely there is someone on BC who can help...
9. It's nothing specific to music. Loads of people speak with authority on things they know absolutely nothing about. God knows why, and I wish they'd stop!
10. This is something that would be really useful for a lot of people. I'd like something like the LS-2 but replace the mode knob (we only want the mix mode) with a crossover knob.
11. have a look at dv247.com, they have a lot of interfaces, USB and Firewire. I'm not sure what your exact requirements are but you should be able to find something on there. If it's too expensive keep an eye out on the for sale forum. I've seen some really good deals on interfaces on here in the past.
12. yeh, nice one, you could probably fit one of those little clean blender on there as well, it should give you more punch. You know if you plug into the other output on the echohead, the delays fade out even after you've turned off the pedal, which sounds more natural to me.
13. I'm powering it using a godlyke powerall. I get the impression that it's true bypass, but i'm not sure if i've tried it with no power. I couldn't find a battery compartment on it. I don't really want to ask the guy I bought it off, as it would seem like i'm accusing him of selling me a dud after i'd already received everything and told him it was OK (without checking, what an idiot). Ta for the reply, if anyone thinks this would be more appropriate in another area, please say so, 'cos I could do with getting this going!
14.
Hole sale.
15. Basically, if there's a jack in the input, the LED is on, no matter what you do with the footswitch. It doesn't seem to make any difference in tone so I guess it's bypassed? But with the LED on. It's been like this since I got it (used off here), I stupidly left it too long to test it after receiving it. (3 weeks) Any ideas?
16.
'clock' inside my head
Actually, maybe it's that i'm using, and it's guided by the hats. When i play drums, my right hand is the clock in my head.
17.
Time from the kick, feel from the hats?
I don't really know, it's difficult for me to differentiate between time and feeling. The kick has more of a bearing on what i'm going to play, than it does on my "feel", so in a way, yes E.G I might write a bassline that is synched to the kick and snare pattern, but when i'm playing that line, even though it's "locked in" i'm still "feeling" the hats. Talking about performing music can get pretty vague and confusing!
18. It's not that I concentrate on the right hand, it's just that I think that's where I get my "feel" from.
19. Hi Hats or just right hand in general, yeh, that's what i'm listening to.
20.
What I want to do is have two wahs and two drives, one of each running parallel in each loop, and blend them. But the volume problem arises when I want just one distortion on. I can get what I want if I just use the blended loop for the purpose of drive/wah but I want to be able to use other effects in the loops individually without having to go mad knob twiddling.
Like this? loop A wah OD loop B wah OD chorus phaser fuzz flange A+B blended. I don't understand why you'd have a problem, I do a very similar thing with my LS-2, you just have to set all your pedal volumes right.
21. Stick a HD in there and sell it as a full system!
22. That's pretty cool, but, if you wanted all that flexibility, wouldn't you just buy a programmable pre-amp/multi effects unit?
