I'd guess it was the guitar amp. The other way round would be a bit illogical.

I'd like criticism about my band(s). I don't think anyone's ever given me anything other than positive feedback, which is no good other than for an ego boost.

I can change strings on the day as long as I stretch them, the same as for a guitar.

Bang on OG. The ammount of times i've told the bassist how bad the drummer was and he just says "nout I can do"...

I normally hate basses with the spikey bit at the bottom, but I love that!

I bought 2 M-Audio delta 1010lt cards for about £60 each, and a sh*t 24 channel mixer for £30, which means I can record up to 20 tracks simultaneously for £150 (plus mics and cables, stands etc etc).

I play a 6 string. I play lots of chords but also use the higher strings on their own sometimes. There is quite a noticable difference in tone for the high C (much more like guitar than bass) IMO so if this bass has another string higher than that, I can see why they're considering these differently. Making them fretless would avoid the attacky sound you get off frets, and any buzz, thus making it a bit more bass-like. So, it all makes a bit of sense to me. However, only having the bridge pup for those two strings?!? What's that all about?

I've done samples of my board in the past but been so embarassed by how it sounds i've never posted. Playing in a band, through my amp, my board sounds amazing, but DI'd solo bass...... eugh.

there's a difference between cutting through and contributing to the overall sound. A lot of bands don't need a bass sound that cuts through, the low rumble to reinforce the guitars is enough.

I was asking about the PSU as I used to use two of them until the hum got rediculous. I would have thought the two akai pedals would require at least 500Ma between them, which is the limit of your DC brick, but if it works for you...

Thanks[/quote] hi pass "lets through" everything ABOVE a certain point low pass "lets through" everything BELOW a certain point So in general, use a high pass to roll off lows, and a low pass to roll off highs.

I played a gig the other day, and the sound guy seemed to just match everything to the volume of the guitar on stage. So, while he got a (really, very very) good sound for all bands, we were the only band at a reasonable volume for the gig. I had to stand outside for the other bands as i'd lost my ear plugs and it was literally making me feel sick.

I'm going to hang around and find out

this is why you need pedals. 1 setting for no guitar, 1 setting for some guitar, 1 setting for loads of guitar. Obviously then you have to get carried away and buy 100 dirt pedals

Every amp is different with a different frequency response, so while one amp might require you turn up the mids, another might not, and they could easily both be valve amps. I understand that nothing "quite" works like a valve, but IMHO technology has come so far as to make them redundant. Perhaps you do want that "natural warmth" that a valve gives you, but it might be cheaper and easier to get your EQ and compression/OD right, or use a modeller. Likewise it's perfectly possible to make a totally "transparent" valve amp, with absolutely no "natural warmth". I know loads of people will disagree, but i've not yet read anything rational about why SS can't do what valves can. It's a big like an argument we had about modelling. There was one member on here who claimed they could tell what kind of amp someone was playing from OUTSIDE a venue. It just doesn't make any sense. There's EQ on the bass, there could be pedals, compressors, all sorts of different cabs etc. Some people are just irrational.

You don't have to mark all your tracks. If you don't mark them, they are still there, just in the unmarked folder when you open it on the PC. I'm glad you're getting on with it, i'll have a listen to your recording later.
