1. I think i've covered it all in the title. If anyone wants to see my band creepJoint play in Hanley, we're at Fat Cats on thurday and the Underground on saturday. I play drums, but there will be an interesting pedal board on the bass front (he uses my gear).
2. I can get half way there just by playing with my right hand over the last few frets of the fret board.
3. Heh, it's OK, I have plenty of windows discs
4. When you say Win 7 is marginally better than XP you're on about XP64 yeh? I think i'll give Win 7 a go anyway.
5. So by putting a 64bit OS on, I can still run SX3 and all my plug ins, and Cubase will be able to use all 4Gb of RAM as opposed to 3 in XP32 (right?). Why would I go with win7 over XP64? This is purely for recording, it will never be plugged into the net.
6. I've just got my hands on a nice PC. It's of considerably better specification than my current recording rig. I have XP on it at the moment, but as it has a 64bit CPU i'm considering installing XP64 or Win7 (I have both). Will I see any improvement in Cubase SX3? Or is there a new 64bit version of Cubase which I need?
7. I like this but it looks like you might have room there for more dirt or a delay. Sort it out!
8.
there might well be an ac3, but IIUC, the wisdom is that the ac2 is superior
They always say the older ones are better. I used to know a band who's guitarist used an AC2 and he just couldn't get it to sound right through his amp - too brittle, so he had to make himself a switcher so he could cut his amp and feed a DI to the PA from the AC2. My guitarist has an AC3 and it sounds great through his amp or DI'd. Make of that what you will!
9. The best feeling I get is when we're building up a section, and my overdrive is responding nicely to my dynamics, so it starts off nice and clean until I dig in and it gets really dirty, and my bass literally sounds angry (I wonder if that's also to do with playing harder giving more of an initial sharpness to the notes).
...... Its the notes that matter, the music, not the gear you make it with. When the note is right, I am smiling.
It sounds to me like you may be ingoring the potential you have to make a contribution to the overall sound. To me, the note I play is very important, and I need to hear it, LOUD. But, that's pretty damn easy, and (depending on your group/emsemble) there is lots more space in the frequency spectrum to fill. Why ignore all that? I know it's just a preference, but have you ever been tempted to try and create a more "full range" or dare I say it interesting tone?
10. I bgouth a "factory 2nd" stilletto 6er off Ebay and it's the best purchase i've ever made!! My friend likes it so much he recently bought the same model used off this site. Great basses!
11. I can't figure out how they work?
12. I'd quite like to do some hip hop type stuff. I can play the drums or bass, I don't mind either. I'd prefer to work in my studio in Stoke. Anyone localish interested?
13. I thought they were on AC-3 now? Anyway, my guitarist has one and it's great.
14. I read that article ages ago. I just try and line them up as best I can in cubase. Monitoring both at the same time while looking at a meter is a brilliant idea which i'll be stealing thankyou!

recording

providing your signal is decent to start with, and at line level, then going into the line input on an onboard soundcard should be fine. I used to do it all the time. Velvet - I guess your pedals (or whatever you're using??) is helping.
16. unicorn sh*t - not a bad guess!! The only effect i've ever used on acoustic bass was distortion. All sorts of distortion. It sounds amazing with a bit of blend, because the attack you get from an acoustic bass is like a slap in the face.

Perhaps your laptop can switch the input from mic to line? Did you have to adjust any settings to get rid of distortion?
18. Sorry, I meant what NOS valves will be in it.
19. What OS will it run?
20. That seems quite definitive, thanks. I wouldn't know if it applies to me as I have no idea if it's tendonitis. My GP said "rest it, it's strained". I paid to see some osteopaths, and they said that my wrists are too thin for my tendons, and so they get strained. No idea what the implications are. They told me to increase strength in my wrist but every time I try to w*** it just hurts more.
To transfer from minidisc to computer you'll need to connect the output of the MD player to the line input on the PC and use something like Audacity to record it.
Fixed!!

steviedee

I bought a nice mic from steviedee. He was excellent to deal with, the mic arrived as soon as it could have in perfect condition, and was packed perfectly.
23.
Or look at it this way I have a 10 month baby who at times is too strong for me to hold. How would you like to be sitting there unable to hold your own child because you followed a £5 book rather than going and seeking medical advice from someone looking at your specific problem. Turning a simple easily fixed problem into something more major and unrepairable. Is it worth wrecking yourself, your future ,possibly ignoring an early symptom of something much worse just to avoid using one of the only free services we still have??
ONLY sh*t DADS BUY THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think anyone's advocating buying a book instead of going to your GP! I've been to my useless GP and so i'm interested in the book. I suppose I should be more interested in finding a new GP
24. It's shameful, but i'd look at the guitard.
