1. I do it when playing drums and it gets really painful. Any solutions would be appreciated. I tried chewing gum but still got the same ache and managed to swallow it once.
2. I use a clean blend, but I use it to give extra "punch". RE a crossover - I tried this before, using my peavey combo for clean bass, and my pedals and guitar combo for effects. It sounds awful compared to running both amps from the effects (with the low tuned out fo the guitar combo). Maybe I just like it when the low frequencies are distorted.
3.
MB1. That looks great! any soundbites?...ive seen Mr Claypool use this on Simon says! played with a drumstick they sound great!.Have considered making one myself a Metal bodied one...havent got round to it though! ...Cheddatom...Its called a whamola ...check out whamolalab.com for more on this.
I knew the name but I still can't find any sort of "project guide". It can't be too hard anyway.
4. Well, some people like their pedals to be so transparent that you can't tell they're on
5. We had something like 8 guitars and an acoustic bass (I had my 6ers with me) nicked from our house. We bought them back from a drug dealer for £60. He said he just "put the word out" and found them. Hmmmmmm. Still, that was about £4k of guitars. My aria pro II is still missing though
6.
I soak my cables in vinegar
Yeh, me too, it forms a protective layer around your tone so that nothing can get in between your fingers and the PA to suck it out, not even effects.
7. If it only starts to feed back when you open the tone control, then I would guess it's high frequencies feeding back. What cab are you using? Do you have a graphic EQ on your amp? I have a noise gate because I can't avoid feedback with the amount of gain I use.
8. Ta very much! I'm on the lookout for cheap sh*t basses to butcher.
9.
You know, I don't think I've ever seen anyone play a 5-string at a gig (and I go to a lot of gigs) or met anyone who owns one. Where are they then? They're all here in the 'For Sale' section or the Basschat 'Porn' section.
Weird! Maybe you don't go to many gigs? If anything I wish there were more 6ers, but only to perv at as I have no dosh.
10. ahh, i see, there is something stopping it at that right angle, and it bends further backwards. I know i'm never going to get round to it, but i'm so tempted to give up a lifetime of laziness and make one.
11. Is the whammy bar on a spring? Sorry for all the questions but since you've posted it i've been searching for some sort of project guide and I can't find anything!
12.
Was that at Koko? I saw that show and it was awesome! The fingerboard is glued on, the whole thing was originally a fretless bass and It wasnt the nicest of things to play, the neck was very wide and it was top heavy. So! Out came the circular saw! Dan
Yeh, Koko, it was amazing. A few guys on here went, there was a thread about it somewhere. So you basically got an old fretless bass and cut the wings off and put the whammy bit on the top? I'm really thinking about making one.
Complete side note but you need to buy a soldering iron stand Even the 4.99 one from maplins is better than resting it on a tool box.
My iron has a hook on the handle which I use to hang it on my mug.
13.
but is'nt effects loop used for effects/processor & an EQ is a processor (am i right)..?
I don't think the word "processor" is really relevant. The effects loop on an amp is intended to work with line level (and impedence?) effects (or processors ) but it could sound great with your EQ pedal in there. you never know until you try. If you keep it at low volumes you can't break anything. If you were to max out the EQ pedal, it could overdrive the power amp, which could be good or bad.
14. I realised that I don't move about nearly as much as I feel like I am. I hated it but really tried hard to move about more. Now i'm on drums I don't have to do anything :-D
15. They can be useful after distortion too. I used EQ pedals in several different places. I don't think your amp's effects loop would be appropriate, as this is for effects which operate at line level.
16. There's no point to "three strikes and you're out" if you don't tell him he's struck!
17. Really? That's never happened to me and i've had 2 different Zoom multis now. Data doesn't fade away over time. It's not as though if you leave your phone for a year the numbers will disappear. That sounds like a proper dodgy fault!! Ray: I don't think vibrations will confuse the electronics.
18. That's ace. I saw Les playing his a few weeks ago. I'd love one! How did you do the fingerboard?
19. You know how we perceive heavier strings to be "beefier", well is that a fact or is it just perception? I like heavy strings, but I wouldn't necessarily say I could tell the difference just by listening. My guitarist for example, really likes Nuno's tone, and can't believe he gets that sort of defined attacky tone with quite light/loose strings. I reckon it's not that big a factor. Does anyone actually know?

TAB

eugh, when I did my degree I took a module specifically to learn to read and I couldn't do it. Obviously if I put my mind to it.... but i'm way too negative. I'll take lessons for it when i'm old and/or afluent.

TAB
No I don't know him. But I still say that if he started you on tab he did you a disservice.
Well, even though he was a great teacher, and probably the nicest guy i'll know, you're probably right. If i'd learned to read from the start I could have considered playing in loads more projects or maybe even getting good and doing sessions or something.
22. You could probably fit them in a shallow case, I think Gator do one.

TAB
Do the little stroke lines only show where the beats are or do they actually show the rhythms? If you were taught using tab, then the teacher is at fault and has done you a major disservice. If you had lessons with me you would learn the notes.
Good point, yeh TAB doesn't show you how long the notes are (if that's what you mean?) My teacher was Joe Dring, you may have heard of him? He's very well known (and paid) in the area. It would have been good to learn to read music properly, but I couldn't say a bad word about him. I tried to read in my teens and couldn't do it.
24.
Its not only cheap comps that are 1u as it goes
Of course! I just couldn't think of a cheap one that's 2U
Just to clarify, and this will sound stupid, but if a tuner/compressor is 1U then you suggest a 2U case because I'm getting two units. Not because a 1U device requires a 2U case? So is the U value the height of the thing? Then the depth varies so best I can do is look at some possible purchases and give myself a bit of room on the depth of the case I choose?
Yeh, basically.
25. The units will have their size on the spec in Us so most compressors* and tuners will be 1U and you'll need a 2U case to put them in. The depth varies too though, and I don't think this is as simple. EDIT: *Cheap compressors!
