1. Just in case anyone's actually interested, i've done a screen shot of the page. The titles are to the right of the ads, rather than being below and to the left. No amount of cache clearing, uninstalling and reinstalling, re-booting, downgrading, upgrading, getting the latest bullshit off the manufacturers, leaving the computer off for 60 thousand infinity hours, or kicking has fixed it.
2. your mic input is for the onboard soundcard. You want to use an interface instead of the on board sound card, so you get an interface with an input on it, and plug that in via USB or firewire. If you just want something as cheap as possible I think behringer do a USB one.
3. If it works, post your diagram for us! I could do with the same box.
4.
Erm, thats what I have done. I haven't been trying to do a passive blend. So far I have built two circuits to get this to work. One that buffers the clean signal and the send (B.Blender) and one that just buffers the clean signal (Minimal Blender). Both work with other pedals but neither works properly with the fuzz face.
I'm on about one that buffers the clean signal and the return. So, the fuzz face sees a passive signal, but the clean signal is buffered after the split, and the return from the pedal is buffered.
5. If you put a buffer on the clean signal, but after the send, it should work. So you have input, split into clean and send, then buffer the clean after the send, and buffer the return, and blend the two.
6.
I'm all for people having an opinion, but you a so blatantly wrong in this case it's crazy. The band is majorly tight, and just ace.
Heh, this is the first time ever my opinion's been wrong!! Damn, I need to work on my taste.
It dispels the myth that Jacko wasn't really ready to do the gig. Looks like a massive amount of pre-production work had already gone into the show. Whatever meds were supporting him, he obviously still has it. Despite the accusations and madness, he was still one the best entertainers on the planet. And those female dancers...
I agree with all that. I was pretty shocked at how energetic he seemed, and I was impressed with the way he directed the band. (and the female dancers...)
7.
@Jack I've made a buffer for the looper already and it works great. The problem I am having is that fuzz face type circuits work best going straight from the instrument. If there is an active circuit or a buffer before it they sound really crappy. That is why pedals like the Woolly Mammoth are notoriously bad with active basses. When I put it through the buffered effect loop the fuzz face sounds different because of the change of impedance. If I use my cheapo Behringer FZ-2 clone or my Clone Theory the looper works great because of the input and output buffers built into those circuits.
Couldn't you just buffer the return and not the send?
8.
Moffett totally gets it. You don't get gigs like that if you don't.
I just had a quick read on the net. It seems like he had a lot of history with MJ and the Jacksons? I'm not saying the guy's a crap drummer (although that is how I worded my opinion) i'm just saying I personally don't like the drumming on the majority of the songs on "This is it". Whether or not someone "get's it" is obviously subjective. Like I said i'd have to watch it again to articulate my opinion better, it's just the only reason I watched the damn film was because I was hoping for some sort of mind-blowingly groovy rythm section and I was a bit dissapointed. MJ's surprisingly energetic performance more than made up for that though.
9.
No way is Jonathan 'Sugarfoot' Moffett crap.
OK, the word "crap" is going too far, but it seemed like he just didn't get it at all. It's quite hard to explain my opinion without watching through it again, which would take a while (I watched it months ago). Having said that, it's the first of MJs live performances i've ever seen, so maybe he's the best drummer MJ's ever had.
10. Yeh I thought the drummer was crap (better than me but not really "feeling it"). I had a problem with the sub level being too high. I don't know if that was just my system...? It was entertaining but I really wanted to skip some songs, which I guess you can do if you pay for the DVD.
11. Allright, fine. Take my bass chat support ticket and shove it up your bin. I've got used to where the links are now.
12.
I think ...
Heh, well they did have me back another 4 times. However, that wasn't enough for them to actually let me know whether I got it or not.
13. I wouldn't start smoking weed infront of someone I didn't know without warning them or scoping them out about it. That's pretty rude. Someone people would feel really awkward about it. Having said that, I went to an audition and got really stoned with a band. It went pretty well.
14. I always have a clean blend with my effect board. I always have limiting on on the board. 90% of the time I use some distortion blended with compressed clean. I bought distortion pedals because I loved muse. I started using compression and blending after experimenting in the studio. I took it a bit further by adding EQ pedals and boost pedals to alter the level/tone in songs as I had done in the studio with the computer IE more low end in choruses, mid boost in riffs etc. My favorite effect is probably wah!
15. nooooooooooo, sell it to me!!!!
16.
Unusual? The gear or the people?
Heh the gear!! The people are your usual gearstalkers. To be fair, if I went to see me play i'd probably perv on my pedalboard. It's sexy.
17. I used to get people asking about the 6 string bass and the huge pedalboard, but that's 'cos they're unusual. I have on occasion checked out gear, or asked about gear, but only when i've heard it first and become interested that way.
18. I love distortion, but there are so many different ways to get a cool distorted tone. I always use blending because without that the tone lacks "punch" imo. I guess that's the distortion taking away from the attack.
19.
It has a line out and a DI socket - he used the line out as he only had jack plug leads.
The master volume knob shouldn't affect the line-out level. Only the input volume knob will affect this.
20. IMO you don't need an audio interface. Take the FX send or pre-amp out or DI output and put it into the line in on your mac. On board soundcards are in general not great, but people do wibble on about Macs and how great the hardware is. Either way, if you're just looking to mess about for fun, do this until you get frustrated with your soundcard. This is likely to happen when you want to monitor your bass through VST effects and stuff, which you won't be able to do as there will be a time lapse (latency). However, using your amp as a DI box AND studio monitor means you can mute the channel you're recording and just play along with the drum loops, listening through your amp.
21. Just don't get all wound up about it.
22. Your amp should have a line out, or DI out, or pre-amp out, or something, that the soundman uses to DI your bass from the pre-amp to the desk. If not, he needs a DI box which you put before your amp in the chain. Unless he's micing your amp, he doesn't need to mess with the output volume on your amp. The output on the amp is YOUR level. The fader on the mixer is HIS level. Not sure if i've explained that properly but yeh, i'd never run an amp head at max volume.
23. You don't NEED a VSTi because there are some standard MIDI sounds built into windows (or standard soundcards, not sure). You do have to set an output for your MIDI channel.
24. Nope. I should have included that in my "list of things the tech support operative MAKES you do". Can you please un plug the power plug, and leave it un-plugged for 60 seconds sir I've already re-set it! Since I asked you to? No! Well I need you to un-plug it for 60 seconds now sir. WHY!?!?!? WHY!?!?!?!
