1. You can get a free DAW for recording - Reaper, or if you want something more expensive, PM me. All i'm saying is, if budget is a primary concern, then crezs USB interface will be all you need if used with your mixer and it's only £40. You could spend your change on another MIDI controller to help with your live performance. Otherwise, yeh the Fast Track is fine. When you get an interface you'll be able to get a lead that goes direct from an output to the input on an A/B box. I bought phono to jack leads off Ebay. Wouldn't you want to run your bass and your mac sometimes though? If so you'll need some sort of mixer. One of the blender pedals might work better, putting the mac into the FX return.
2. If you get a limiter and set it to UBER SQUASH then level changes from your pedals won't matter. Not many people like that sound though!
3.
Thanks for that. Would I just need to send the mixer signal via 1/4" jack to the interface then?
yeh as long as your interface has a couple of analogue inputs (which could be jacks or phono or RCA or whatever) then you just attach these to the outputs of your mixer. If you get a multi channel interface your mixer will need direct outs or insert points on each channel you want to record. Just to make that clear, I have an interface with 10 inputs but at home my mixer only has stereo outputs. I can record 2 mics from my mixer panned left and right and record this. However, at my studio the mixer has insert points so I can take leads from these to the inputs on my interface and record 10 channels at a time.
4. Just to say, you can use your mixer as a pre-amp for mics, so you don't need an interface with any XLR inputs or built in pre-amps.
5.
(oh and the whole studio is run by Windows )
HAHAHAHAA yes! I'll have a listen tonight.
6. If you're EQing on the little mark, and IF this EQ needs to be replicated FOH, then you should DI from the amp.
7. Is that my mate Henry? Glad it's still progressing

Distortion?
Totaly agree, there reasonably cheep to pic up , bomb proof construction, an can use it as a booster al the way through the spectrum to heavy gain. recomend
I would not use an ODB3 for high gain settings, it gets very "fizzy".
9. Interesting!! I'd like to try it.
10. It sounds like you just need to drive the head harder. Can you increase the output from your EQ?
11.
Might wanna rig a little 1x12 for highs.
I lolled.
12. Get a whammy (XP 100 if you can find one) then you get chorus and fun pitch shifting.
13. Are you using the "enhance" feature on the pedal? AFAIK this is quite different sounding to the boss LMB-3. The general limiting in both pedals is near identical. If you are using the enhance function it might be work re-housing the behringer, or better yet just get a little true bypass loop for it so you don't have to bother using the behringer switch.
14. I heard the album the other day. I really loved "songs for the deaf" and was hoping some of that was down to Grohl influencing Homme, but apparently not as this just sounds like QOTSA to me, and not proper hard rocking QOTSA, the more recent sort of sound like lullabies to paralyse (sp?). Also, IMO his voice sounds quite a lot different. You can tell it's Homme but it seems really different to before. It's well produced and some riffs are good but it's a little boring. I'll give it another few goes.
15. yeh there is a master volume setting for each patch. I'm not sure what it's called, but it's very easy to level out the patches on this pedal.
16. While I was gigging in a band I built up my collection (which included ibe zoom multi for guitar) and I enjoyed messing with the order and settings and just generally stamping on them. A year or so after the drummer left and i'd only been playing drums, but I bought a GT-6B because I thought it was a bargain. I'd heard a friend using one before and it was great. I played with it (having quite a bit of fun!) for around an hour but couldn't get any usable sounds out of it. I found the menus very frustrating. For example, I have no idea how to assign the EXP pedal to anything other than volume. I'm not think, and I did have the manual with me. Anyway, an hour was enough, I loaned it indefinitely to our bass player. Now i'm back on the bass in a band, I love my old pedal board, but part of me thinks I should really sit down and work out how to work the GT-6B 'cos it's a hell of a lot smaller and lighter and could leave me ££££s better off if I sold my single pedals.
17. Is it as big as it looks? How's the studio coming along?
18.
I've lost the manual for the Boss LS-2 and I need a bit of help here. I want to try two things with the two amp rig: 1- Run the two amps on all the time, one clean and add the effects just on the second one when needed. 2- Have one amp clean at all times and only kick in the second amp with the effects as required. Can I do it with the LS-2? If so, what are the right pedal settings for each option?
1 - I'm not sure if you wan do this. You might need 2 inputs on your effects amp. Then you could have send A going straight to the amp, and send B going through some pedals and then to the amp. If they're hi/lo gain just use the knobs on the LS-2 to level them out. 2 - If you plug the output of the LS2 into your main clean amp and send A into your effects chain, and have it on A+B/Bypass, then hopefully it would work. If it mutes the clean amp when you switch on the pedal you'd have to add a patch lead to the send and return B. Then use the knobs to level it out.
19. They both give you the ability to immediately record 8 simultaneous tracks into your computer. The Alesis has 4 Mic pre-amps which means you can record 4 mics simultaneously straight away. The M-Audio only has 2 mic pre-amps but features ADAT which I beleive means you could add extra channels later....? For that reason i'd go with the m-audio but it might not be right.
20. oh, i've already read it and forgotten about it :-/
21. I think live he's still using the DBS stuff. A scan of that article would be great!
22. that multi track recorded is quite expensive considering you already have a computer which can handle half the job. What you need is an audio interface with a couple of mic inputs built in. Then when you want to record more than a couple, you will have to invest in some pre-amps to get the mic signals to line level for the other inputs on your interface. There are loads of usb and firewire interfaces around. I have PCI cards but I don't know what's available for macs. All you need from the interface is enough inputs to record as many DIs as you need, plus as many pre-amps and you need for now. Depending on how much cash you want to spend there are some interfaces with 8 built in mic pre-amps.
23. I'd already done that. what I hadn't done was select MIDI inputs and then change them to active. God know why they'd be set as inactive, but they were. It's working now!!! GREAT
