1. Have you looked in Maplins?
2. The best advice would be to read the manual but..... Now that you have your "natural" bass sound, copy that patch to a number of other patches. Do this by pressing "save" (or whatever it is) once, then change the patch number, then press save again. Now you have a few patches that all sound the same with no effects on them. For the Octave, turn the far left knob to the synth module, then select the harmonizer or whatever it's called, then use the knobs to adjust the level of the octave and the level of your dry effect. Then press save, twice. Done! It's all that simple really. What is a little difficult is the 2 char display. It means you really have to read the manual or that little chart that comes with it so that you know which codes refer to which effect. To change the expression pedal assignment you have to turn the module knob (far left) all the way clockwise and then change the setting. If you've selected pedal wah it could be set automatically, but you might have to set it manually. If you have specific problems I could maybe offer more specific advice...?
3.
Only if it's a regulated SMPS which I don't think it is.
I don't know what that is! But I do know I have several AC-DC convertors that have american plug on and I just put an adaptor on the end. Am I risking anything? In particular two laptops and a 9v DC pedal supply.
4. Can't you plug the american psu (with an adaptor) into the mains? That should work.
5. I bought a Delta 1010Lt soundcard from Tony. As soon as I paid it was in the post and I received it the next day! Very well packaged too. Cheers!
6.
Perhaps the worst idea ever, so please try not to shout, but if you still have the part, and you are careful...SUPERGLUE?
It's not a bad idea. If you get the glue to stay in the centre, you should be able to attach any shaft you want and turn the pot.
7. Cubase crashing every time I want more than one SVX running is the last thing I want! As soon as I get my new soundcard i'm going to build a slave PC to run all my plug-ins on.
8.
cheddatom : yup, although you could try fiddling with your buffer size - not really recommended though as you'll trade latency for processor power.
I don't have any latency issues so are you saying that if I decrease the buffer size I will get more cpu power? But I might get some latency?
9.
It's made by IK Multimedia who IMHO produce the best (and therefor resource intensive) VST plug-ins known to man.
So my issues are not surprising and the only thing I can do is add processing power?
10.
Blimey! Really? No, I haven't found that to be the case. I'd been using it with an XP Pro Pentium 4 HT with no issues and then on an XP Dual Core box with no probs. I havent got a new version that supports Vista yet, so can't try it on my 64bit OS.
Yeh, when i'm using cubase, I have the "VST Performance" monitor on, which is like a level meter for CPU usage. Running a standard mix projrect for me would be about 20 channels of mono audio, routed through 6 group channels, running between 10 and 20 VST plug-ins as well as EQ and stuff. My system is an Althlon Mobile running at 2.2GHz (overclocked) with 3 Gb RAM and a fairly fast IDE HD. My soundcards are M-Audio Deltas. Normally the meter will be showing at around a 3rd, jumping up and down as and when I adjust things. When I turn on the Ampeg plug-in, the meter jumps up to 2/3!!! Possible explainations anyone?
11. I use it as a VST plug-in quite a lot, but it totally sucks my processing power so sometimes I have to arse about bouncing down the bass track with the ampeg processed onto it, if you know what I mean. Does anyone else find this?
12.
The Space Station isn't actually a space station. It's the XP-100 Whammy Wah sadly. I bought it thinking it was a space station but for £50, who cares either way? I might get it repaired some time.
How did that happen? It's looking decidedly yellow!! I suggest you look up the "xp-1000" mod for this pedal, which will be loads more fun than a repair.
13. how much for the metal zone? Are you near Stoke?
14.
interesting box, can it do effects? the line6 seems very basic but would do what I want. how much space does it have?
It doesn't do effects, not sure of the memory capacity. It's very small in physical size. I tend to put it on "auto record" and just mark the occasional riff. I use it on average 30 minutes per day, and I only leave it plugged into the computer for 10 minutes while I copy the files etc. This gives you an idea of the amount of time it can record for, and the amount of time the battery lasts for. The Zoom H4 has always looked great to me, but I have a proper recording set up so this little line6 dealy is just what I need and nothing more.
15.
Vocal PA support only ? How big is this stage ? Will it accommodate a 7 piece band (inc. keyboard rig and 4 piece brass section) ? Thought this was a bigger place. Cheers, Nathan
Maybe i'm wrong about the PA as I have a vague memory of him trying to get a DI out of my amp. I doubt they'll have many mics for your brass section! It'd be best to try and get hold of the soundman before you leave for the gig to sort it out. You will be cramped on the stage, especially if there are other bands on filling it with gear. I could hardly move and we're a three piece.
16. I've been using a "line6 backtrack" which my girlfriend got me for christmas. I record all my ideas on it, either with a mic, or plugged in. Then once a week I put them onto the computer and listen to them all and cut out the good bits to show to others or work on myself. I'm not sure how much they are. I love it so much because the quality of the mic is simply amazing for the size of it.
17. Looking good. You need all gold knobs for your mixing desk now.
18. We played the Fiddlers Elbow twice near the start of last year. We were told we'd have to bring 15 people or we'd be charged!? But we knew in advance so just got plenty of mates in. That was the first gig. The 2nd gig we had already passed the test but and mates didn't want to make the journey again. There were around 15 people in there, which as small pubs go (played a lot of them!!) isn't too bad. I very much doubt you'd ever get any record execs in there. From what I remember the PA was OK for vocals, I don't think he mic'd anything else up. The soundman was friendly instead of the standard c***. We didn't share/borrow any backline. Anyway, it wasn't too hard to get to, the sound was great on stage (probably down to us more than him) we went down well, no hassle, back home for a victory smoke by 1am! (I did actually hit a fox on the way home which cause £1500 worth of damage to an A4 estate, but that's got nout to do with the venue)
19. No idea, it's what I read in the cubase help file!!
20.
Am I right in assuming the SPDIF method would only be a single stereo output so you'd be applying an effect to the whole song? I've never used any of my SPDIF connections before. Whereas the FX Teleport method would allow you to run different effects on different tracks of course. I only used it once but had no problems with latency over two machines joined with a crossover ethernet cable. However, there are a lot of other factors in doing it this way which could cause latency issues.
My understanding is that "VST system link" is a communication protocol, rather than an audio transmission. Otherwise I could set up my other PC and route 3 stereo channels through it using analogue connections with my existing set up.
21. I was reading about VST system link in the help file. They say that no actual audio is going down the SPDIF cable, it's just sharing the processing somehow? I suppose I won't know until I try it.
22. Lol, some amusing stories. I played a small pub with the Premature Ejaculators just before Christmas. It was supposed to be a big night, loads of people had turned out. We got 5 songs into a 17 song set. He had to re-start 2 of them because he forgot his words AND THEY'RE SO IMPORTANT!! After an attempt at the 6th song he kicks the mic stand over breaking my mic, lunged forward knocking 2 people's pints over, and then fell onto a settee at the side of the stage shouting "f*** it". That'll be the last Premature Ejaculators gig!
23. I'm guessing with the SPDIF connection there won't be any latency unless I get rediculous with my plugins?
24. Excellent, thanks for your help! My cable is on the way. I'll report back when I get stuck.
25. Great! That's what I thought. Now, this may seem stupid, but I searched for a spdif cable and found some for £3 and some for £30 and some of the connectors look a bit weird. I've never used one before so... what do I need to get?
