1. I use it as a VST plug-in quite a lot, but it totally sucks my processing power so sometimes I have to arse about bouncing down the bass track with the ampeg processed onto it, if you know what I mean. Does anyone else find this?
2.
The Space Station isn't actually a space station. It's the XP-100 Whammy Wah sadly. I bought it thinking it was a space station but for £50, who cares either way? I might get it repaired some time.
How did that happen? It's looking decidedly yellow!! I suggest you look up the "xp-1000" mod for this pedal, which will be loads more fun than a repair.
3. how much for the metal zone? Are you near Stoke?
4.
interesting box, can it do effects? the line6 seems very basic but would do what I want. how much space does it have?
It doesn't do effects, not sure of the memory capacity. It's very small in physical size. I tend to put it on "auto record" and just mark the occasional riff. I use it on average 30 minutes per day, and I only leave it plugged into the computer for 10 minutes while I copy the files etc. This gives you an idea of the amount of time it can record for, and the amount of time the battery lasts for. The Zoom H4 has always looked great to me, but I have a proper recording set up so this little line6 dealy is just what I need and nothing more.
5.
Vocal PA support only ? How big is this stage ? Will it accommodate a 7 piece band (inc. keyboard rig and 4 piece brass section) ? Thought this was a bigger place. Cheers, Nathan
Maybe i'm wrong about the PA as I have a vague memory of him trying to get a DI out of my amp. I doubt they'll have many mics for your brass section! It'd be best to try and get hold of the soundman before you leave for the gig to sort it out. You will be cramped on the stage, especially if there are other bands on filling it with gear. I could hardly move and we're a three piece.
6. I've been using a "line6 backtrack" which my girlfriend got me for christmas. I record all my ideas on it, either with a mic, or plugged in. Then once a week I put them onto the computer and listen to them all and cut out the good bits to show to others or work on myself. I'm not sure how much they are. I love it so much because the quality of the mic is simply amazing for the size of it.
7. Looking good. You need all gold knobs for your mixing desk now.
8. We played the Fiddlers Elbow twice near the start of last year. We were told we'd have to bring 15 people or we'd be charged!? But we knew in advance so just got plenty of mates in. That was the first gig. The 2nd gig we had already passed the test but and mates didn't want to make the journey again. There were around 15 people in there, which as small pubs go (played a lot of them!!) isn't too bad. I very much doubt you'd ever get any record execs in there. From what I remember the PA was OK for vocals, I don't think he mic'd anything else up. The soundman was friendly instead of the standard c***. We didn't share/borrow any backline. Anyway, it wasn't too hard to get to, the sound was great on stage (probably down to us more than him) we went down well, no hassle, back home for a victory smoke by 1am! (I did actually hit a fox on the way home which cause £1500 worth of damage to an A4 estate, but that's got nout to do with the venue)
9. No idea, it's what I read in the cubase help file!!
10.
Am I right in assuming the SPDIF method would only be a single stereo output so you'd be applying an effect to the whole song? I've never used any of my SPDIF connections before. Whereas the FX Teleport method would allow you to run different effects on different tracks of course. I only used it once but had no problems with latency over two machines joined with a crossover ethernet cable. However, there are a lot of other factors in doing it this way which could cause latency issues.
My understanding is that "VST system link" is a communication protocol, rather than an audio transmission. Otherwise I could set up my other PC and route 3 stereo channels through it using analogue connections with my existing set up.
11. I was reading about VST system link in the help file. They say that no actual audio is going down the SPDIF cable, it's just sharing the processing somehow? I suppose I won't know until I try it.
12. Lol, some amusing stories. I played a small pub with the Premature Ejaculators just before Christmas. It was supposed to be a big night, loads of people had turned out. We got 5 songs into a 17 song set. He had to re-start 2 of them because he forgot his words AND THEY'RE SO IMPORTANT!! After an attempt at the 6th song he kicks the mic stand over breaking my mic, lunged forward knocking 2 people's pints over, and then fell onto a settee at the side of the stage shouting "f*** it". That'll be the last Premature Ejaculators gig!
13. I'm guessing with the SPDIF connection there won't be any latency unless I get rediculous with my plugins?
14. Excellent, thanks for your help! My cable is on the way. I'll report back when I get stuck.
15. Great! That's what I thought. Now, this may seem stupid, but I searched for a spdif cable and found some for £3 and some for £30 and some of the connectors look a bit weird. I've never used one before so... what do I need to get?
16. My interfaces are M-Audio Delta 1010LTs which have "S/PDIF digital I/O" which I thought I could use for this application?
17. Has anyone ever used this? I want to set up 1 PC for FX processing, and the other as a master/mix console. Exactly what sort of cable do I buy? All the SPDIF cables around are so vastly different in price! I'm hoping to link two PCs with a Delta 1010LT in each. So... What do I do? Any advice?
18.
...... I might set up a merch area of the forum but need to discuss this with a programmer of some description......
You can post pictures and links in a forum post, so I would imagine you could put a paypal paynow button in a post on a sticky which is the easiest way of doing it. Just a thought. I would also like a shirt, but in a medium size.
19. This would have been quite useful for me while I was gigging. I thought about making something to do it, it wouldn't be that difficult just a chip and a switch per sample. Bank switching would be more complicated. I never got round to it though.
20. Trade sexual favours for the bongo?
21. Only dangerous for those of us who spend too much time bending over our boards!! You could make the flamethrower on a detachable 10m jack lead.
22.
That's the only reason that I can think to use it for. I mean, I don't understand what's so hard about reaching down to your guitar volume knob.
In the band i'm recording at the moment there's a guitarist who has a volume cut pedal and has had it for years. He bought it to "make the guitar quieter for some bits". He uses a boss multi-fx for his distortion sounds. In the 2 or 3 years he'd owned it, he had never realised the difference between putting it before or after his distortion, and this isn't a thick guy, it's just a guitarist. This is what we're dealing with! No wonder EH figure they can sell anything. To be fair though, I don't like playing with my knobs while i'm playing. Mainly because the kind of stuff i'm playing required constant attention from my right hand. Obviously the other reason is that it's at a set level instead of having to set it right with your hand each time.
23. Perhaps it would fit in a bag of some sort? I know people who have bags for Boss multi-effects which are around the same size. I wouldn't take it to gigs without a lid or a bag!! It looks really good though, nice one!
24.
Ah of course. I was trying to think what could go in a rack and be that shallow.
Only the front is facing that way. The gubbins section is rotated 90 degrees and fixed to the underside of the aluminium riser in the flight case which all the pedals are stuck to the top of.
25.
What's the long blue thing?
A Korg rack tuner.
