1. Sorry!!! A patch on a multi effects pedal is a set of stored settings - so, you find a sound you like using as many, or a little effects as you like. Then, you save the sound you have. When you have saved it, your sound is called a patch. You can save lots of patches, and switch between then. "stomp box mode" (on the boss, not the zoom) is a mode which allows you to use the multiple footswitches on the unit as seperate effects pedals/boxes, rather than using them to switch between "patches". The patch switching i.e. the time taken to switch from one patch to another is seamless on the Zoom, but (i've heard) poor on the boss. Am I making sense?
2. I heard that the patch switching is too slow on the boss, but it has a "stomp box mode" which means you have 4 or 5 pedals rather than switching between patches, so if you fancy that mode, get the boss.
3. Sounds cool Kev! I want one. The blue beaver came on Friday by the way - thanks!
4.
While I would love to be able to spend loads of money, I'm saving for my new Wal (or possibly GB Rumour now since playing EBS_Freak's at the weekend....!). This was initially triggered by the need to get a reasonable replacement Chorus pedal (EBS I hear you all shout!!), so money must stay in pocket, as I am generally not that into effects. I have however been offered a Zoom 708II for £40. It does appear to support looping as well as a bunch of other stuff, and while it isn't a £100+ pedal, it may just sow some seeds!! Any thoughts anyone?
I'd take that deal and get used to using effects. Then you'll have a better idea of what you want to upgrade to, and you might be able to sell the zoom for £40, but if not, it's only £40.

EQ pedals?

It's not programmable, but you could buy two of them. You might be getting close to the price of the boss programmable EQ then though so....

EQ pedals?

You could get a zoom B2.1U and set up a few different patches. You could get the Boss programmable EQ. I think if you cut all your lows and let the keys do the basslines, you'll get bored without some fun effects.
7. I have a TE 1 x 18", 1 x 10", tweeter cab. It's been broken over a year (I've just been too busy to fix it, there was a thread about it...) but it sounded amazing running with my Peavey combo. (and even better with a guitar 2 x 12" combo at the same time!!!)
8.
Unfortunately I rarely smile, am clean shaven and refuse to lose 6inches of my old chap for any band.
I was going by your avatar/personal experience (I suppose you were so p*ssed you don't remember our lovely evening).
9.
Why? What makes a good manager? I'm confident I can't do it, but I'd like to know what to look out for in others.
Cheeky grin, tidy stuble, fair sized cock - all a necessity.
10.
Thank you for the advice people. It seems that peoples experience has been negative. Interesting.
But the people with positive experience are famous and not posting on BC.
11. We had a manager for a while. It was a load of bullsh*t to be honest, so be careful because if you sign something then you're tied in for a time period.
12. It might be slightly less noisy. Do it and see if it's any better, it might not make any difference! Regarding your chain - I wouldn't change anything. I would try swapping the OD and chorus, but you've probably already done that. I would also try the volume pedal before the OD as you might like the tone of a slight volume cut before the OD without having to mess with your volume knob on the bass.
13.
erm.......volume.... apologies, it's stayed im my board from my last band where we had this overdriven into where each note faded in and out on bass. planning on using it again for something sameish with my newer band.
You could use it as a mute and take your tuner out of the chain - use the other chorus output for the tuner.
14. Grow a beard to go with your new cool image!! Seriously, I wish I had the money for a double bass AND lessons! Go for it.
15.
simple but does the job.
What do you use your volume pedal for?
16. I think it should be as soon as you are all together in person. If they ask why you didn't tell them sooner, just say you wanted to do it in person and this was the first opportunity.
17.
I didn't know you could do that.. At the risk of sounding stupid, is that different from using the master fader?
Well if all your channels are clipping, and you bring down the master fader, you still tend to get distortion from the individual channels before the master fader.
18. For a good punky pick tone, I like the digitech bass squeeze - but it might be a bit too "full on" for you.
19. Something I do way too often is linking every channel on my cubase mixer to bring every fader down at the same time.
20. Les Claypool - Primus Dirk Lance - Incubus Timmy C - RATM I'm trying really hard to think of some more "credible" (at least to you musos) bassists but these are the only guys who have excited me and retained my interest - a lot of that is down to having an original sound.
