dude, it could be twice as good as the deep impact, and it still wouldnt be worth that price
Really? To me, 2 x as good = 2 x the price! Not that I have the money to be saying it, but if it was twice as good as the deep impact, it would be worth twice the value to me.

Yeh I agree with pablo so.... Bass Balls, Octave, Compressor, Xciter -> Amp I wouldn't bother with the effects loop.

A bass player is too good when he sits there playing nothing saying "It's all about what you DON'T play man".

Everyone seems to presume that it will only be equal, or slightly better than the deep impact. Do we actually know?

I think that the definition of perfection is interesting. A sphere can be called a perfect sphere if it has no flaws. Arguably, music, or any other art form for that matter, has no flaws. Even if you think you hear a mistake, it could have been intended. Music is either always perfect, or always flawed - but then (a lot of) you say that you need flaws in music, perfect music isn't as good! So flawed music is perfect? So they're not flaws? So there's nothing wrong with being perfect? In the OP Bilbo, you liken Perfect to Clinical, when that's obviously not representative of your opinion. It's deffinitely possible for a player to get so obsessed with technical prowess that he forgets to "feel" the music. I see this more with drummers and guitarists than bassists. However, I don't indulge in watching the more technical bassists mentioned here.

The public wants covers and tribute bands. That's one reason why it's so difficult for an originals band to get anywhere. If it's what the public wants, I don't see a problem spending their money on it. If your argument is that public money should be spent in the interest of furthering culture (or however a clever person would put it) then I totally agree, but I think it's for my own selfish reasons rather than any noble ideas about society progressing.

We used to practice twice a week as a rule, for at least an hour, more often 2 hours. In the run up to gigs, especially important ones, we would practice for 1 hour every day. I think it made us extremely tight.
"Got one" what BBC?
I would say "rogering" but it might be considered offensive.
yeah, im quite a fan of reverb, and no i dont have time for one too much studying to do this year
Interesting. I think your reverb might disapear when playing in a band, which is why I asked. Are you using it to simulate a live room kind of sound, or is it a big long reverb, like an effect rather than a tone.

Interesting! I did use some tremelo before on my zoom pedal, but I was only using it on my high frequencies. I suppose on low notes it could be quite rythmic and entrancing! I should give it a go.

A whammy XP-100 would do your chorus, and almost get to a flange, would add wah to the set up, and would cover octave up AND octave down. He's probably not going to build one of those though!! I'm a bit stumped to be honest because i've always used phase and flange on my multi effects, and chorus on my whammy. Tee - I meant what kind of lines do you play with temolo on? As in would you use it in a verse that is quite upbeat? The thing is, as much as I like tremelo, I would only use it as an "effect" and only on high parts (I play a 6 string). I imagine that if I was playing a big fat groovy bassline with tremelo on, it'd really take away from the feel of it. I was wondering your thoughts?
Tom, I've just noticed with your avatar, cover one of the old man's right eye and he looks incredibly mild-mannered, cover his left eye and he looks incredibly angry.
I've never noticed that! Very true. I've no idea who he is, but he's a walking miracle! I'll post if I get a response from the band. If they don't e-mail, txt, or call me I think that's really rude.

Is tremolo something you use quite often Tee? For what kind of stuff?

I have played two audition type sessions with a rock band recently. They asked me to come back after the first week, so I did. This week they said "we'll let you know" which I find quite strange.... We were getting on quite well, I can play the stuff pretty easily, i've learned 3 or 4 songs with them and had no trouble keeping up after a few practises. I think I may have annoyed them by saying that it was quite easy to play (they go on about how technical and clever their music is). I'm not sure if I want to join anyway, but I certainly don't like waiting for a decision!

Reverb! Really? Do you play in a band Kev?

I would just put a metal footswitch in the existing pedal. Drill through the foot-plate thingy, stick your switch in, should be easy enough even if it looks crap.
-
Octave up or down, depending on your taste and whther or not it would count as seperate options. Flanger with very flexible controls so you can go from chorus to phaser type sounds. Digital Delay. You should also have a feedback blend option on it!
-
Can't you get a mini 2 octave keyboard?

I wouldn't let a cattle prod near my rig! I just spoke to him when I was alone and explained that when I forget something, or make a mistake, I carry on playing, staying in time, so that we don't look like tits. At worst, I will miss two beats and come back in again, but I would never start a section, let alone a song, because I f*ck a bit up. I explained how I have said the same to the bassist, and how the guitarist understands it anyway, and I think it made him feel obliged to get a bit more proffessional.
Nah, haven't. And it's not in the mind. In the first song, for example, the guitarist had the distortion he uses to do his solos turned up too loud, so when he stomped on it he was surprised at the volume increase and fluffed the beginning of the solo, causing him to drop out for the next four bars. He then came back in on the solo, but in the wrong key, which he didn't notice until a couple of wildly dissonant phrases, then dropped out again saying out loud 'nope, I've lost it', leaving me and the drums to finish the whole of the buildup into the final chorus. Which didn't build up too well. Most of the songs had a similar sort of gaffe at some point.
Ahhh, that's pretty bad. Almost as bad as your singer forgetting his songs and turning round to grab your drum sticks to stop the song because HE's so important! I had some strong words to our singer after that, just to say that while he may have pulled it off on that night, stopping songs mid way through takes the momentum out of a set, re-starting them is boring for the audience, and having the arrogance to stop your band will just rile them! Maybe you could convey a similar "just keep playing and make it sound right" message?
