Is that Roy Haynes?
I thought of that before Roy even came to me for lessons.

I've had 2 guitar stands and at least 5 decent planet waves leads nicked at gigs. Drummers have the worst of that sh*tty situation though.

Sorry, yeh, when I was talking about output and input, I should have been talking about send and return.
I don't think you noticed the wiff of sarcasm in that post...
Ahhhh, probably! heh.

You're probably right, ta! What does M2CW mean?

Aren't they made of plastic? I bet if you re-housed the one you have in metal and made sure there were no loose connections etc it would last forever.

Anyone know the difference between "slope" and "compression"?

I like the colours on that P!

I think with some bands it's always best to get them all playing at the same time. If it's just for a demo then it won't matter - it's just the "feel" of it that will change, if it's for commercial release, I would get the lazy f*cker in there! (sorry if he's recovering in hospital or something). RE Jake - It's surely not as clear cut as that? Some whole albums are recorded by highly rehearsed bands to a click, it's not going to make THAT much difference, althought I agree in principle I would want the singer there.
Find something useful to do during songs where the bass doesn't come in till halfway through. For example, tidy out your gig bag, write out the set list for the next gig, clear out all those old receipts from your wallet, practice the riff for the next song. If the guitarist forgets his lead, explain that bass leads are wired with extra low impedance and aren't suitable for use with guitars. If the guitarist starts to play a song in the wrong key, never ever attempt to transpose the bass line in your head. If you get it wrong people will assume it's your fault. The correct procedure is to stop playing, wave your arms above your head and shout "What the f*ck are you doing" as loudly as possible.
I would say that if your guitarist is prone to that mistake, learn to transpose your lines! You make the whole band look sh*t by stopping a song once it's started. It doesn't matter who's fault it is, you all look as stupid as each other.

It depends how well you are rehearsed. In my band, the drummer would play on his own, then I would play to that, then the guitarist to that, and put vocals on last.
Well, being the only American here that I know of..........It is now time for me to speak. As for talkbass, I do not belong to a single club. I implore the thought of clubs, societies, fraternites and such because they drive wedges between people, or at least some of them. I do post at their site on occasion, although as for American sites I prefer activebass and worshipbass. The average person in the streets being aloof and distant......you must have been visiting a larger city or metrpolitian area where people are suspicious of everyone else due to the crime problem, and for many that's how the original cultures they came from were like that. As for Serbs....the only one I have met was one hot babe. She was gorgeous. I have nothing against Serbs, except those who have committed atrocities. 95 % of all Americans travel outside their state annually I live in an area where three states meet and it is not unusual for me to be in at least 2 of the 3 if not all 3 every weekend. I have been to Canada, Mexico, The Grand Caymans, Beileze. I have also been to all of the states except six, and I plan on seeing them before I die. I have been to Alaska, but haven't made it to Hawaii yet. Americans love to travel and run up the credit card while they do. Yes I own guns. It is legal here. Just target shooting .22s and one other. I used to shoot competition before my eyes needed bifocul glasses. If someone breaks in my house intent on doing us harm, he is in for trouble. If you have to depend on the police to get there within 20 or 30 minutes, it could be too late for you and your family. I will not go down quietly. I have no machine guns and have no interest in owning one. I may not agree with my neighbors from the British Isles on everything, but the ones I have met personally and here as well seem to be very hard working and honest people. Very friendly and willing to chat on about everything, and very intelligent. I hope to make it there and see the sights and meet some of you someday. Bassists are almost always the organizers and level headed of the band clan. Strange? Yes, but no worse than others. Kindest regards, Doug
A nice level headed and articulate post Doug! I can't help but imagine it said with an English accent though. Maybe if you put a few more capitals and exclaimation marks in there I would start to beleive your nationality!

I use guitar pedals with bass. I think it's generally accepted that you will loose low end and some definition doing this with most guitar pedals, and that mixing the effected signal with a dry signal will help reduce this (this is what I do).
-
I think the chords thing will be the same for most octave pedals. Apparently the EH POG does it, but I remain sceptical until I try it. Otherwise you need a midi pup and etc.
Or you can get an old computer or laptop and install Ubuntu Studio Linux in it, no latency problems and all the free software in the world. Oh did I forget to mention free ASIO and free software?
You can do this with crappy onboard soundcards? Interesting!!!!
-
If you make lots of pedal changes, practice them at rehersal, and wear appropriate shoes, and wear the same shoes you practice in for your gigs!
-
I use my OC-2 for horrible glitchy 2 octave down sounds. I use my digiteh XP-100 for octave down sounds. It tracks very well, and has quite a nice tone. The standard digitech whammy has a crap tone though IMO.

Solder a wire to the output jack on the hot connection (not ground) - the other end of the wire to input of volume pot, output of volume pot soldered to the connection on the input jack. (I think? Maybe you need a diode in there somewhere, it wouldn't be hard to find a guide on the net)

I think MB1 has the ashdown one. What filters/followers have you tried? I think that a lot of these funk type pedals need a bit of overdrive or sometimes fuzz to get the most out of them, so to avoid needing another pedal you really have to try everything.
-
Kev - Deffinitely, I managed to get some cool sweeps out of it, but anything fast just sounded stupid. Put it in a feedback loop and..... Oh dear. I have a boss AW-3. It does do some cool sounds, some funky, but it's a bit useless for me without the expression pedal - which is not something you want in an auto-wah/follower.
-
Before I bought an interface, I used to record to a click, listening to the click, and what I was playing. Then when I had recorded, I would line up the track with the click. This worked fine for writing songs with the band for at least 2 years. We managed to use Reason for drums, record guitars, bass, vocals etc. All it takes is a little nudge to get them in time.
-
Heh, yeh, rooms do tend to provide reverb! I know this will sound a bit silly, but the best, most squelchy funky auto wah sound I have is in an Aria auto wah. I tried it in the shop before I bought it because I assumed it would kill all of the bass tone - because it's a guitar pedal - but nope! Very funky sound. I don't know about synth sounds. I really want a synth pedal - the boss one looked cool, but I don't have the cash. The "synth" sounds on the B2.1U are either sh*t or I can't figure out how to work them.

I thought there was a peavey 1516 on here for sale somewhere? I have a TE 1 x 18" 1 x 10" and tweeter with built in crossover. It sounds very good but it's been broken for ages now because I can't get the speaker out of the cab and lost motivation when the band stopped gigging.
