I think you are totally missing the point. I mean TOTALLY! Alex
In what way? What point is that?

He was doing fuzzy bass with piano and making it sound heavy before Muse!

Obviously each bassist will have their own sound, and their own idea of how to get there. I am a little worried by the sheer amount of people who like to have just one sound i.e their bass, their amp, and maybe 1 pedal or something. This - "I change my tone using my fingers/pickdynamics/left hand etc" is what the audience couldn't give a sh*t about, they'll never hear any difference. They will notice a different if you have two drastically different EQ pedals, or a monstrous fuzz tone, or an octave pedal etc etc. I think that bassists need to get more inventive with their sound or risk being replaced by keyboard players (apart from pub-covers bands obviously)

Can you turn 0s and 1s into cold beer? I'm in dire need.
I find that the perfect sound is just over the horizon.....
Well that's because of the wave-length of bass frequencies.

apparently the FX25s are better than the B equivalent.
And I also like to justify the sh*t gear that I use.
I'm using sh*t/cheap gear, and my sound still makes a big difference to the audience's experience. It's not just for my benefit! Buy a PEs album BBC! I need celebrity endorsement.
could you not just unwind a cm or two of the wire wrap on the strings, and just feed the core through the tuner? or have i missed something?
I thought that if I did that then the whole string might just unwind itself. Is that stupid?

For the price of a DI and a soundcard you could get an M-Audio delta 44.
well as i said everyone else seems to have had no problems, so it probably was one arsehole and he probably has quit, just trying to remember the name of the guy...
You should have saved all your e-mails! (and proof of postage! )
Only YOU really care about the subtleties of bass tone. The audience/listener couldn't really give a sh*t.
They may not give a sh*t, but they may well be able to tell subconsciously or something....... My point being, I and quite a few bassists will use effects and their "tone" to try and fill the gap in frequency content of their 3 piece band, compared to a 4 piece. Take their sound away and you have 1 clean bass, 1 guitar, and it all sounds miles thinner. Loads of music-lamens have complimented me on my bass sound over the years.

That's fair enough Kev, but look at it from their point of view. Someone asks to return a pedal, so they say OK. Then that someone rings up asking for their money back even though they haven't received the pedal (as far as hotrox know). Hotrox ask for proof of delivery thinking "this will prove if it's genuine or not", then you say "I lost it" and they think "hmmm, smells of a scam to me, we don't want to set an example else all his mates will be scamming us". To be honest, if it was me at hotrox you would have had your money back, but it all depends on the individual dealing with your case. You might have had the one arsehole who worked there and has now quit - you never know!
-
I doubt they would want to make £50 at the expense of a potential customer Kev. £50 is nothing. I think you've probably got the wrong impression. Lesson learned!
he's too busy with his scout group
I bet he is! What a pervert.

All I know is, If I plug my bass straight into my amp, the sound is a bit crap. If I plug it into my pedal board (about 20 buffered pedals) then it sounds great.
It has two separate headphone mixes and the pre amps are superior to the M-Audio delta 1010lt. The Saffire also takes some of the processing out of the computer so it is less likely to crash or overload. However i still dont think i can persuade you. They cost a little bit more but the quality of the pre amps and the Saffire control make it a bit more versatile and give you a few more signal options.
I suppose it depends on how you weight your decision making. I like to record lots of simultaneous tracks, so the 1010lt and a half decent mixer/rack of pres/whatever would give me 8 mic inputs on some good, and some average pres. The saffire would give me 2 decent pres and take a bit of the load off my CPU. If I was a drum machine kind of guy, and was recording in my bedroom, then the saffire would be the best bet.
-
What pedals are you talking about? They don't sound like true bypass pedals to me.
-
no idea about the hyperpak but I would try the LS-2 blending the multicomp and clean, the output going into the LMB-3. The enhance is sh*t yeh. If you get it set right, you should hardly be able to tell it's on except for the fact that you'll be louder on average and there will be no "spikes".
I would simply just get a focusrite saffire which has a lot of goodies and control included in the box.
Heh
Focusrite Saffire Firewire Audio Interface With DSP
What's this, and audio interface with built in DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING?!?!? Now that's a cut above the rest! To be fair, I don't think i would spend that much money on an interface with a max of 4 inputs. There's no lightpipe input or anything like that. Like I was saying before the M-Audio delta 1010lt has two mic inputs (same as the saffire) as well as another 6 analogue inputs and you can get it for half the price of the saffire. I know the pre-amps will be nicer, but when you are limited like that...... Maybe there's something I missed that would pursuade me?
Hey man, When starting out simplicity is gonna be best. Having external mixers and sound cards (two expenses) plus the cost of cabling it all up (ts not cheap) is a lot. I would go for something like: http://www.dv247.com/invt/22278/product.ht...vxIcg_a_3d_a_3d Which is compatable with pro tools and is upgradable to 16 microphone inputs at once! It also just so happens that I have one for sale for £170 which is very good money for the amount of i/o you will get. Garry
Good suggestion Garry! I suppose it depends on your budget.

higher threshold and a higher ratio should be more subtle, like a limiter. I suppose it depends how high you mean by "high threshold" but if you set it to 1:infinity with the threshold so high that it only compresses the peaks, you can get a great sound. I like compression blended with clean, running into a limiter.

PM me your address and i'll see what I can find at the weekend.

The firewire macki dealy looks great to me! If you get adventurous with your mixing and etc on cubase, then you'll need a decent audio interface to be able to cope with it. You could get an M-Audio PCI card quite cheap used. If you get a Delta 44 you could DI your amp straight in, but you would need to buy pre-amps for when you want to record mics. These could be in a little cheap mixer though. The Delta 1010 has 2 mic inputs in XLR but is about twice the price (around £120). If you fancy some nice outboard hardware though, one of those firewire/usb mixer/interface thingies will do the job. I wouldn't get the peavey, the USB port is just a gimmick IMHO.

Hah! It was a joke, 'aint no shame in it. Some of the stuff on the album is a bit stonery actually, and live we're much heavier! No gigs at the moment 'cos our singer's gone on holiday
