Indeed. I've never liked big muffs that much really. I'd like to try a little one, 'cos they're small enough to go on my board, but not really buying effects atm
iv not used a little big muff, so maybe this is a problem, but i use a stingray with my old skool sovtek muff, works fine at full volume and nearly full gain, surely the stingray with slight bass boost is a hotter signal as any?
Try it with a new standard american one on full gain and you'll see what I mean.

What does the discombobulator do? If you bought a small tuner that would fit ontop of the psu, you might be able to squeeze an exp pedal on there for the boss wah - I love the range of possibilities this gives you.
-
There will be a volume drop with the big muff if the input is too hot and/or if you have the gain set too high. I suppose it's more of a "perceived volume drop". I'm not sure specifically why this is, but I have had the same problem with my guitarist's big muff. He solved it by realising that it sounds better, and it levels out the volume drop, when you turn down the gain. I'm sure someone has a better explaination/solution? There are no tubes in a little big muff!

Our Drummer's just quit!! Wonderful timing as usual

I'll play the drums for anyone! (I am sh*t). -
I'm almost exactly the same as The Funk on this. I sit down with my guitar, or my bass, or at my drums (have a fat smoke) and play away. When I play something and i'm blown away, I record it on my phone. Around 30% of the stuff I record, I would actually use when i'm sober, the rest gets deleted as sh*t. I also "dream" around 5% of the stuff I write. This can be day-dreaming, but also more interestingly, REAL dreaming. This stuff is far more likely to be good - i.e I would use 100% rather than 30% of the stuff I record from day/dreams.

I think that every member in a band will always expect the same level of commitment from every other member, and so it can get really quite frustrating when the reality of the matter (everyone does things for their own reasons) hits you in the face. Our drummer left recently, and while it left me feeling angry and depressed - as though I had wasted too much of my time effort and money on a band that would eventually lead no-where - I realised at the same time that he had been committed enough to spend time money and effort on the band, and that his level of commitment was breached at a certain point due to outside circumstances - and that could happen to any one of us. So, yeh, it's an awful situation, but I don't think blaming the guy is the right and/or most sensible thing to do. -

I think a lot of bassists tend to be happy with one constant sound. That's cool for some, but I prefer to have variety. My bass tone contributes as much to the "arrangement" of a song as the dynamic feel, key, or tempo of an individual section i.e for a standard rock song I might have a mid boost for an intro riff, and then turn that pedal off so as not to crowd the vocal in the verse, then turn on some overdrive for the pre-chorus, and on top of that some bass boost for the chorus. It's what you'd do in the studio, so I don't get why you wouldn't want to do it live.
-
Yeh I was talking to the OP!
-
I would play with the odb-3 until you can get a good sound. Turn the gain down and the bass up!
-
I like to go and "jam" with my girlfriend, but I wouldn't want to be in a band that takes gigs and money etc seriously. It'd stress me out.

If you have more amp volume, you may feel like you have to play less hard, and that makes it easier to play - fair enough. However, I don't understand why people claim that this will yeild better tone, and is better technique in general. I like to play through overdrive which means that when I really dig in, I get rewarded by more dirt. Isn't this good technique? I like the sound of hard playing.
i'm tired of hearing cooling fans !! my soundtech power amp has noisy fans, i admit it...but they're not noticeable when you're playing live, but at home they drive me mad after about 30 mins. so at the moment i'm running my pre-amp into the effects return of my trace elliot head, as it's quieter... but it's still driving me mad i'm actually thinking of getting a cheap low-wattage power amp that uses passive cooling at home just for some peace and quiet. anyone else feel like this ? sorry for ranting !
You should be able to put a switch in to turn off the fan for home practice. I doubt this would do much damage, but i'm no expert!
Some people think that old school looks are the only look for their kind of band. Others don't like the old school look, and prefer natural wood, no scratchplate, small tuner heads etc. It's cheaper to think and then buy than to buy and then think.
Some people don't give a sh*t what their bass looks like. I bought a 4 string bass because it's what I thought I was supposed to do. I got bored really quickly and bought a 6 string. Admittedly I had been playing guitar for 8 years, but I found that the 6 string was much more of a challenege and interesting to play etc.

I have the same kind of thing - I went to see some osteopaths for a bit but they didn't acheive much other than educating me. I think it's my whole right side, I always have pain running from my head down through my shoulder, and my right wrist and hand also get really painful and occasionally cramp up/go numb. EDIT: It wasn't supposed to be a whinge - does anyone know who I should see in the stoke/staffs area?
-
Well, I have been popping my blisters from drumming, and they all seem to form callouses. When I don't pop them, I get a big callous that "rips" off in less than a week.

I can't find a for sale thread for your T-max. PM me?

I love the sound of my rig on a big hollow wooden stage - drums too! -
I think you should make it clear to the organisers who/what you are - if they still want you, then you're the band they're looking for, and you should go and play for them! (IMHO)

Possibly dodgy seller advice please!

Hah, I can't beleive your name's Rog! I spose I would have noticed had I looked at your sig. Congrats on a fiendish name Queeny! Welcome to your lady friend. His feedback looks OK to me, but I don't buy much on Ebay. I would go ahead, but then I tend to make rash decisions. Umm, or Ahhh. -
You can find some good circuits on the net. You can also get beginner kits to build your own pedals without the design hassle. I thought you had decided distortion pedals weren't for you? You could build one of DHA's kits?
well...i'm finally getting back into doing a bit of home recording and fired up cubase for the first time in ages the other day. it didn't all come flooding back, more of a trickle, but i did get done what i wanted to. just wondering though if theres any good books, forums, websites, resources that i should know about, particularly regarding EQing and mixing to get that 'full' polished kinda sound rather than slightly weedy home studio sound.... thanks in advance c
sound on sound has good tips. The best thing IMHO is to just play around and listen. You should get a good selection of plug-ins to play with. That "polished" sound often comes in the mastering stage - are you happy with your mixes but they just don't stand up to other CDs? Get some raw data, upload it and post in the "free track mixing" thread in off topic. Then we (or just me :-/ ) can mess with it, and when you like what we've done, can explain it all to you!

The jazz deluxe looks a like the body has been squashed in the vertical slightly. I really like it. Is this a trick of the eye/camera/monitor or can I buy a jazz that looks like this?
