1. J has pulled away again, never loosing pole position and now with a stonking 5 point lead!
2.
i'm sure i've seen another thread about people who turn up to gigs without their own gear! as bad, if not worse than bass snobs IMO!
Yes, I agree. I'm talking about a hypothetical situation, e.g it was the biggest gig of your life so you had to play even though your house full of vintage precisions just blew up.
3. The J has started with a promising lead but the P is starting to nip at the J's tail with only one vote between them. Should there be a finish line?
4.
Reckoning a battle of the basses should be a new thread
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=18669
5. I don't really like Fenders, but I thought this would be a laugh. There's no happy mediums here, I won't add "other" to the poll. If you don't want to vote you don't have to. Let's have it out!
6.
I could not give a baboon's arse what people think about my choice of basses - if you still think it's crap after you've heard me play it - then we can discuss it! Jon.
I'm the same about my pedal board. I get so many moans before i've played through it. "that's a sound man's nightmare!" etc.
7. What if for sale threads were editable by the seller, so if someone made a post that they thought could effect the sale, the seller could edit/remove it? It's their sale, their thread, PM them if you think they should change the price and you want to help them.
8. Wow, that's an amazing deal! Not dealt with them though.
9. I think the best question would have been to ask: "what bass would you want to turn down if you were stuck at a gig without a bass and needed to borrow". I personally wouldn't turn down any bass I was offered. Would you turn down anything but a fender?
10. Do you have a computer? If it's just for home use you can get some great usb interfaces that come with amplitube and things like that.
11. Is it for gigging? The B1X feels a bit fragile for that. I've not tried the Korg.
12.
I might have to have a look at the ME-50B then. However I also play 8-string which in theory should be a far easier instrument to mimic using effects, but I still haven't come across one that would be an acceptable substitute to the real thing, so not holding out too much hope for the de-fretter...
Yeh, to be fair I was being too general. There is a need for fretless and 8 strings/12 string guitars. You can get a variax or a midi pickup and could probably get a good 8 string sound out of it.
13.
The EBS is a dynamic envelope follower yes, but I wouldn't put it before anything. I like my filters after gain so you get the big squelchy synth sound Also, I'm pretty sure that making a TB loop to stop tone sucking WILL NOT allow trails to come through...
I like filters after a bit of dirt too, but I have the choice of before AND after. Obviously the pedal is designed to respond to your dynamics, and you loose a lot of your dynamics if you apply distortion. I wasn't talking about a standard TB loop. It could be a TB loop where the output of the pedal is always connected, and the footswitch just turns the input on and off. For example, I use an AB switch to switch between two loops, but I use (don't laugh) a double headphone adaptor to merge back the two loops, so that i'm only switching the inputs, and I get my trails. I was actually thinking of a little timer circuit on a 2 footswitch 1 loop pedal. I might draw it up, but I probably haven't got time.
14.
can't beleive how many pedals some of you guys use, you have more than my guitarist and i thought he had too many only just bought my first pedal (compressor) and cant think of much else i'd need, well apart from a bit of distortion and maybe some chorus (used to have one) and maybe a decent octaver
and a digital delay, and you can't just have one distortion, you need an OD AND a fuzz and a wah, and a synth pedal and...... unlucky.
15.
if you have a fixed IP address, you can run one at home.
How much would it cost for that kind of bandwith though? It'd be cheaper to get a dedicated server surely? http://www.zen.co.uk/hosting/ I don't have a dedicated server, but I have a virtual server running 7 sites, 5 of which are shopping carts, no issues at all an they'll really try and help you out as well if you have any problems. I find 123-reg/pipex a bit of a bitch to deal with regarding tech support. Zen hosting (sorry, I said myzen before 'cos that's my subdomain thing) always answer the phone, 123-reg always have me on hold to a computer for 15 minutes.
16.
You have a de- and re-fretting pedal? Cool! Where can I get one? ;-)
I have a big magic pedal cavern located just between my arse cheeks. Come round and you can have a look!
17. I find it funny that people take more than one guitar to gigs. I have pedals for that kind of thing.
18. For browsing sites at work, when they're blocked by your server: http://proxy.org/proxies_sorted.shtml
19. Is the EBS IQ a dynamic envelope follower? You should have that first if so IMHO Do you not have the DD20 in a loop because of the way the delay decays when you turn off a patch (I don't know if it does this)? I bet someone could design you a box to put it in a loop so it wont suck your tone until it's on, but when you switch the loop off you still get the decay at the end.
20.
Lol.. I have gotten used to a diet of bread and water over the years ;o)
No cheese? Oh the poverty. I'd have some sympathy, but then my rig is far too cheap and noisy compared to yours...
21. Have you tried Myzen hosting?
22. Give me some money Dood!
boss ceb3 hate it dont like it sounds artificial but i need chorus so until i can afford something it will have to stay
I really like the chorus on digitech's whammies, and you could do with an octaver
23. How much is it for more bandwith? how much do you get in donations? If BC is broke you should make it clear and people will donate no problem (I think!).
24. just got this again for about 5 minutes.
25.
I would tend to agree with that, in as much as I hate music that is written to showcase a bassist's skills. The Jaco album, to me, is dull at best. Hejira, on the other hand, is a work of art. For the most part, I prefer music where I'm aware of the song first and foremost and forget about listening to the musicians.
+1 totally, I love his playing with Joni, but that's 'cos I love Joni! I had heard of him before I played bass, but my mother used to love weather report and joni mitchell and I thought I was a genius for figuring out it was the same guy playing the bass (by listening, not reading the cover).
