1. Only one effect to play with at home? Deffinitely digital delay - My marshall echohead would do the trick, but something like a DD20 or DL4 would be more fun. Only one effect to gig with? I suppose it depends what i'm playing. I really can't live without overdrive, but then I can't live without digital delay! I'll just build them into my bass and then I won't need any pedals

Yeh, my ODB-3 is Fizzy if I have the gain right up, or the mix right up, or the highs right up - but then it sounds sh*t so why would I do that? You can get some monstrous overdrive tones out of it.

Zoom b9.1ut

I'm going to wait for the price to drop, but hopefully I'll get one of these, just to see if it can match my current pedal board.
4. I reckon most bassists need a limiter anyway, so just put that after your VT2 and your cool.
5.
Here's the type with isolated switch: http://uk.farnell.com/1217020/connectors/p...equestid=107336
Excellent, thanks! Burpster - It's a gorgeous bass, very very nice to play and sounds quite cool. I'll take your advice if I can't find anything once I know the model number.
6. Oh, I see, so that the battery isn't drained when the bass isn't plugged in?I hadn't thought about it. I'll have to check this, I don't have the bass at the moment. Anyone know what the standard is for an Aria ProII? I realise it's not very specific, but it's late 80s I think, all black with gold writing on the headstock. Actually, that's just stupid, i'll post again when I have the model number and checked the jack socket. Thanks for the continuing help
7. Yeh, the jack socket's a bit weird on this one, it's a rectangular black plastic box thing. It won't matter if I put in a normal socket will it? I assume the plastic isn't shielding or anything.
8.
I havent tried it, and I have heard good things about it. It also has the 5th^/Oct^ setting, for those who don't want to shell out for the Bass Whammy. But I;ve heard stories of the Bass overdriving the unit, as it has an input gain knob that can be very fiddly to tweak. I wanted no nonsense operation so I sprang for the WH-1. Just plug in, choose your setting, and sweep away
Yeh, the gain pot is a bitch to get right!
9. Seeing as you will get the tightest low end from your DI, you won't need the extended lower responce of a d112. I would get a standard 57 or 57 clone for your amp.
10. I haven't been able to try a WH-1, have you tried an XP-100 Higgie? I think it has a nice long sweep range and a much nicer tone than the WH-4.
11.
It could well be the jack socket. Most basses use the ring contact of a Ring/Tip/Sleeve jack socket to ground one side of the battery. If this contact has lost its tension, is worn, displaced or just plain dirty then there could be an intermittent or high resistance contact causing low or zero volts to the onboard electronics. This would become noticeable as the battery volts drop.
I see! Ok, i'll replace it, thanks
12. In my other band, the bassist has quite a nice aria pro II 4 string. His bass randomly cuts out sometimes especially when you jiggle the jack lead going into it. I figured it must be the socket, but check and couldn't see anything. I told him to take it to a music shop, but then suggested he make sure it's not the battery first. I don't know why I suggested this, 'cos it seems to me an illogical idea - but it worked when he put a new battery in. Can anyone explain this? Is his bass a bit knackered or what? the old battery wasn't totally dead, but was on the way out.
13. Try them and see! I have a whammy 'cos I wanted the chorus and octave up functions on it and nothing else, and I only paid £80.
14. Actually, one other time I completely cut out at a gig. The cable from my bass to my board had been cut in half by something?!? (planet waves) but I spent about 3 minutes checking my board and amp cables before realising it! I hate looking a d*ck on stage.
15.
ok after last night and my whole pedal boardd going down.....
That sounds like a nightmare! However (haven't seen your board?) I gig with a very messy board with over 20 pedals of which I think 1 is true bypass. I've only ever had problems once, and that was when my old plastic Zoom pedal f*cked up. Maybe you just need to make sure all your connections are secure etc?

Hi
I prefer the term "surprise sex".
Nice phrase, but how do you get a verb out of that? I'm going to "sexsurprise" you in a back alley? I "surprise-sexed" yo' momma? By the way - welcome Galilee!
17.
They're the things I'm talking about. You need a small screwdriver to get the flap up - and it's not so easy to do that when the surplus has been cut off flush with the little boxy bit. Plus the times when I have to take cable ties off are normally when working on a motorcycle outside in the cold and rain, so I couldn't be arsed messing around with little flappy things when I can stick the screwdriver through the loop and turn and it'll be off in under a second.
Right, yeh, I guess I hadn't considered the practicalities of actually undoing them when they're hard to get at. It is a bit fiddly!
18. I would either get the tribute guy to sing originals or you could learn to sing.

Hi
Hello mate, where in Kent are you?
Don't tell him, he'll rape you!
20. Seriously, are we talking about the same thing? See the plastic flappy thing that holds it in place when tight? You just lift that up and you can undo it. You must be talking about something else I guess.
21. All the cable ties i've come into contact with have a little plastic "flappy thing" which you just lift up so you can undo the cable tie.
22. A bump for this great rig. Only 3 hours left on Ebay. Can someone start bidding to get it up to a respectable price? If it stays low, i'll bid, then i'll be out of pocket, and if it's low enough for me to bid, then poor umcoo will be out of pocket!! Help him sell it for a decent price, and help me keep hold of my cash

With only two possibilities to try, it really would be quicker to just set them up, and listen to the differences when you swap them around. Use the order that sounds best to your ears in your opinion.
24. It seems weird to want c# AND d#, why not a# and c#? with the c# string you wont need the open d# (IMHO etc).
25.
Blimey.... a pedal for every different tone.... I would then be having lesson's from Fred Astaire .. Instead of a Bass tutor.... Garry
Or 1 multi effects pedal storing every different tone. I'm not saying you can't choose different tones from different playing styles. I play with my fingers, a thumb pick, my thumb and my nails - but I still gig with 20 odd pedals. It might be a bit extreme, but say you have a chorus where you want loads of low end or the like. You can start playing closer to the neck, and play with your fingers etc etc, but you may not have the tone you actually want until you boost the bass on your on-board pre. To do that you have to move like superman, or miss some notes, so get an EQ pedal instead. It makes sense to me anyway.
