Solid state all the way baby, pearce BC1 preamp. i've just got an animato it's quite a sexy distortion, i'd read somewhere that it was sh*t and on other places that it was good - but i love the tone of it. the tone knob NEEDS to be all the way to the left, otherwise you go into bass loss-playing through a radio-central.
Either way you still have a slightly overdriven sound all the time, which isn't very useful for some people. The ODB-3 does this sound really well for those who need to switch it on and off. That was my point. Anyway - sweet, i've always wanted to try an animato! What would you compare it to? Maybe it'd sound better with a clean blend, so that you can play with the tone knob.
3.
When mixing, you start with the overhead sound, and bring in everything else on the kit bit by bit. Crap overhead sound? Crap kit sound on mixdown.
That's great advice! Lots of students tend to think that overheads are close mics for the crashes.

try blending some OD on your Zoom with horribly highs, with the ODB-3 set to brutal lows. If you have an ls-2 or something that is. That's what I do!
5. Is this the one that can plug into your PC and control your DAW?
6. You can use a proxy site to get around work's filters. http://proxy.org/proxies_sorted.shtml
7. 24 minutes! Nice work Muppet. I need to work faster
8. the B2 is limited in that it only has 2 footswitches. I don't think it's difficult to program, but if you use a lot of different sounds you could find it takes a while, and you have to work out where your patches are going in relation to song changes and stuff.
9. I was about to bump this! I'm not sure now though, I have to get my girlfriend to figure out if she's working or not, if not I may have to go to france instead!
i found the odb-3 was a bag of poo, the only good tones i could get from it were slightly aggressive very low gain ones - which is usually how i set up my clean sound anyway so it was useless. same with the people i've seen use it live, it's either been terrible or i've thought "you should set up your clean sound to how your odb-3 sounds and get a mega evil distortion" oh well ey? everyone's tastes are different i guess.
I like to have lots of options. I suppose if you like to have 1 distortion pedal for all your settings, and you keep bending over to change the knobs, then the ODB-3 would be a bag of poo. I however, use it as a low gain agrressive overdrive with almost extreme levels of low end boost. I blend this with other distortions if I want more gain/fuzz. I'm guessing you have a tube amp which you can set to overdrive? Not everyone can do this, and I certainly wouldn't want to.
11. Only one effect to play with at home? Deffinitely digital delay - My marshall echohead would do the trick, but something like a DD20 or DL4 would be more fun. Only one effect to gig with? I suppose it depends what i'm playing. I really can't live without overdrive, but then I can't live without digital delay! I'll just build them into my bass and then I won't need any pedals

Yeh, my ODB-3 is Fizzy if I have the gain right up, or the mix right up, or the highs right up - but then it sounds sh*t so why would I do that? You can get some monstrous overdrive tones out of it.

Zoom b9.1ut

I'm going to wait for the price to drop, but hopefully I'll get one of these, just to see if it can match my current pedal board.
14. I reckon most bassists need a limiter anyway, so just put that after your VT2 and your cool.
15.
Here's the type with isolated switch: http://uk.farnell.com/1217020/connectors/p...equestid=107336
Excellent, thanks! Burpster - It's a gorgeous bass, very very nice to play and sounds quite cool. I'll take your advice if I can't find anything once I know the model number.
16. Oh, I see, so that the battery isn't drained when the bass isn't plugged in?I hadn't thought about it. I'll have to check this, I don't have the bass at the moment. Anyone know what the standard is for an Aria ProII? I realise it's not very specific, but it's late 80s I think, all black with gold writing on the headstock. Actually, that's just stupid, i'll post again when I have the model number and checked the jack socket. Thanks for the continuing help
17. Yeh, the jack socket's a bit weird on this one, it's a rectangular black plastic box thing. It won't matter if I put in a normal socket will it? I assume the plastic isn't shielding or anything.
18.
I havent tried it, and I have heard good things about it. It also has the 5th^/Oct^ setting, for those who don't want to shell out for the Bass Whammy. But I;ve heard stories of the Bass overdriving the unit, as it has an input gain knob that can be very fiddly to tweak. I wanted no nonsense operation so I sprang for the WH-1. Just plug in, choose your setting, and sweep away
Yeh, the gain pot is a bitch to get right!
19. Seeing as you will get the tightest low end from your DI, you won't need the extended lower responce of a d112. I would get a standard 57 or 57 clone for your amp.
20. I haven't been able to try a WH-1, have you tried an XP-100 Higgie? I think it has a nice long sweep range and a much nicer tone than the WH-4.
21.
It could well be the jack socket. Most basses use the ring contact of a Ring/Tip/Sleeve jack socket to ground one side of the battery. If this contact has lost its tension, is worn, displaced or just plain dirty then there could be an intermittent or high resistance contact causing low or zero volts to the onboard electronics. This would become noticeable as the battery volts drop.
I see! Ok, i'll replace it, thanks
22. In my other band, the bassist has quite a nice aria pro II 4 string. His bass randomly cuts out sometimes especially when you jiggle the jack lead going into it. I figured it must be the socket, but check and couldn't see anything. I told him to take it to a music shop, but then suggested he make sure it's not the battery first. I don't know why I suggested this, 'cos it seems to me an illogical idea - but it worked when he put a new battery in. Can anyone explain this? Is his bass a bit knackered or what? the old battery wasn't totally dead, but was on the way out.
23. Try them and see! I have a whammy 'cos I wanted the chorus and octave up functions on it and nothing else, and I only paid £80.
24. Actually, one other time I completely cut out at a gig. The cable from my bass to my board had been cut in half by something?!? (planet waves) but I spent about 3 minutes checking my board and amp cables before realising it! I hate looking a d*ck on stage.
25.
ok after last night and my whole pedal boardd going down.....
That sounds like a nightmare! However (haven't seen your board?) I gig with a very messy board with over 20 pedals of which I think 1 is true bypass. I've only ever had problems once, and that was when my old plastic Zoom pedal f*cked up. Maybe you just need to make sure all your connections are secure etc?
