Hi
I prefer the term "surprise sex".
Nice phrase, but how do you get a verb out of that? I'm going to "sexsurprise" you in a back alley? I "surprise-sexed" yo' momma? By the way - welcome Galilee!
  2.
They're the things I'm talking about. You need a small screwdriver to get the flap up - and it's not so easy to do that when the surplus has been cut off flush with the little boxy bit. Plus the times when I have to take cable ties off are normally when working on a motorcycle outside in the cold and rain, so I couldn't be arsed messing around with little flappy things when I can stick the screwdriver through the loop and turn and it'll be off in under a second.
Right, yeh, I guess I hadn't considered the practicalities of actually undoing them when they're hard to get at. It is a bit fiddly!
  3. I would either get the tribute guy to sing originals or you could learn to sing.

    Hi
Hello mate, where in Kent are you?
Don't tell him, he'll rape you!
  5. Seriously, are we talking about the same thing? See the plastic flappy thing that holds it in place when tight? You just lift that up and you can undo it. You must be talking about something else I guess.
  6. All the cable ties i've come into contact with have a little plastic "flappy thing" which you just lift up so you can undo the cable tie.
  7. A bump for this great rig. Only 3 hours left on Ebay. Can someone start bidding to get it up to a respectable price? If it stays low, i'll bid, then i'll be out of pocket, and if it's low enough for me to bid, then poor umcoo will be out of pocket!! Help him sell it for a decent price, and help me keep hold of my cash

With only two possibilities to try, it really would be quicker to just set them up, and listen to the differences when you swap them around. Use the order that sounds best to your ears in your opinion.
  9. It seems weird to want c# AND d#, why not a# and c#? with the c# string you wont need the open d# (IMHO etc).
  10.
Blimey.... a pedal for every different tone.... I would then be having lesson's from Fred Astaire .. Instead of a Bass tutor.... Garry
Or 1 multi effects pedal storing every different tone. I'm not saying you can't choose different tones from different playing styles. I play with my fingers, a thumb pick, my thumb and my nails - but I still gig with 20 odd pedals. It might be a bit extreme, but say you have a chorus where you want loads of low end or the like. You can start playing closer to the neck, and play with your fingers etc etc, but you may not have the tone you actually want until you boost the bass on your on-board pre. To do that you have to move like superman, or miss some notes, so get an EQ pedal instead. It makes sense to me anyway.
  11. If you want a load of different sounds, I don't think an onboard pre-amp is best. I certainly can't play and twiddle knobs at the same time! IMO you should use pedals, or pedal switchable pres/amps for lots of different sounds.
  12. Apparently my schecter with EMGs has passive pickups but 18v active EQ. I don't really understand, I just like the sound of it. I would love to install a passive switch, but I don't know if this is possible/easy?
  13.
martin turner was wishbone ash's bass player !!
They've had a few. Mervyn Spence was one, and he gave me his bass balls - which was on the same stage as metallica etc on his european tours (apparently).
  14. For me, I use a sh*t load of pedals to constantly change my "tone" throughout the gig. I think that people deffinitely notice some of the more weird effects I do, but they probably don't realise how much I am changing my sound all the time. However, I think that if I stopped doing it, then regular fans would notice that there are less dynamics in the songs, or the choruses don't sound as massive, or the guitars didn't sound as heavy or whatever - and they wouldn't realise it was a lack of bass pedals. So, yeh, it can be a self indulgent thing, but it's like spending hours mixing an album. Your standard lamen won't know what you've spent hours doing, but he'll notice it sounds good.
  15.
As I see it, one need for recording with a click is when cut/pasting sections of tracks after the song is recorded. If a piece of bassline in a verse (for example) had a fluff in it and it wasn't spotted till after I went home, the engineer could cut/paste that section of the bassline from another verse where the bassline wes flawless. If a click hadn't been used, the band could very easily have strayed from the tempo of the first verse (middle 8 with a different groove, solo section with a more driving/pumping style - lots of reasons), possibly rendering the cut/paste impossible or at least difficult, which of course equals wasted time & money.
unless you stray from the tempo a significant amount - as in it sounds like a mistake - which it wont if you're rehearsed, then the edits are pretty easy. For example, I have been recording my new band, and the bassist f*cked up half a verse but got the second half of the verse right. Now, i'm playing drums for this, so they're pretty sloppy and we had sped up noticably. I just time stretched the 2nd half of the verse and pasted it for the 1st. I actually had to turn down the gain for this edit as well because the dynamics of the verse had built up. It took about 2 minutes. I suppose it would be easier from an engineers perspective to use a click, but I don't like to constrain musicians. Don't you feel that it holds you back a bit? I have played to clicks before and I felt it held us back.
  16. I sent him a message yesterday morning asking if he got the payment. He replied last night at around 8 saying that he had received and posted the strings.
  17.
It's actually a pretty good pedal BTW. Doesn't do that "fattening" thing that compressors are known for but it does keep your peaks under control without trashing your sound. I've got one on my board to rein in any crazy stunts some of my other pedals might try to pull.
+1 I love mine. It's great for clean guitars as well.
  18.
Great news mate..... if you don't ask etc. Mart. (from over the border, 12 miles down the A53)
I used to live on the A53. When do I get my endorsement?!?!? psn - Well done you wrotter!

    Which 6?

I have played a washburn 6 - it was a very nice bass to play. I can't remember the sound of it but it was deffinitely very easy to play. They come up on Ebay and i'm always so tempted!
  20. I have a korg rack tuner, a zoom gfx 707, a zoom b2.1u, some other zoom guitar thing, and a boss tuner all at my disposal. I haven't noticed any tracking differences between them, and they all take a second or two to register lock in on the pitch of the lower string. Perhaps because the strings "flap" so much. I also have VST tuners on the computer, and I have been in studios and used the fender pedal tuner and a behringer tuner and still the same - no difference really.
  21. well, yeh, but if you're playing in a band with distorted/heavy guitars then in general a clean blend will always help you cut through and remain defined. In the studio it may not be appropriate. To be fair, I might not be saying that if I had an expensive bass rig so....
  22. I find blending is much more useful than just retaining the low end.
  23.
I told you I didn't want to hurt you, I just wanted to neaten up your bikini line.
Well my girlfriend was NOT appreciative of "Mr P"s new Jewish haircut.
  24.
So who else here can claim to have faced down a razorblade weilding serial killer?
Me
  25.
I actually found BC because I was googling something that was on ebay for information and found a for sale advert on BC featuring the same product (but not the same actual item), so the classifieds do have a role to play in attracting new members.
Yeh, I found it in the same way. I didn't think I needed to post in introductions, i've never done that on other forums, I didn't realise it would seem rude! Maybe it only seems rude if I put a for sale ad up in the first week? Doesn't that sound a bit silly? Anyway, yeh, we've had this discussion loads of times and it seems like we don't really have a problem. People who want stricter controls or rules are placing too much responsibility on the mods.
