Alex
Yeh, don't get too bogged down in the "classic sound" or "classic playing" or whatever all the experts think you should do with your bass. We're not all playing motown covers!
2. Ahhhh, never mind. No-one will play me at chess and I thought it might be a good way to get some mates into it!
3. how much to ship the drinking chess set do you think?

Roland V-Bass

I've not used one, but would love to try it! I played a guitar one once, but only for 10 minutes, it was very fun! The pickup on that was very thin, I would have thought it would fit next to the bridge on your bass, but I don't know for sure.
5. Are you familiar with the controls on a compressor? Have you tried it with some sort of level meter? Maybe it's just so transparent you can't tell that it's compressing your bass! Maybe it's just behringer being crap. I've tried that pedal though in the shop. I wasn't sure if it was compressing my bass enough, so I hooked it up to a keyboard in the shop, set it as a "brick wall" limiter at the lowest threshold, and turned the keyboard volume up and down while I played it. The volume of the keyboard didn't change with the control, so the limiter must have been working. It didn't sound much different though.
6. Isn't it crap when your pedals start spilling off your board! It kind of defeats the purpose of having a board 'cos it still takes ages to set up!
7. Sorry, I didn't mean that you deliberately did it, I should have worded my post better. What I meant is that this is how he will probably see it, and these will probably be the consequences, and there was probably no need to make the post seeing as this thread had just got back on topic. I only said it because it's a topic I care about and think should be discussed properly. Sorry if I caused any offence!
8.
Blimey, just for a second I was back in my 3rd year History class. I swear I could almost hear old Evans droning on about Magellan and Copernicus and threatening us with detention.
You know keeping your amusing comments to yourself might be more mature than trying to bait the guy into insulting you so you can ban him.

BOSS LMB-3

I really like mine, it's extremely useful, certainly (IMHO) better and more useful than any compressors you get that just have a level, attack, and compress/sustain controls. You really need (IMHO) control over the ratio and threshold of your compression. Attack is useful, but not so much for limiting. Anyway - If you're not going to be doing much gigging, or playing football with your new pedal, i'd save yourself a sh*tload of money and buy the Behginger copy of the LMB-3.
10. Perry - Are you saying that we're all nice on here but when you meet us in the shop we're total c**ts? I can't speak for anyone else, but that's me down to a T!
11. As soon as I have a few free hours i'll try and organise some of the useful stuff i've read on here and put it in the wiki.
12. Maybe we could talk more about the wiki though, I think it's a great thing and should be developed more. It needs the members to contribute though, we can't just ask the mods to do it all for us.
13.
All well and good but I can't actually do anything with the Wiki and don't really like it much - most people are blissfully unaware of it!!
Maybe this is something we/you/the mods? should work on. The wiki has a lot of potential to be a knowledge-base, created from posts that can be edited and tidied up. A large percentage of the posts on this board must be at least very informative, and I think it would be great to catalogue this welath of knowledge. I wouldn't want the organisation of the library to impact the way that people actually post, so I think it would be good to develop the wiki. For example, there are loads of stikies, and they all contain informative and useful bits of information. In some of the stikies, there is discussion, and this annoys me because I treat them as pure factual threads where I should be able to find out everything in there on the first page. Obviously this is not what they are, but it's what the wiki could be. Can everyone contribute to the wiki? If when I read a useful/informative post, (or got a good link, or good youtube video) I could just click on a wiki button, and then the post was pasted into a form where I could edit it for spelling mistakes, formatting etc, and then decide what category it should go in for the wiki, I think i'd do it all the time, and so would lots of others. Obviously this might be a bitch to code, I wouldn't know.
14. yeh, I think the wiki should be used more. Videos all over the place in whatever forum section could be copied into the wiki in an organised fashion - creating the ordered library of videos, without loads of discussion inbetween them, whilst retaining the random nature of the posts in the general and off topic sections.
15.
It really does amaze me just how good these B2 fx units are for the money! Nik
+1!!!! I wish I still had time to mess around with mine
16.
Here Here.... And whilst we're on the subject, the country whose aristocracy was responsible for alomst singlehandedly wiping out huge numbers of wonderful African creatures as 'trophies'..... creatures who were only killed so the assailant could brag about what a big animal he'd shot.....
Heh, i've never thought about this before, but, you'd think they would brag about the smaller animals, as they're harder to hit! Most amusing.
17. I played my first gig on drums on friday! It was really fun and exciting, and i'm wondering whether I prefer it to the bass!
18.
Also try CD-Baby to get stuff onto iTunes Si
We've just signed up to them, so i'll report back when I know how it's going. Our guitarist spoke to them on the phone and said they were great. Only an american number though so the bills are going to be high!
19.
Anybody at one of the Poles who wishes to check the direction in which their cable was drawn has such severely compromised ability at assessing priorities that we may ignore them, as they will be hypothermic within a couple of days anyway.
A very interesting post. I never realised people looked at wires in such detail!
20. Asda are doing good deals on cheese atm. As is my local herbsman.

Mastering?

Mastering plug-ins I like - Waves C4 multi comp, Waves Ultramaximizer, Waves Maxxbass(if required) I like the tape sim that comes with cubase, but not sure what it's called. Voxengo do a free VST stereo spectrum analyser, which is almost essential when mastering IMO. Especially if your monitors aren't that good.

Pedaldog Pro

That would be so useful for me at gigs. How long does it take to train a dog to operate your pedal board?
23. I heard that the ME50 has a pause when you switch patches. It's ok on standard "stomp box mode" but when you use it in "patch mode" (which is where multi-fx come into their own) there is a gap, or a very short mute, before the next patch kicks in. This would really annoy me. The Zoom has the fastest patch switching around, apparently.
24. I play bass for my serious band, guitar at home, and drums for my "just a bit of fun" band, which is turning out to be quite good! The drumming itself is easy stuff to play, and i've been playing around with drums for ages, so it's not that difficult, but the stamina you need to be a rock drummer! I'm so knackered after 30 minutes of practicing I need a break! I have my first gig as a drummer on saturday and i'm quite nervous about it, getting the kit set up right and in time, not making any stupid errors etc. I think mistakes on the drums will stand out way more than they do on bass.
