1.
£599 for a musicmaster! Doh! http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/fl...7673/a/r/e/base
That's a guitar though! Well, never mind. Maybe I can get her to sell it me back for £70. I really liked it but needed the money at the time, and I only play 6 strings in the band.
2. yeh, but a white pick guard. It's not worth loads is it?
3. I sold, what I thought was a crappy old cheap bass for £70 in order to buy a drum kit. I think it said Fender Musicmaster on it though. Can anyone link me to some pics so I know if I have a new regret or not? It was a white short scale thing. I regret not buying a washburn 6 string I saw on ebay once, but I couldn't really afford it, so, no big deal.
4. Some amps don't have the option of a DI post e.q so the soundman should know how to eq the bass if he's using a DI in this way. Obviously, they won't always be great soundmen, but, you think they'd know the basics of what they are doing if it's their job.
5. I'm drumming for a punk-ish band, just for fun, and we've done some demos using a drum machine (can't record drums atm). I can actually play it all, just not quite that tight! Here's a link to the myspace with 4 songs, let me know what you think! myspace.com/theprematureejaculatorscomingsoon
6. Erroneous! I actually bought it with the captain scarlet comics already on. I'll have another go with the craft knife and let you all know.
7. Thanks for that! I've wanted an in-depth article about this for a while. I'd love to try it myself!
8. I think he wanted good reasons stewart
9. So in the case of these drug companies - How do they know that the real responders aren't just placebo responders in the wrong group? I realise that under observation, the same people may have similar responces to similar tests, but, there must be 1000s of different placebos. What i'm saying is, that if you take the idea of different placebos affect different people to different extents, aren't all placebo related tests pointless? Also, maybe the true healing power of the placebo can never be harnessed for mass use (this would be great, obviously) due to the fact that they generally only work if you don't know they're doing nothing. EDIT: Has anyone read Derren Brown's book? It has a good section on placebos, and new-age + chinese medicine etc.
10. I've tried a sharp blade, but it doesn't slide between the speaker rim and cab, it just cuts into one or the other. Does this mean it's glued do you think? Is this common?
11. Good point actually. If you're used to using a rack/pro/vst compressor, then the limitations of pedal compressors can be rather annoying!
12.
so, I cant use that hand position... I slap with my thumb facing down as someone who'd wear their bass on their knees...
I have the same thumbs, and i'm in eactly the same situation! (we should get t-shirts)
13. I've not tried any boutique etc stuff as mentioned above^ just Boss, digitech, Zoom, cheap ones, y'know, but: I know it's weird and "cheap" but the Ibanez cp5 has the most punch ever! I have tried a lot of compressors, and this little bad boy is the best! It's a little noisy, but the attack knob makes up for that. I'd love it if one other BC member got a cp5 and agreed with me. Just one!
14. Yeh, I don't think it's specific to anyone really. Certain people seem more receptive to the placebo effect, but, I find it hard to see how there could any be any objective test to see if some people are more receptive than others. If you had two depressed people, and you gave the singer some sugar tablets and he felt ok, and gave the bassist a brand new (what's in fashion these days?) Wal and he didn't feel much better, or he felt 100 times better, you couldn't really make a judgement either way. I don't know if i'm making sense, but i'd like to know if there are any tests/studies that have been or can be done to see the responsiveness of people to the placebo effect, and whether the results of this would suggest different responses from different "groups" of people.
15. Thanks for that! It looks very useful. Now I can make a more informed decision.
16. The status ones look like they only go to 140, where as the "galli saturn" or whatever go to 145. I'm going to see if I can find these anywhere with a bulk discount, although I should probably just try one set first.
17.
Saitenkatalog in Germany? They do individual strings as well as sets - looking at the 6-string sets, the second one down is D'Addario EXL165s which have the bottom two as 105 and 135.
Ta for the link! I wanted something a bit heavier than that, but on the same site: Galli SG6n SATURN Nickel round wound 6-string M .035 .050 .070 .085 .110 .145 - set / E-Bass This is what I need! Damn expensive though :-/
18. Does anyone know where I can get 6 string sets where the low B is around 140, and the E 110-120? They all seem to be lighter, but these two strings are a bit "flappy" 'cos i'm down-tuning.
19. I've got a Bob the Blender, which is just supposed to be a valve pre-amp with blender. It does a small bit of compression, and when you really drive it, it breaks up nicely. Not much of a compressor, obviously, but it's not supposed to be. I'm guessing the compressor would be just as impressive, but I can't really recommend it haven't not tried it.
20. DHA compressor? My favorite compressor for a very punchy sound, is the Ibanez CP5.
21. Well, it was my dad who bought it, 'cos he was paying for it, and we paid him back kinda thing. He just asked if it would cover both of our stuff and they said yeh, I never read the contract properly, I get screwed, it's my own fault really!
22.
No, 20 Hz. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_hearing We can hear it, but it needs a very serious rig to produce it (or just use head phones as they need much less power). D.
Heh, sorry, just got my facts wrong. I did do a music tech degree but, since then i've been playing with my 'ERBs too much!
23. They thought something was suspicious, which it was really, from their point of view. We had 8 guitars nicked, reported it to the company, got 7 of them back a day later and reported that. I can see how it might seem a bit weird, so they had to investigate etc. The thing that really gets me angry is the fact that they took the details of my AND my housemate's stuff that got nicked, and didn't tell us until a month ago that they can only pay out for my stuff! This cuts my claim in half 'cos I have to give half to my housemate 'cos he paid for half the policy, that they told us, covered us both! I wish I had read the damn thing properly :-( Lloyds home insurance if anyone wants to know who to avoid/petrol bomb for me.
24. But humans can't really hear anything below 40Hz?
