1. You pay £2 for a cup of coffee? I'm broke in the real sense of the word (or expression), as in I can't afford to go out, or buy £2 coffees or £6.66 pints! I buy what I need, and I don't need a hard case atm. However, I had the insurance woman on the phone this morning, and she assures me the cheque will be sent today. 14 months after I was burgled! I shall treat my bass to a nice new secure home.
2.
Playing a bass line without having to think about it, leaving you free to concentrate on the vocals... is that not what muscle memory is about?
Muscle memory is your muscles remembering/gettings used to how to perform certain actions, which makes your playing techniques easier and smoother and quicker etc. Your muscles can't remember how to play a song, you've just learn it off by heart to the point of being able to play it without thinking about it, which is something in your brain, rather than your muscles.
3.
Hard case £40, delivered. Thats two sets of strings or, what, 6 pints of beer? http://www.spider-engineering.co.uk/music/...sp?id=3948-3980 Daft not to, really
I wouldn't pay £40 for 6 pints of beer! But then, i'm broke and don't go out. Ta for the link, i'll get a couple of them when I get my f*ckin insurance check!
4. I'm not gay!
5. Basically, if you need a hard case, you must have erectile dysfunction.
6. Heh, I wouldn't go that far! If I could afford hard cases, i'd get them as I drive to my gigs/practices and have a large car. I'm just pointing out that using gig bags doesn't mean you have to treat your bass like a baby or it will get damaged.
7. Heh, most amusing. Even without the tuning pegs, I still think that'd be too painful. But seriously, when I take my bass to gigs, I store it in a safe, dry place in it's soft case where it won't get hurt. I take it out of the bag to play, put it back in after, put it in the car with either a load of heavy amps (so it looks a little squashed) , or with nothing (so it rattles around a bit). I'm not saying I treat it badly, i'm just saying that I think you lot would think I treat it badly. I would have no problem selling my bass, as it's in absolutely perfect condition, regardless of what it's been through. You're probably restricting yourself from getting some bargains if you don't even look at a bass 'cos it's in a gig bag and not a hard case.
8. You'd want to inspect the condition of the thing, obviously, but it's not as though my I could do any damage that wouldn't be obvious enough to see. Either way, if you like my 1980 JAYDEE supernatural (no idea what this is) when you play it, you had better buy it and stop worrying about how it's been treated in the past. I could have used it as a masturbation receptical for all you know, but at least I cleaned it off before trying to sell it. It still plays the same.
9.
muscle memory
I don't want to take this off topic, but I think you have the wrong idea about muscle memory. I had a discussion about it on another message board, and it turns out there's a very informative Wiki about it somewhere.
10.
Squashed between amps and stuff get thrown around quite a bit I bet your bass has some serious mojo
No, that's what i'm saying, it's in it's soft case (warwick rockbag) and it doesn't have a scratch!
11. basses aren't really that fragile though. Maybe if you're in a horrific car crash your bass with be knackered, but, you've just come out of a near death experience, probably not that bothered about your bass. Even if it was in a hard case it might not have been saved. I've never been able to afford a hardcase for my bass, as i've always had more pressing things to buy. I've never had any problems with my basses, they get thrown around quite a bit in my car, get squashed between amps and stuff. I know this is going to sound horrific to some of you, but there's no damage. Don't be so protective or your bass will never have any balls!
12.
I don't think he stayed long enough to find out!
I thought you were joking when you said he dropped it! That's a pretty nasty thing to do, even if the staff were snooty.
13.
So he just dropped it and walked out.
Was it dented?
14. I can't talk and play at all, but I know people who can. I can talk and play drums though! Weird.
15. I have to learn some new bvs and it's so hard to do whilst playing in a weird timing!
16. If you want a double tracked sound, try a chorus or a short delay time.
17.
....slightly soiled
I was going to make a similarly disgusting retort, but then I remembered I was on basschat and I should mind my manners! You should start some self-moderation :-p
18. Where can I get a Mark King sleeping bag?!??
19. I haven't watched the solo, but i've seen plenty of live footage. You think he'd get a bad back from walking around like that! I don't think he looks unprofessional, I think that would be very hard to do in Metallica!
20.
You're not the only one, my friends and I do the same.
Are we racist?
21. Maybe we should have an 'erb forum instead?
22. What's the point? You think they'd just do a backing track.
23. I've tried that kind of bi-amping before, and, it was good, but not as good as running my FX straight into the bi-amp rig. Weird?
24. Thanks! That does make sense. It's very hard for me to think of a way around that though, as obviously I know the riff very well, and it inhibits my sonic imagination!
25. We've finished the CD now, it's 3 tracks. We're not making them all available at the moment, as we're considering our options, but, on www.myspace.com/nologorock, you can listen to one of the new songs called "fake smiles in the photograph". Please let me know what you think of the recording/mix/master.
