I already use thumb picks, but hadn't thought about finger picks. I would worry about damaging the strings with metal picks though. I get through 7 plastic thumb picks on average each month.
I guess nail carnish would be ok if it actually strengthened the nail enough. Any ladies know about that?
There is a definite difference in tone between playing hard, and playing medium, or soft. Plus, at gigs, we all get a bit carried away, surely?
Maybe if I kept them cut I wouldn't break them, but then I wouldn't have such a mean tone for my pops!
I always break at least one nail at each gig I play. I know it's from popping too hard, but I can't seem to stop it! Anyone else have this problem? Any advice to get around it?
The last gig I played I broke the 2nd finger nail and bit it off. Then the nail on my 3rd finger ripped, and I couldn't bite it off as it was so far in! Now I have bloody strings, which is rather annoying.
I like the bass balls, but, not really for funky sounds, more for making strange noises and stuff.
I quite like the boss AW-3 with a bit of OD after it.

Basically, I misread Kev's first reply to me. You don't need intelligence or literacy to be "ready for pedals".
My board is bigger than most people's (I gig with 21 pedals), but my member smaller, so it all evens out.
No offence taken!
Heh, cool. I have to admit i've never listened to KISS sorry!
Do you have support when you play there? Does it get packed? It'd be cool to play with more than 30 people in the room!
Who's using the Peavey cheddatom?
Me, and the Johnson 2 x 12" you see to the right of it.
How much do you need to raise them by? Maybe you could just put a double layer of velcro down. Otherwise, wood has to be the way to go I think. You need a material that you can cut at home, that you can get thick enough, and that you can glue velcro to. Wood!
I'd say that's good advice!
However, I received the same advice "change your technique" when I went to see a physio clinic thing about an RSI in my wrist. I really can't think of ways to change the way I play that will benifit my wrist. Are there websites around? Or tutorials and things? I have been playing quite a long time, and used to teach guitar, and thought my bass techniques were ok but..... obviously not.
its only loud if you turn the knob
it can be quiter than a pin dropping if your that way inclined!
But then there'd be no dirt?
Interesting.
I just downlaoded a Gary Newman & Tubeway Army Greatest Hits! I haven't really heard any Gary Newman before, but I love "Music for Chameleons" the song. I know it from the Alan Partridge DVD menu. I may investigate your suggestions further, seeing as I don't listen to enough music.
I tihnk you'll find that was 'Music For Chameleons' by Gary Numan....Pino Palladino was playing with him about that time, not sure if it was him playing
Thankyou very much! I'm downloading it as I type.
I see. I don't think I could use that to be fair. It sounds fun, but, I couldn't cope with an extremely loud pedal. I just fancied a really nice bit of dirt. Sorry!
Funny that, I'd rather tame tigers for a hobby anyday than perform a Mark King solo, Live!
The only one I can think of is Alan Partridge playing the airbass does that count
I know this might seem stupid to those of you who know what i'm talking about, but, what the hell is that funky bassline that Alan's airbassing to? I really want a copy of that song/album.
Yeh, I think swapping it is going to be the best bet. If your set up is noisless without it, you shouldn't have to buy a noisegate. I have a noisegate as my set-up has always been noisy due to high gain and cheap pedals etc.
I'd say listen to the soundclip either you like it or you don't what more info do you need to know?
I want to know what controls and features it has. I can't listen to the sound clips at the moment!
