1. www.headsticks.co.uk I did it with the guitarist doing some of the graphics. I host it with 123-reg. I don't think it attracts attention from promoters or venues, but it's popular with fans to find gigs, and to buy tickets, music, or merch. We do quite a lot of sales though the site.
2. Cool. A mate of mine has nicked the whole Waves SSL package apparently, so I'll give it a go on his system before I shell out
3. sounds cool, great playing too! When you say they're better than the stuff you get as standard in DAWs, which DAWs have you tried? And do you think you're just finding it easier to get the result you want with the Waves plugins? As in it would be possible to do with the built in VSTs but it might take you longer? I stopped adding VSTs to my system a couple of years ago as I found I was messing about too much switching between different EQs or different Compressors, rather than just using the tool in front of me to do what I want. I do love the idea of SSL channels in my DAW though
4.
New interview with Joe http://www.notreble....de-32-joe-dart/
Yes, it's ace, listened to this Saturday morning. The Flea story is lovely
5. Rebellion festival yesterday. We were first on in the arena stage. It's such a good festival but I had a wedding to attend the night before, and my lift had to shoot off straight after so I didn't really get to experience the atmosphere much, or see any other bands. Anyway, it was ace, great sound guys, great gear, I'm on drums and the shared kit was freshly skinned and well tuned which is brilliant
6.
Thank you so far !!! Now if you had my equipment how would you set it up? Sorry but I'm new at this and I'm sure u guys can help . Also please use easy terminology as English is not my first language and I struggled when we talk recording gear stuff;-)
Well if you get the ADA8200, you connect this to your interface, then you plug your mics into the ADA8200 and point the mics at the sound source(s) you want to record
7.
that is way overkill lol. TWO mics on the snare. Plenty of great mixers can record drums with 3 mics, snare, kick and toms/cymbals. seriously. youtube has lots of how tos on this subject https://www.youtube....eature=youtu.be https://www.youtube....0&v=Kxcufuj-OCE
Yep, I've done plenty of that, but I like choices, and micing the snare top and bottom really helps. Sometimes I'll have two mics on the top and one on the bottom. It's not overkill lol, it's giving yourself maximum flexibility
8. no the ADA8200 has pre-amps in it (much like your mixer) but outputs each channel individually in digital data via the ADAT link into your interface A mixer is generally used to mix multiple inputs down to one or two channels - E.G your live PA. You don't want to do that as you want to be able to process each channel individually after you've recorded I do actually use a mixer in my studio, but I take the Direct Outputs of each channel, and feed them into my audio interface which can accept up to 24 analogue inputs, so I'm not really using the master bus of my mixer
9.
...Having a hit is media driven (exposure and image) rather than content driven and how good something is musically is almost entirely academic.
I couldn't agree more, well said
10. I wouldn't know if it'll overheat sorry. I've never had a problem and used to push the same (Boss) PSU to the max. It might be worth getting a better PSU anyway as you'll then be able to expand in the future
11. some will work but with weird artefacts. My DD-20 seems to work fine but all the lights go off - if I don't have enough current on the daisy chain A lot of pedals are rated with a higher current than they really need If it sounds OK and works - who cares?!
12.
Nice "fans"!
I think there might have been some alchohol involved - neither of them will remember I'm sure :/
13. It looks like you have a 2 channel interface already. You need an interface that can record enough channels. For each mic you also need a pre-amp. You can get interfaces with built in pre-amps, which is probably the most cost effective way for you to go. There are loads to choose from. Also some of these new digital mixers tend to have USB for multi-channel interface - I think the Behringer X32 does this? For drums, I like 1 mic on the kick, 2 on the snare, 1 for each tom, 2 overheads, 1 or two room, and occasionally a hi-hat mic. Figure out the number of channels you need and then look for an interface to match. The Tascam US-16x08 looks like good value to me! I'm not sure whether you'd want thunderbolt rather than USB - don't know much about Macs, hopefully someone else will help on that front
14. Wistful festival - small affair in a barn, way too loud but people didn't seem to mind, we played well and they were shouting for more Some of the "fans" are getting a bit too familiar - before we played one of them pulled my hair, and another called me a c**t when I refused to kiss her!
15. I just use a guitar wah as I have a lo-passed clean blend on my whole effects chain ...I use a Zvex wah probe which is kind of gimmicky but I'm very used to it now and it sounds ace. I've also really enjoyed the Boss AW-3 with EXP pedal although don't bother since my cheap EXP pedal broke
16.
A blend control now that's someone original for a wah
rather than a clean blend it'd be good to have a lo-pass blend, so keep everything up to like 200Hz clean and then wah above that. Otherwise the bass can really drop out
17.
The 'less is more ' attitude is similar to when ugly to average looking people say ' looks aren't important it's personality that counts'. I'm all for players of all types of instrument holding back when they need to but not for a whole song. At some point I wanna hear them let rip and show what they're made of. I like to see virtuosity pumped up to the max and make a point of learning from DVDs and You Tube clips from the best in the business. I want to learn bass techniques from Vic Wootten or Billy Sheehan not some bloke in a crappy indie band
If Wooten or Sheehan were in a crappy indie band, they'd just play the same boring basslines, because that's what fits, so I guess what you mean is that you don't like crappy indie and you assume any bassist playing in a crappy indie band can't do anything more technically proficient than what they show in their crappy indie band ...or do you think Wooten would improve the crappy indie band with a bunch of ridiculous slapping?
18. I think when people say it, they're talking about some "overplaying" which is not serving the song. This could be an unnecessary drum fill for example. The band would say "You know, sometimes less is more". The producer would say "leave that sh*t out!"
19. I guess you've just been unlucky. I'm mates with two outstanding drummers, both living locally to me, both only interesting in serving the song. I even know a lead guitarist who won't show off unless you beg him to! And he plays through a Pod and sounds good!!! EDIT: I know loads of intelligent musicians who know how to listen to the whole mix and "serve the song" but I mention these two drummers as they really are exceptional, like world class. Also both these guys played in orchestras growing up (as did I) and marching bands ruin my lie in on an annual basis
20.
US players are in general better at serving the song than their european counterparts in my (extensive) experience. I suspect it is largely due to the emphasis put on ensemble playing (marching bands, orchestras, etc) in the US as opposed to the individualistic approach prevalent here in the UK. One of the hardest lessons for UK musicians to learn seems to be a combination of "there ARE other beats in a 4/4 bar than 1,2,3 and 4" and "the melodic part of the song isn't where you stand around looking bored between solos". But I still miss the American drummers I worked with.
So UK drummers have an individualistic approach because we don't have orchestras or marching bands?!? I guess you're posting from your own experience but your generalisation doesn't bare any relation to my experiences
21. Jack Stratton (Vulfpeck) said in an interview something like "If what you're playing isn't a hook, you shouldn't be playing it" and he was talking about everyone, every instrument
22.
Sounds like my idea of hell. I'd rather give up altogether than play gigs like that!
Hah, I think the front man would agree with you! For me it was a new experience, pretty fun, and definitely "punk"
23. Great to see it finished, it's so beautiful, well done!!
