It's tempting. How many amps do you get out of that setup? I have a few digital pedals

dood - is it any less noisy than a decent PSU?

I like to play new things. Usually that's original stuff that either I've written, or someone asks me to write a part for. I regularly come up with ideas that I can't actually play, and so have to practise them. Even if it only takes 5 minutes practise to be able to play the idea, it's still progress, and I'm still a better player. If you don't have similar experiences then I guess you're just always playing stuff that's easily within your abilities. There's nothing wrong with that at all! As long as your enjoying yourself! What worries me is that I've met several players who consider themselves "average and happy" IE not willing to push themselves or practise, and yet they are trying to play beyond their abilities. There are absolutely loads of bands with bassists and/or drummers who can't actually play the material they're trying to play (to a good standard) and are not aware that they're below par. It really winds me up! Obviously you get these buys on other instruments too, but they can kind of get away with it
I don't know what "Sex On Fire" us or who recorded it. I probably should but I don't.
Luckiest man alive? -
Great playing BottomE - how do you resist the urge to dance?!?

IME people don't normally like it when bands change direction, which is probably why modern bands tend to stay on a similar tack -
Thanks for the videos guys!

How can you tell a good drummer and a bad drummer apart?
cheddatom replied to Phil Starr's topic in General Discussion
most of the bands I've played in seem to all follow the same time/groove. No one person is setting the tempo, we're all just working together off the same tempo, or at least after the count-in or intro we are -

Deftones used to play about with tempo quite a bit too, you'd never say they weren't "solid" -
...There's nothing worse than playing with a technically brilliant, metronomic drummer who you can't lock in with because they don't play the same bass drum pattern twice!
Indeed, very frustrating!!!! -

I was on drums at a gig once, and I knew I would have to be subdued and quiet due to the crowd/lineup/venue. However, the soundman pissed me off early on with a bad attitude. When he asked me to go around the kit, I thrashed the sh*t out of it playing some stupid metal and fast fills etc. just to let off some steam. I think anyone who saw that would have assumed I was either a bad drummer, or wouldn't suit the band I was with. After we played, the soundman approached me to say "When I saw you at soundcheck I thought you were going to be a nightmare, playing too loud and all over the place. I was so wrong, nice set!" So, I think sometimes you see a musician out of context, and you shouldn't make assumptions...
I know if I'll like a drummer with just one fill during set-up...
This is ridiculous -
I played on bass on Friday, very enjoyable, although I'm not happy with my sound at the moment. I don't think I've changed anything, but maybe I just need a change? I'll take another bass next time On drums on Saturday at Wigan Diggers' festival - great atmosphere and crowd. However, just as I'd set my kit up, before I'd had chance to put any ear plugs in, one of the engineers turned up the drum monitor with a vocal mic right next to it, which was live and fed through the monitor. The resulting blast of feedback left me feeling nauseous and my hearing is still duller today. I'm so pissed off about this - I mix/produce a lot of music, and need my hearing intact! Obviously mistakes happen, everyone's human and all that but FFS!!! I'll now be wearing earplugs whenever I'm within 10ft of a PA

I know a few players (not drummers) who know they're below par but never seem to improve. I find this really weird. If you know you're not very good, or not as good as your band requires, why are you not improving?!

It is crap playing with a bad on-stage sound though. No matter how much the audience enjoyed the gig I always find it difficult to get enthusiastic
-
Does your sound have a low of low end? It seems to me the only problems I get in bad rooms are in the low end of the sound. Cut this out (or boost the mids) and I get a nice punchy sound which I can hear clearly. However, if you're relying on your rig to provide the bass FOH I guess you're a bit stuffed

Rehearsal room: "Can you lock up when you leave, please?"
cheddatom replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
I'm associated with Riff Factory rehearsal studios in Stoke. The idea of leaving all that expensive gear in there unattended, and asking a customer to take responsibility for locking up is just scary! I'm sure the insurance would never cover it if anything happened, and I can imagine so may bad situations potentially arising from this. So, Riff Factory is always staffed when bands are in. -
A fair few years ago I did 10 straight nights in Canada in an area - that was sold out at 10k per night. Great times. Lots of fun. Did a half time at Old Trafford at 75k I think - but mimed!! Done a few other stadiums as sports event ents - Wembley, Millennium Stadium, Murrayfield etc - they were all 30 / 40k I guess. The biggest where people actually paid for tickets to see the band though was 6k - outdoor festival thing I headlined last year. Did one a few weeks back at 4k I think. I guess doing Radio 1 Maida Vale sessions and Jonathon Ross show had more viewers and listeners but they don't really count!! I'd rather 100 people in the 'King's Knob' to be honest!!
Very impressive! Was this all with the same band? What are they called?
...But that mod is not for the feint hearted...
How come? I did it on a couple of zoom units, just de-soldered the connections, soldered some wires in where they used to be, and soldered these wires to the new footswitch. It seemed simple to me. Maybe the Line6 design makes it harder?
-
Looks good, I'll have to check it out. I'd not heard of your band Daveo but I'm following them on Facebook now as you're local, hope to catch a gig soon
-
I use it a lot when I'm jamming in my funk band, or making wild sounds or playing chords in my weird metal band, but now I think about it, I do quite a bit of work for other people's pop/rock/folk/country and I doubt I've used it once in any of these situations.
-
Have you asked Line6? Anyway, it should be easy enough to replace with a standard footswitch, probably momentary like this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/250vac-3a-momentary-action-foot-switch-n85ar
actually I've just thought of a band that's doing very well without a record deal and some older looking members, Ferocious Dogs, the first unsigned band to sell out Rock City, wonder how they did it? nothing too original, bit like the Levellors
Indeed! We played the after show party at that gig and do a lot on that scene, it's really thriving! FD have put the work in to build up a fiercely loyal fan base, which takes time and a lot of hard work. I wonder how many would turn up if they played The Shed? Probably a few!
