1. I've had two 6 strings for years and swap between them a lot. I didn't realise until the other day when a mate played them that they have different string spacings. I've just never even noticed!
2. also, if the drum isn't well tuned, it won't be very responsive, and you might be tempted to hit them harder to get a sound out of it
3. I don't know if this helps, but I didn't really get to grips with this until I started playing without ear-plugs. I still wear them at gigs as it's essential (for most anyway) but practising without them really helped me keep the volume down, especially on the crash cymbals
4. if the same thing is happening with another amp it would be logical to assume the fault isn't with the amp, although obviously you might have a rare coincidence there
5. I play drums in a few bands. Drumming well, with the right feel, at low volume, was a big struggle for me for years. I think I've got there now. IME it's got nothing to do with the size of the drums. Actually I don't find hotrods any quieter, although I guess you do get less attack from the cymbals which will help. I've just gotten used to playing quietly, and I use huge sticks.
6. cool! Sounds great too
7. It won't let me choose more than one?
8. it's a bit difficult to tell with the acoustic sound of the bass mixed in there. Out of my collection of dirt pedals, I'd try my tube screamer (high gain, low tone) and my danelectro french toast. Two very different pedals, but I reckon I could get close to that sound with either one.
9. please be careful. I would get a professional electrician to come and check your house out
10. you don't necessarily need a harmony to thicken the sound. Some EQ, compression, chorus, short delay, would all help
11. I'm sure it's not the intended purpose, but I love the sound of the Stone Deaf PDF-1 on dirty mode. It's a parametric EQ, and I think it's supposed to be for guitarists to do the "stuck wah" thing, but I love it on bass.
12. yeh he's mentioned us a few times. I think there are some friendly connections going on somewhere Anyway, maybe see you at one of these "folk punk" gigs, we seem to be getting loads at the moment!
13. I once re-soldered a wire to the jack socket with a lighter, just a minute before we went on! There's always a way
14. I've replaced broken strings a few times mid-set. I guess if it was a really important gig I'd take a backup bass, but yeh, I'd have it on stage where I could get it quickly, rather than back stage or in the car!
15.
what band are you in if you don't mind me asking, we (folkthesystem) played on the sunday eve at farmer phils oo, wicked festival but i'd drawn the short straw and had to drive home after the leylines set.
Headsticks, we were first on so not the fullest crowd!!
16. I have one that looks the same as the one here http://www.rondomusic.com/v26tribalblue.html It's at least 15 years old though, maybe older, a different colour, and passive. I really like it and still play it occasionally, although I do own a couple of more expensive and nicer 6 strings.
17.
Brilliant - John Coughlan on drums and Sean Lock on guitar. Nice to see an 'all star' band!
HAHA! Excellent. I had to look up John Coughlan. I don't think I'm quite that good looking, but thanks
18. Farmer Phil's festival yesterday. A bit of an odd one but good fun. Quite reassuring to know I can nail a gig while still recovering from the night before
19. Who is it who books the bands? I have nothing to do with that side of it Anyway, here's one of our songs from the set http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyU1q3jBsmU&feature=youtu.be
20. I bought a Brice 6 string bass from an ebay shop in the states about 15 years ago. It was my main bass for a couple of years until I could afford nicer basses. I have 2 more very nice 6 strings now, but I have to say, the Brice is still fantastic, even the low B. I think I paid about £150!!
21.
WMD protostar. Also has a CV out for envelope that I use to control my phaser (Chase Bliss Wombtone).
wow, that's very cool! I'll put it on the list
22.
But I assumed our man was asking which pedal it was, not what an LFO is?
Indeed!
23.
I have an envelope filter with an LFO (for autowah) and an expression input. Best of all worlds.
What's that?
