It's how you read it isn't it? If I read someone taking the piss out of Clayton's simple style, I'll laugh and take it as a joke. If someone else reads it they might think "this guy HATES Adam Clayton! How awful!!"

Any Basschatters going to/playing at Rebellion this year?
cheddatom replied to Lozz196's topic in General Discussion
I guess so? To be honest I'd not heard of the festival until my band fell into the punk scene. I've never really been into punk much. Anyway, everyone else in the band was very excited and it did seem like a pretty big deal when we were there. Also, the day after, a bandmate from another band felt the need to tell me that he'd played there years ago, and been asked back, but turned them down as they'd seen to many right-wing/fascist types there. I didn't see anything like that so I think either the festival has changed somewhat since he played, or he was just a bit jealous. -
600ma isn't over the top for a digital pedal. I would suggest getting a 1spot, a gigrig isolator, and a daisy chain. Use the daisy chain to connect the isolator and the korg, then plug the rest into the isolator. That way you have alot of room for expansion.
What's the point of the isolator there? Also, wouldn't you have a load of spare plugs on the daisy chain? I hate that and always have to tape them up out of the way
how much do the minor bands get for playing these days? when I played there in 2008 we got wristbands for the whole weekend, I've heard now you only get one for the day you're playing
Yes, that was the case for me anyway, I guess it depends what stage you're on? You could buy a wristband for all 4 days for £50 which seemed like pretty good value. Unfortunately I had sessions in the studio so couldn't take advantage -
Hey Chaddatom, you're band's just been mentioned on 6Music (Steve Lamacq)! Complimentary message by a listener. Nice one :-)
Yeh, someone mentioned that last night - pretty cool!
Went great thanks, a virtually packed Arena stage at 1pm on a Thursday, major merch sales - which will pay for our German tour in September - and another snippet which I can`t divulge yet due to details etc still to be worked on/finalised. Caught a bit of your set yesterday, some pretty cool sounds there, a pretty good blend of two styles I thought.
Sounds ace! I'm jealous of the tour I don't really understand why we're embedded in the punk scene, I always thought we were just playing angry folk, but it works anyway, and everyone seems really nice -
I guess if people notice gaps between songs, it's because no-one's talking to the crowd or making any noise. 10-20 seconds to tune is fine, but silence on stage mid set isn't... or at least that's what we've been told!

Latest experience was playing (as a drummer) at a festival yesterday. The supplied rig was some all valve ampeg thing and 8x10". It sounded great, but then our bassist always sounds great. He was grinning and clearly in love with the rig, but it sounded exactly the same as the TC 2x10" combo he normally uses, at least from where I was sat.

Because I'm putting off a job... darkglass is 30ma Cali76 is 78ma at 9V but you can run this at 18V if you want? Which would be 103ma DSM Omnicab - they don't quote the power consumption, but I'm pretty sure I read on here that it's all analogue? So 100ma at the most Korg quote 600ma for the pitchblack but that sounds over the top to me. From what I can gather you want about 300ma for the line6 So, in total, you want a 9v supply that can do up to 1200ma, probably more like 1500ma. I wouldn't have thought you'll have many problems with noise. IME daisychaining from one high quality PSU has been fine, but I know others like isolated outputs There are loads to choose from. I use a Godlyke Powerall with a daisy chain which is great. The two you've suggested should be fine, but the spec on the Voodoo one does seem a little underwhelming. If the "high current" sockets can really only do up to 250ma, the Pitchblack might struggle to work. It looks like they can both do 18V so you could test your Cali76 both ways

I used to do this with a bass combo and a guitar combo. Nowadays I really can't be bothered so just use a clean blend pedal and some EQ. This might be a more practical solution? Otherwise get a small 1 x 12" guitar combo, turn down the bass a bit and run your effects through that?

How did it go Lozz? It was my first time there and I was very impressed. Great atmosphere! -
...With very well known songs you can take huge liberties musically as long as the core melody and feel is firmly recognisable to the punter...
This would be the main attraction to me - see what you can get away with, push yourself

If you're not using any open strings it shouldn't make any difference. So, I guess re-learn the tunes without using any open strings, then it's just a case of "moving the shape" if you know what I mean?
-
ace!!
-
well just asking if you're using compression is a bit pointless. If they asked "are you using a slow attack compressor with low ratio?" or "are you using a fast attack compressor with low threshold?" or something, then it might inform them a little as to the shape of your dynamic envelopes, but not a lot.
-
very cool, great demo, thanks!
-
I actually only put my pedals on the board the day before a gig. I change them around very often, especially fuzzes
-
If you're not moving around while you're playing then the bassline is probably wrong
-
You can use a compressor in many different ways to shape the dynamic envelope of the notes you play (which reach the threshold). There are so many different ways to use a compressor, I find it crazy that people think they can summarise this whole world of possibilities with statements like "it kills dynamics" - well obviously, if that's how you've set it!!

A very weird venue in Nottingham - SUMAC Centre. It was like a huge living room. The crowd seemed to love the loud punk bands so I was a bit anxious about us going on with out "folk punk" (I don't hear any punk in our music TBH) but they seemed to love us too! Very, very warm and sweaty. Good fun!

cool! We're Headsticks. I'm on drums but we have a fantastic bass player Nick Bayes -
I take the one that does the job properly, regardless of the cost. To some extent it's also regardless of looks, but I wouldn't own a bass I didn't consider to be good looking
We encountered a new one (to us) last week - a compresser limiter: crappy down-pointing speakers over the dancefloor, and a PA set to squish and compress into mush anything over 90db. We made sure the B&G were aware of the limitations before we started, so they weren't upset with us, but it was a tiptoeing nightmare. Why some venues advertise as a live venue is beyond me...well, the money, obviously, but no-one enjoys it...
Surely a limiter on the whole mix is preferable to a cut-out system? I'd have thought this would work pretty well. I guess the threshold was just set too low?

yeh a phone wouldn't be the best. I wonder if there's a BCer near you with a recording setup?

I'm playing for the first time on the Sunday. I'll not be attending the rest of the festival, way too busy in the studio What's your band called Lozz?
