I've not had loads of experience with 8x10s. I've played through about 3 different ones, Ampeg, Ashdown, Marshall, a total of about 10 times. Obviously they all sound different but are all very impressive. That said, the best sound I've ever had on stage was playing ampless with two huge 15" monitors pointing up at me. I much prefer this to the 8x10s I've tried, and would describe it as far more "punchy"... but then I do have a somewhat unusual sound

well if you've got a good audio interface there should be no difference between the sound of the tape and the sound of the tape recorded digitally. I'd have thought you'd hear some artefacts at 192kpbs though. I always go for 356 kbps
I stack the 2x10"s either way depending on how much room we have. I don't notice any real difference in the sound.
I would have thought stacking them vertically would be more likely to give you the same feeling as standing in front of an 8 x 10", as (for me) a big part of the appeal is having speakers up near your ears
2. What these analogue purists don't tell you is the reason that they like the sound so much is (just like vinyl) tape distorts in a way that the human ear finds musically pleasing. However it is changing the audio. Just because the distortion is one that most people like the sound doesn't stop it being distortion and and change in the sound that the producers of the music didn't really intend. It's not "HiFi".
Very true and this is the point on which I often end up offending "HiFi Purists" who can't accept the truth

IMO you could get there with EQ and compression and/or drive, but I think most people will disagree with me. How are you stacking the 2 x 10"s?
No, thank YOU! I won't have to have a little cry now for getting no votes on my first go, and it's all thanks to you. I love you man!
well it's very weird, which is generally a good thing with me!

could you not record it? I'd really like to hear what it sounds like

Just listened and voted. Most enjoyable, thanks all!

it is a bit weird, but then, imagine if this thread was about vinyl. I doubt post #2 would have gone down so well I have a tape player in my car and used to pick up tapes for 50p from charity shops. I have quite a few, but the more I play them, the more knackered they get

how would you rehearse your dance moves if you were playing sat down?! Doesn't make any sense

Two festivals this weekend, nothing huge but very enjoyable with plenty dancing and singing along. Something seems to have happened to my brain which has made drumming a lot easier and more fun. I wish the same would happen on bass!
-
sounds like it's quite compressed, but also it sounds like most of the high and (very) low end have been cut out so it's mostly just mids EDIT: You can hear a fair bit of dirt on their too. I love this band!!!
-
I still think the drums in general sound a bit "weak" but mastering might sort that out, well, other than the toms which don't seem to cut through at all
-
or people really just want the cash, but are willing to trade basses and play the market if they can potentially make a profit

Festival on Friday and it was ace. The mix was OK but way too loud as usual. Sound on stage was pretty mushy. The crowd were so good we really didn't care. Best gig for ages!

I had a tube screamer type pedal with a mid scooped EQ pedal, blended about 50/50 with a fuzz and EQ pedal to do the opposite, so I had a very light TS style OD on the lows and highs, but fuzz on the mids. But yeh, two dirt pedals, two EQ pedals, and an LS-2, just for one sound is a bit much.

please PM if you decide to sell!

I listened to the first track. it sounds well recorded, and I quite like the music. I think the vocals in the verses are too dry and generally sound a bit weak. Otherwise... The kick drum could be punching through a bit more, I'd personally go for a "bigger" snare sound, and probably cut back a bit on the low mids of the bass to help it breath a bit more. Have you noticed how the verses are LOADS quieter than the other sections? It's great to have dynamics but this is too much for me, quite off putting. Are you going to have this professionally mastered? If not you'll have to give it a big dollop of master compression. I'd do that anyway and see how the mix takes it. I suspect the guitars will need to come down in the louder sections It reminds me a bit of a band called Quim Finger who were fantastic

I want to replicate a complicated parallel dirt setup I used to have but can no longer be bothered to connect up, and I think this is the pedal to do it... just need to save some pennies

I'm so tempted by this. Can you do as much editing on the app as you can with the PC editor? I don't have any of the other devices you describe, but I guess I'd be able to switch patches using the app?

cool, always fancied one of these

Electric guitar through bass amp - a bad idea?
cheddatom replied to Al Krow's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've got some great guitar sounds out of bass rigs, and great bass sounds out of guitar rigs. It all depends what sort of sound you're after -
when I used to write out tab I'd mark the beats and place the numbers in the relevant positions to indicate the proper rhythm. That's how my teacher used to do it too I've often seen it written TAB but it's short for tabliture isn't it? Not an acronym

Well, I play drums in 3 bands and I can tell you I'm not the "flake" in any of them, but this thread is great for the following...
Yup all lunatics, one of my old drummers from years ago wore leather trousers for gigs so he could take a piss mid gig and it would run out the bottom like a downpipe ... Yuk.

An old band I was in once had a drummer who would appear on stage, 1-2 minutes after the rest of us, to his own intro tape.
Any more genuinely crazy drummer stories?

I play something every day, but it's usually acoustic guitar if I'm at home or drums if I'm at the studio. I have a gig on bass this weekend, we haven't rehearsed for a month, and I haven't practised anything. We'll have two 1.5 hour rehearsals this week and then the gig. I expect we'll be tight as f*ck I do play drums more regularly than anything else, but recently I've had two whole weeks off due to travelling, and I've found that I'm not better than ever. I'm playing some beats and fills I'd never thought of before, and everything is feeling easier and sounding better. Sometimes a break is good?
