1. I had a tube screamer type pedal with a mid scooped EQ pedal, blended about 50/50 with a fuzz and EQ pedal to do the opposite, so I had a very light TS style OD on the lows and highs, but fuzz on the mids. But yeh, two dirt pedals, two EQ pedals, and an LS-2, just for one sound is a bit much.
2. please PM if you decide to sell!
3. I listened to the first track. it sounds well recorded, and I quite like the music. I think the vocals in the verses are too dry and generally sound a bit weak. Otherwise... The kick drum could be punching through a bit more, I'd personally go for a "bigger" snare sound, and probably cut back a bit on the low mids of the bass to help it breath a bit more. Have you noticed how the verses are LOADS quieter than the other sections? It's great to have dynamics but this is too much for me, quite off putting. Are you going to have this professionally mastered? If not you'll have to give it a big dollop of master compression. I'd do that anyway and see how the mix takes it. I suspect the guitars will need to come down in the louder sections It reminds me a bit of a band called Quim Finger who were fantastic
4. I want to replicate a complicated parallel dirt setup I used to have but can no longer be bothered to connect up, and I think this is the pedal to do it... just need to save some pennies
5. I'm so tempted by this. Can you do as much editing on the app as you can with the PC editor? I don't have any of the other devices you describe, but I guess I'd be able to switch patches using the app?
6. cool, always fancied one of these
7. I've got some great guitar sounds out of bass rigs, and great bass sounds out of guitar rigs. It all depends what sort of sound you're after
8. when I used to write out tab I'd mark the beats and place the numbers in the relevant positions to indicate the proper rhythm. That's how my teacher used to do it too I've often seen it written TAB but it's short for tabliture isn't it? Not an acronym
9. Well, I play drums in 3 bands and I can tell you I'm not the "flake" in any of them, but this thread is great for the following...
Yup all lunatics, one of my old drummers from years ago wore leather trousers for gigs so he could take a piss mid gig and it would run out the bottom like a downpipe ... Yuk.

An old band I was in once had a drummer who would appear on stage, 1-2 minutes after the rest of us, to his own intro tape.
Any more genuinely crazy drummer stories?
10. I play something every day, but it's usually acoustic guitar if I'm at home or drums if I'm at the studio. I have a gig on bass this weekend, we haven't rehearsed for a month, and I haven't practised anything. We'll have two 1.5 hour rehearsals this week and then the gig. I expect we'll be tight as f*ck I do play drums more regularly than anything else, but recently I've had two whole weeks off due to travelling, and I've found that I'm not better than ever. I'm playing some beats and fills I'd never thought of before, and everything is feeling easier and sounding better. Sometimes a break is good?
11. I'd love to hear how this sounds, it looks ace!
12. I'm after examples which show that a pick doesn't always have to sound "picky" or as above (with the Rush example) fingers don't always have to sound "paddy"
13.
I know it's a rock example, but look upAnimate by Rush. The driving bassline sounds quite pick-like but is almost certainly Geddy flapping his index finger back and forth. (I'd provide a link but work interweb and youtube links don't mix too well, sorry!)
That's a good one!
14.
If you want jazzy there is always Steve Swallow.
Yes! That's great! Thanks
15. that Beach Boys' sound is very obviously a pick isn't it I was arguing that you can get the same sound with either technique, although obviously you could do with some EQ and compression to make a pick sound like fingers
16.
Anything with Carol Kaye or Joe Osborn playing on it.
Excuse my ignorance but do you have examples of songs?
17. outdoor gig on a bandstand on Saturday. It was OK, not loads of people. I was really impressed with the soundman though. I was chatting to my mate while we watched the band after us and we both agreed it was a great mix, and very refreshing to have it at an appropriate volume. Then some fans of ours came up and said "great set but it wasn't loud enough". I guess this is why every single venue has to have everything too loud - it's what the punters want?
18. I was debating use of picks on a bass with a friend of mine the other day. I sort of thought we'd all moved past this but anyway, to persuade him that it's acceptable I need an example of a great song with a bassline played with a pick, which isn't obviously played with a pick. I'm trying to avoid rock or country, so something jazzy or funky would be perfect. I'm quite surprised that now I'm trying to think of one, I can't. Can you help?
19. I was in Nashville last weekend. It was a bit of a whistle stop bourbon fuelled bender to be honest. I went with my brothers who aren't as into the music, but just randomly popping in to the bars on the strip we saw some great bands. I really couldn't believe the number of people out at the gigs, actually dancing and enjoying the music. It made me wonder why the hell I'm still sat here in Stoke trying to get a recording studio off the ground. The tip above to be wary of the cocktails is very wise
20.
.........is eggs
I had to google it, but sure enough it's an actual saying. My shame is eggscruciating.
21. damn, no, I'm away played there once and it was empty but for some very intimidating old blokes. I guess the atmosphere's a bit different when there's a decent act on
22. sure as eggs?!
23. outdoor sound is always going to be a compromise
24. What do you do? I've been to a few gigs recently where I'm dying to go and speak to the sound engineer about the mix but I never do it - too worried about upsetting them
25. my contents insurance covers stuff left in the car as standard. I wouldn't normally leave a bass in there, but if I've got a gig in the evening and a business meeting on the way, I'll probably not take it in with me, just try and hide it as best I can.
