1. I used to get told this when I was playing bass in a band. We took our music very seriously, rehearsed a lot, concentrated very intently on stage and never made a mistake. It felt great, but the sheer concentration definitely showed on my face Now I'm a bit more experienced I realise that no-one will notice little mistakes. I take it a lot less seriously and I enjoy it a lot more. Consequently I smile
2. It's not as though I was in the throws of the mosh, I was on the edge, and clearly not participating. I was happily fending off the odd bounce, and was nearly knocked over a few times, but that's all fine and to be expected. For someone to grab me from behind and throw me to the floor is nothing like I've seen before, but I have seen other examples of "crowd killing" at local venues. There's a couple of guys I often see swinging their arms around way too close to the people on the edge, and they inevitably hit someone, usually an unsuspecting girl, and then her boyfriend usually kicks off and a large fight ensues etc etc. I'm sick of it!
3.
I would've walked away and dialed 999. As I said, it's assault plain and simple. I'd be happier a f***-nut like this is properly dealt with than any short term satisfaction of retaliation. Can I ask why you did not consider calling the Police?
Never even crossed my mind! Not sure why
4.
I would have just kicked the sh*t out of him.
Fair enough! I'm not sure that would have guaranteed a positive outcome. Anyway, it's pretty disorientating. One minute you're standing watching a band, ear plugs in, head nodding. The next minute there's a pain in your arm and your head and then some people are pulling you to your feet and then you're back where you started except your girlfriend is glaring at some small dude running around over the other side of the room.

6.
I remember once I was in a mosh And some kid was headbanging.. I headbanged too and some how we got synchronised.. I basically head butted him and he dropped to the ground I tried to pick him back up but the section was far too hot Lost him in the depths of the mosh I don't think I killed him... Maybe someone else picked him up or he got up somewhere else in the mosh Good gig though.
That was a forgiveable accident, but the guy I'm on about just randomly grabbed me by the arm and threw me to the ground I'm a bit freaked out as to why he picked me out as he didn't grab anyone else. I really should have spoken to him afterwards but I was a bit angry and thought it might have ended badly
7. I used to want kick drum in the monitor, but then I started playing in small pubs without a PA and this highlighted how quiet my kicking was compared to the rest of my kit. I saw that as my own failing and practised until my bass drum was the loudest part of the kit, which is how it should be IMO
8. I was picked up by the others immediately, but unfortunately there was nothing to stop me falling hard and hitting my head on the floor, which is when the real damage can happen
9. I went to see Raketkanon and Heck on Tuesday night at the Star & Garter in Manchester. It was absolutely amasing. I've seen them both before but I really love Raketkanon, and Heck are always fun to watch. Anyway, I knew it was going to be a mad gig with lots of "moshing" etc. and I don't mind that. I was there for a good 2.5 hours of music and got bashed about lots at the edge of the pit, and I'm used to that. At the end of the night though, one guy seemed to get totally carried away swinging his arms around. I've seen this before and some people call it "crowd killing" which is when people deliberately try to hurt other members of the crowd. This guy in particular grabbed me by the arm from behind and pulled me to the floor. I bashed my head pretty badly and I've hurt my knee badly too. It'll be fine in a couple of days but... I've not long recovered from a head injury which really brought home how fragile we are. This guy obviously never considered it, but knocking someone to the floor could cause brain damage or even death, as could a punch from his swinging arms. So, I don't know if there any "crowd killers" among us, but if there are, could you stop it please?
10. the sticks/brushes/hot rods thing - I can make hotrods easily as loud as sticks, and I can make sticks as quiet as brushes. It's not the easiest thing to learn but surely most gigging drummers can play quietly?
11. The last gig I played on bass, I was stood right over my amp, and the soundman had me turned down so low I actually couldn't hear what I was playing. Apparently the sound was perfect out front (it was a very small room, quiet audience) so I was happy. I just had to trust that I knew how to play the songs. Regarding drums - I play a lot of gigs on drums and I've never had to resort to hot-rods, I just don't hit the drums as hard. The big one is the crash cymbal or open hats which can get very piercing if I get carried away. I put ear plugs in for the loud gigs (big room and PA) and don't wear them for the quiet little pubs, so if I play too loud, it hurts. It's like my own sound level meter. Everyone else in this band just keeps to a sensible level over the drums, so we really don't care if we get a soundcheck or not. If it's one where you're asked to turn up 5 hours before playing to check, I'll decline and just wing it.
12. I'll often play higher up the neck than needs be for the tone of it
13. I wish the sound was better, it looks like he's amasing but I can't hear him!
14. great news!
15. I love thumb picks for bass. Best of luck with the gig anyway!
16. when you use both pickups on the rickenbacker does it not behave as a humbucker? I'm not familiar with that bass, sorry Maybe a power conditioner would be a solution?
17. if your fender is silent on both pickups, then the rickenbacker should be too. I'd try to fix the bass rather than buy a noise gate/suppressor In terms of your list, I only have the NS-2, which is a great gate, but won't get rid of hum while you're playing
18. I play in bands for fun, money, networking opportunities etc. The music I really want to make I do in the studio, on my own, and generally show no-one
19. another 3 last week, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Thursday was the busiest! But they were all well attended. Again 45min original sets and they'll have us back. The "scene" is alive and kicking!
20. My only "claim to fame" stories are really lame. Some people find them impressive but I think that's a bit sad! Anyway, I really don't care about that stuff. There's no way I could stop writing and recording music
21. is that you on drums? Very cool
22. nice bass sound!
23. Just listening on soundcloud. It sounds like there's some overdrive on the bass in the heavier sections, and it works really well. The Darkglass is certainly flavour of the month but it is what almost everyone is using at the moment. Any sort of sansamp dealie would be OK, but I think you're looking for a pedal to turn on and off, rather than an "always on" as there are some cleaner sections.
24. It's true that this is "common knowledge" but I have a woolly mammoth clone that's fine with my active basses. Not sure if it's different to the standard model
