1. Hacktivist last night at Rainbow Venues in Digbeth. It's a really cool venue. I played there last year and loved it, except the sound was rubbish. Hacktivist brought their own sound guy and it was awesome! Best I've seen them yet
2. I have loads of digital pedals and I've never noticed any at all!
3. I played two pubs this weekend. Both small affairs but both paying good money for 2 x 45min sets of original music. Both will have us back. The live scene is not dying IME
4. You can get some pretty realistic sounds now, it might be worth investigating? But it sort of suits the style in a way
5. can you post a sample of it each way?
6.
...First choice is a Rode NT1A...
It's a great all-round mic
7. IMO if you can hear the chorus effect, then you've over done it. You can use chorus very effectively as a subtle "thickener" Why everyone in the 80s used one on fretless bass, I have no idea!
8. you could use the headphone outputs, they should work, but yeh, you'd be better with a proper interface
9. Just listened to them all, this is very difficult! I won't go on about who I'm voting for but just wanted to say, Bilbo, ‘Motion Capture’ is ace! I loved the groove from the start and the lead playing along with the trumpet sound is perfect on top! Very impressive
10. Are ashdown really inviting us for tea oreo having us on? I'd better get there before it's all scone!
11. What I wouldn't give for such an invite. Visog is such a jammie dodger!
12. When you go to visit the Ashdown factory can you take photos? Or do they make you sign a wafer?
13. So are you saying it came up shortbread? That's ginger nuts! For that sort of money you want the cream of the custard creams!
14. so what do you reckon Visog, are you going to go hob-nobbing with Ashdown? Or did you decide that your frustrations took the biscuit?
15. I'd go for something cheap and different to your current collection. If it's cheap, you'll never be tempted to sell it on
16. what a great offer! Although you could provide the chocolate biscuits
17. I see loads of youths at metal and indie gigs. Hardly any at the the punk and folk gigs. There are probably loads more if you go to electronica-grimestep-dubcore gigs
18.
i've been in bands with people who wont play certain venues because they are not as perfect as others. that's not a lack of venues, it's a lack of wanting to play them. If you want to play you will find a way of getting a gig and getting people there
Ahh, I know the sort, always calling up the venue ahead of time, insisting that they hire out a bunch of DB wedges
19. I used to take a 1 x 15" peavey bass combo, and a 2 x 12" guitar combo to all my gigs, and some of these were smaller pubs. I never had a problem or anyone laughing. I would often be complimented on the sound in fact! EDIT: Back on topic, the DI output from your head will be at line-level, so it'd be best to put it into the return of the 2nd amp. However, if you wanted to use separate EQ on the 2nd amp, and you didn't want to take a splitter of some kind (most tuners have 2 outputs) then you could get away going from the DI on the 1st amp into the input on the 2nd. You'd just have to have the input gain pretty low
20. Still the same in Stoke-on-Trent, pretty good
21. I'm always looking for effects pedals and microphones. I'm pretty sure I can justify that and it's nothing to do with GAS The only times I've really suffered are when I've absolutely "fallen for" a bass and I just have to have it. The last one was about 6 years ago. I looked at this bass and the price drops on here for about 6 months before I finally bought it. So yeh, I think I'm GAS free, but it's probably more to do with my available funds than self control
22. I guess the tone of bass is too bassy, so on any system lacking bass you can't really hear it, and on any system with plenty of bass you just get the boominess. More mids might help. For the drums, some compression, and then maybe a boost at 5KHz or so for more presence. I always like a cut somewhere between 500 and 900Hz on the full kit
23. ace! Can't wait to hear the full version
24. Good tips from Dad there. The bass is almost inaudible and the drums are quite muffled, so if you get them right first you'll be on the right track. The whole thing just needs a bit more "space". I'd cut the guitar out or way down for sections. Even if the guitar amp is bleeding on the drum mics it'll still sound better.
