more strings would mean you don't have to slide about as much. I'd love a short scale 6 string but whenever I search for one all I find are baritone guitars EDIT: That wasn't very helpful. I'm not sure what the negatives would be against short scale basses. I love them!

Reading through the 6 points this thread is based on, I think 1,3,5 and 6 have always been true. People are all different, and some people like to play the bass at home, and always have. I have no idea what 2 and 4 are based on. There are loads of good gigging opportunities in the UK. There is a growing trend of pubs and venues closing, but I'm not sure that this is "too many", and the opportunities are nowhere near "drying up". As far as gigging becomming less popular... I just don't get what it's based on. Probably posts on basschat, which is far from a representative sample. Loads of the posts here are rants from people in a bad mood, loads more are bitterly sarcastic, so there's no way to get a real sense of the reality of musicians' life in the UK from basschat.

I absolutely hate the enhancer on this pedal. It's great as a limiter. Do you have the compressor on your amp turned on? If so that could explain the "delay" you're hearing (two compressors both with a fast attack pushed pretty hard would slow the attack of the envelope significantly)

I started on 4 string but got a 6 string after a year (playing 15 years now). Now I have 3 6 strings and my only 4 string is out of action. I have no problem with the size of the neck or any confusion due to the extra strings, so as it's no compromise I might as well have the extra flexibility

A rare outing on bass for me on Saturday. Good turnout, exceptional sound on stage - I've been going ampless (DI to monitors) for the last few gigs and it's so good I doubt I'll ever use an amp again!

I'm also in an original band that makes money and gigs 3-4 times per month (on average). I'm only 31 but the other 3 are over 45

A few threads have gone this way recently. Are we really saying that we can no longer have threads about negative opinions? I didn't mind the OP on this thread. It was obviously a little provocative, but he was just frank with his opinion. If I started a thread along the lines "Jazz Fusion- pretentious bollocks" with a similarly frank OP, I think that'd be OK, wouldn't it? We've had it before with "Rap is Crap" etc. Obviously there are styles of music people won't like, and gigs people won't like, and basses people won't like etc. That's not actually a problem is it? Or do we need to wipe any trace of negativity from BC?

Same as above, I have pedals from all price ranges. Having said that, if I was buying a compressor, I would want one with more controls than the CS-3

my mate uses the stage legend one for his acoustic guitar and we've never had a problem
