...It surprises me that UPS via InterParcel will deliver to all sorts of places all over the world, but bring to get them to take a parcel to anywhere in Scotland other than Edinburgh or Glasgow or any UK island is completely futile.
If you deal with UPS directly I'm sure they'll sort it out Alternatively if you know someone who works at a company that ships goods out all the time, they would sort it out for you. I'm a bit far away, but I always ship stuff on the company account with whichever courier, and just pay the company back

They should all go to "highlands & islands" but just charge more? UPS, FedEx, UK Mail, Parcel Force etc all do it If it's too big you could put it on a pallet - depends if it's worth the expense
However, the important question is: is this technical director hot?

...People are mesmerised by him ( flash guy)...
A flash drummer can be ace to watch, and it's not just musicians watching. Obviously it depends on the music, but I do think that "overplaying" is more acceptable on drums in a live situation than most other instruments. Obviously in the studio it's less entertaining and can get in the way
Fixed..?
well yes, clearly everyone should make time for a little drumming
-
The more instruments the better!
Yeah! Although if you want to be a virtuoso it's probably best to focus on one

some all day punk festival. We're what's known as "folk punk" which I guess is music with a traditional melody and angry lyrics. The other bands were pretty heavy punk. I don't really understand why they booked us but we still seemed to go down OK The sound on stage was just awful. Feedback through the entire set. I had ear plugs in so just kept playing but I know the other guys were struggling. No idea what the sound man was thinking/hearing

If I was promoting some cymbals, and there was already a drum part on the backing track, I'd go absolutely mental with fills, and I'd probably go out of time slightly because I'd be pushing myself to the limits of my ability, just to show off. I'd never do that in a band situation (although one of my bands makes me show off and it's definitely difficult to go mad and stay in time)

Great customer service from TC Electronic
cheddatom replied to Jenny_Innie's topic in General Discussion
Sorry, didn't mean to imply I was offended, just wanted to offer some balance. It is excellent customer service from TC and I'm glad they managed to sort out the OP -

I would really like them if it wasn't for that twatt!

The Foo Fighters - are they THAT good?
cheddatom replied to spectoremg's topic in General Discussion
no, the "formulaic" music is quite different to the first album. The formula wasn't yet formed, so the first album is not a sample of the pattern IMO -
...Where are the drugs...
Didn't there drummer have a long problem with heroin? An overdose or two I think I do think the first album is really good, and not particularly "formulaic" -

first album was ace, 2nd ok, downhill from there. I saw them live once and got absolutely sick of it, and this was while I was actually a fan. They kept repeating sections of songs while dave ran around, letting his fans touch him etc. It seems to me that they then took this approach to arrangement. It's now verse, chorus, verse, chorus chorus chorus chorus chorus chorus chorus chorus... -
That's not because of the compression though, it's because you're such a tasteful and sensitive player...
Heh, not with my current band, the opposite in fact! EDIT: I suppose my previous point was that people often say "compression is for levelling out differences in volume" and IMO it's not at all. It's for modifying the transient envelope of your notes. You can use compression, and still have control over your "dynamics", depending on what you mean by that

Thinking of a Rig Upgrade - but looking for advice
cheddatom replied to Budaman's topic in Amps and Cabs
running two separate rigs at the same time can be incredible, I'm not sure this can be replicated with just one. I'd go for a stereo power amp into two cabs, and keep your pedals as they are. A stereo rack EQ might help emulate some of the voicing that your amp heads are doing. But yeh, I think the main weight saving will be with the cabs, maybe just get two decent light weight cabs and keep the pedals and heads -
what do people mean by dynamics? Sometimes people mean they can go louder (for a chorus compared to a verse, for example) where sometimes people are talking about the attack of their notes in milliseconds I use parallel compression, about 50/50, and very squishy. I get complimented on my sound every time I play bass (not very often!)
-
you might as well get a bit of overdrive built in there SFX are great, I have the split/mix pedal and it's ace
-
yes, good point, a few of the local venues round here will have the first act on at 7 or 7:30, which is just about doable for the local fans, but not really for anyone travelling
-
I usually get to gigs right at the start and haven't noticed this. If anything the crowd tends to thin out for the headline act on a local multi-band gig. Are you going to big "name" gigs or to small local gigs?
I don't want to rely on effected sounds, but here's a graphical representation of what I'm trying to schieve L ----------------0000--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------R loop layer 1 L ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------0000--------------------------R loop layer 2 L -------------------------------------------------------0000-----------------------------------------------------R loop layer 3 make sense? the gig rig is autopanning, I want each layer to be static in the stereo field, thanks for your thoughts tho
Ahh, I see, well, I thought the chopper could do this but after a bit more reading I'm wrong. There is however the Ernie Ball 6165 Stereo Volume/Pan Pedal which should do what you want
-
I'm a little confused as to what you need. Surely the looper will output stereo even if you on;y have a mono input, but then why would you want a stereo output with no stereo effects on it? The normal one would be a stereo chorus set subtly to create a difference between the two sides. Anyway, in case it's any use, check out this pedal which I've lusted after for years http://www.gig-fx.com/products/chopper/

When you've taken your bass playing as far as it gonna go?
cheddatom replied to kevvo66's topic in General Discussion
You guys....stop worrying about being bass heroes. Just write something you like, arrange it with your band and experience joy.
This is my approach really. The only time I get technically better at the bass is when I write something I can't play, so I then I have to practise until I can. -
yes, take an effects send or pre-amp out from your amp, and plug this into a line input in your focusrite interface You might want to experiment with VST amp sims inside your DAW though
-
Yeh I guess some of it was hardcore, or at least somethingcore anyway I don't get the dancing, but fair enough in the middle of an open space. It's the way they were running right into the crowd who were clearly trying to avoid them that I don't get.
