1. It sounds like you're after a very low gain subtle sort of dirt, so there's pretty much zero risk of damaging your rig Try over driving the pre-amp on your amp first, see how it sounds. The jackhammer is a very versatile pedal though, you might like it!
2. I love playing smaller venues, but I don't think I've ever actually been scared of the audience at a gig. Maybe that's because I'm always with a band and we'll back each other up? I've played some places that I'd be very intimidated by if I walked in for a pint, but didn't bother me when gigging. Weird
3. Deerstock festival. We were on the back of a lorry. We watched a band play some covers on the big fancy stage, then we did our (original) thing on the lorry, then watched some more covers on the big stage... What's that about? Anyway, we went down well and it was a lovely festival
4. I'm in a band with a couple of really good mates. When one of them starts talking, I like to play funky slap bass at extreme volumes. It winds him up. His counter is to play metallica very, very badly, at even more extreme volumes. It stops me pretty quick, then we have our discussion. Surely there's something he hates so much you can just play it at full whack every time he annoys you?
5. some bands need to do the same old stuff. This might be because of the venues they play and their clientèle or landlord/ladys. This could be dictated by the location of the band and their willingness to travel. It could be dictated by how well the band promote themselves and in what way. It may be because of the nature of the show they put on. However, it's a fact that originals bands can, and do, entertain a room full of people, and get paid for doing so.
6. I disagree on the tone! Very punchy sound, and very responsive to EQ/pedals
7. downer I've never tried mine with a different amp, (although I do tend to bypass the pre-amp these days) so I'm interested to see what you think
8. Obviously each act is different, and some will be known for performing certain covers. All I know is that I was in an originals band that could entertain a whole pub for a night without being asked for mustang sally, and I'm in an originals band at the moment which can do the same.
9. much like the constant rotation of music in pubs and on radio2
10.
It was all coming from the combo. I was going to try and use my F1 but in the end the tone i was hearing (with everything flat) was just perfect. Of course this was in a dead sounding rehearsal room. Back there tomorrow night with a 5 string, just to see what it can do. I did try and lift it and, well, its not something i would consider buying. Its not un manageable but the days of me carrying something that heavy around is long gone (unless you count the bloody PA and guitar amps i still have to carry:)
I personally think that the pre-amp makes more tonal difference than the power amp or the cab, therefore if you're trying to replicate that TNT sound, you probably need a similar pre-amp for starters. You never know, a different pre-amp in front of your current rig might give you the sound you want
11.
So we can all stop playing Mustang Sally, Brown Eyed Girl, Summertime , Autumn Leaves etc and still get regular work?...
Yes, if you can entertain a room full of people, and you charge within the current market rate what I'm saying is that it's possible to entertain a room full of people, and please a landlord, without playing the same old covers
12. I absolutely love my TNT 15" combo. I wonder how much of the sound you love is coming from the speaker, and how much from the amp? Or are you plugging your own pre-amp into the effects return on the peavey?
13. I'm reminded of my old band The Premature Ejaculators. The music was raucous, and the lyrics were far too offensive to be enjoyed by anyone civilised, and yet whenever we played, we went down a storm. The only cover was "love comes in spurts" ...So I think Bilbo is right in that people ARE ready to experience something different, you just have to do it in the right way. Maybe it's just easier to engage people if you're playing the radio 2 playlist?
14. "...individual" implies you'd rather post an insult, which is rude Anyway, I play in an original folk(ish) band. We're not doing so many pubs now but we did for the last year or two. We never had a problem entertaining a pub packed with drinkers. I'm sure they'd normally be getting their "sex on fire" etc but as long as you put on a good show and engage with the audience, they will go with you IME
15. I think he's written some great songs, but I wouldn't listen to them. I don't really know why people think he's an arse, but it's probably justified. I caught most of this program while I was in the car and I thought he came across as really nice and quite clever
16. I don't know sorry, I think they're a bit "before my time". I watched one song then f***ed off. It's not my kind of music but each to their own
17.
Yes, definitely a live act. Like the albums, but they are in another league live IMO. Where did you play with them?
Middlewich FAB Festival. It's a fairly local festival but pulls quite a crowd. They had us on again this year with Lindisfarne as the headline. Not my cup of tea!
18.
Posted about Moulettes on here before, stunning live band.
I played with them last year and they were so good I bought the album. I found it disappointing, lacking the energy of the live band. I think it might have been a different bunch of musicians in the studio
19. I play acoustically at home. I wonder why more people don't play unplugged?
20. I really like it. How does the mains charging thing work? Never heard of that before
21.
...If you played that loud at a pub you'd be asked to leave!
Really? I don't see a lot of live music in pubs, but whenever I do, it's far too loud
22.
Clearsonic do some good kit. Available through Thomann. http://www.thomann.d...=&sw=clearsonic
These are interesting - is there something special about this plastic? Some sort of acoustic science going on?
23. I doubt you're going to be able to solve this one An obvious solution would be an electric kit and IEMs which he could turn up to deafening levels for himself while you have the volume control on the output of his kit.
