1. yes, some sort of epoxy resin. I guess it's possible to have them replicated but it'll be so expensive... I'll be a bit more patient waiting for the korean dudes to get back to me. If I can't get them, or it's dead expensive, I'll get some of those australian ones, see how it goes
2. Long term get faster with your fingers, short term get an EQ pedal I use both almost equally, depends what sound I'm after
3. The guy at the shop says they both say "neck" on the bottom, as though both pickups are the same. They do sound totally different but I guess that's just the positioning. Good advice to be a bit more patient
4. I didn't think they'd deal directly but was hoping they'd put me on to a dealer or someone who could help
5. Well, no-one in Korea is getting back to me, and Proel (who distribute Cort in the UK) say they can't get single G&B pickups I'll try EMG and their dealers but I guess that'll be the same Any other ideas? I thought finding the right pickup would be the hardest part, but now I've found them, I can't buy them!
6. Loads, yes, but the one that comes immediately to mind is the theme from The Arches
7. I had it in rehearsal the other day. The rehearsal rig was farting out as our bassist had raised the lowest slider on the graphic EQ to the max. I asked him to cut it to minimum, and the only difference was that everything was immediately clearer, and the amp/cab stopped distorting. Despite this, everyone else in the band agreed that it was no longer bassy enough, and that the slider (30Hz I think) had to go back to the top. I guess this is how rehearsal rigs get knackered.
8. Down to £140 This is a 16 channel USB audio interface. 8 mic pres, 2 guitar inputs, 4 line inputs, and stereo SPDIF. It's in full working order. I've not got pics at the moment but happy to take some. It's been racked since I had it but probably has a couple of scratches. It looks just like this: All the info is here: http://tascam.com/product/us-1800/ I've not got the box or manual. You can get the manual online and it'll be well packed if you want me to ship. Otherwise collection from Stoke-on-Trent I'm not 100% sure on the price, if you have any thoughts on that please PM
9. Bought some strings from Chris, couldn't have gone better. He even rushed them out for me!
10. wow, just checked out nuenaber thanks to your pic - very cool!
11. get a long lead and play about with the mixer while you listen to the PA? The EQ settings on the desk would probably need to be different for each venue
12. Well I used to think it was just snare and cymbals, but after a couple of gigs on drums I started to notice how variable it is! Now I take everything except the toms and kick drum.
13. Surely that's the one? I can't see a difference in the pole spacing? Thanks so much for that link, hopefully they'll sell me some
14. Thanks Ikay. I've been digging a little more and found that they're a B118S... http://wolf3.en.ec21.com/Pickups_-G_B--2812992_6839471.html I've tried to contact them from that page so hopefully they'll sell me some!
15. Just had this reply from the guy who made it! I wasn't expecting to hear anything. I've never heard of G&B pickups - anyone know where you can buy them?
Those pickups are G&B six string Jazz bass pickups. They are made in Korea. I think there are other pickup companies making Ng that style now but when I made that guitar G&B was the only company. That guitar is probably about 7 years old. 16. Hmm, I could potentially get around that, but I'd have to wait months for them. Still, they are within my budget, and I have other basses to play in the mean time
17. they look very promising, thanks! Not heard of Pure Tone before, can't find many reviews
18. they are certainly weird, if not custom. You get pickups with exposed pole pieces, but they don't have the slotted screw head thing. The Delanos look to be the right size (thanks ikay), but it says they're humbuckers. I always guessed mine are single coil, although I don't actually know. I imagine this would make a significant difference tonally? I'm also concerned about how they'll match up to the pre-amp. I do have a multi meter but have no idea what sort of readings I should be taking
19. I have a pretty weird bass, bought off here 4 years ago. It has some unusual pickups. The pickups have now gone totally microphonic and cannot be re-potted. I really love the sound of the bass but I don't know what the pickups are, or what the pre-amp is. I've put some photos here in the hope someone can help The luthier was John Marshall Custom Guitars. I can't find any mention of him since 2012, and his website has been down since then too Failing that, do you reckon most of the sound comes from the pickups? Or maybe the actual bass and it's pre-amp have more influence? In which case, what standard pickups could I put in?
20. I have a yamaha drop 6, it's ace! Not sure on the tuning, it's like a normal guitar but the lowest string is a low A. It sounds lovely!
21. I have all sorts and never notice a difference switching between them, other than the sound and number of strings available. I also play a lot of guitar. Never noticed a problem?! Maybe I'm just not good enough to notice
22.
Our drummer once walked onto the stage, stepped onto the riser, lent onto the curtain covered wall behind the stage to steady himself and discovered that the curtain covered wall was actually just a curtain. It took us a good couple of minutes to rescue him
Haha, that's actually happened to me on drums. They should be a barrier up or something! I often shift backwards on my stool while playing and if the back leg slips off stage 'cos I didn't realise there was no wall behind the curtain, it's painful!!
23. I break my nails every time I pluck the bass too hard. Sometimes it gets a bit sore
