1. Arrrgh just lost a long post.... I used to use a Tascam unit like this: http://www.thomann.de/gb/tascam_16x08.htm and would recommend it! Now I use MOTU. The Tascam lasted for years but started to glitch. I think it was probably more to do with the USB bus on my PC. The MOTU unit I have now is PCIe so I don't have experience of them over USB
2. ooops! Don't know how I missed that, sorry EDIT: I'm not keeping track but have noticed a few likes coming through, so thanks!
3. USB 3 should be quicker than firewire though I think?
4.
56 likes given and 8 received - not a great ratio so far
Are you talking about the link in your sig? If so it's not in the list so I hadn't liked it, but have just done so
5.
...hobby...
The cat is among the pigeons!
6.
the only tones people seem to video are the really bright, Geddy-esque types...
If you play your electric bass acoustically it's pretty bright. That's how I practice so it's how I like to sound amped up too
7. ahh, that's why it's in twice on the list! Thanks
8.
Yes, yes he does - hence my 'somewhere between the..' comment I added. Instead of using dampening in the drum I moved mine to the batter head. I couldn't remember the name of the head but I see that Moos3h mentioned the EMAD head and I believe that's the one! So yes, the foam ring does indeed have the same effect that a jumper does resting up against the head. However I think that there is a train of thought that a rolled up jumper, pillow, blanket or coat has additional 'dampening qualities' inside the drum (As do professional damping products.) My own kit didn't seem to need it but that's by no means an indicator of what is right or wrong, just my experience with this particular kit.
Cool, those EMAD heads look ace, might have to get one!
9. yep, I do it all for the buzz
10. How did Headsticks make it on there twice?! Not that I'm complaining!
11.
Sorry cheddatom, I should have qualified my statement. This was never in a conventional rock setting.
What sort of music does this sound suit? I play in a reggae band and a folk band (as well as a rock band) and I feel I get much more "punch" without the front head and with some dampening. Without dampening it's just too wild
12.
Hmmm! - My own kit I'd use no dampening inside the bass drum. My tuning was somewhere between the Bob Gatzen method and something a drumming friend showed me. Using Evans heads with the foam dampening ring on...
I guess your foam ring has a similar effect to the small jumper I have pushed against the head. I've watched Bob Gatzen's videos and he always seems to use some form of dampening on the kick?
13.
This is where it gets contentious - the best drummers I have played with didn't use ported kick drums (nor did they have damping on their drums either).
Fair enough to prefer no port, but no dampening?!? Surely a kick drum sounds sh*te with no dampening? I'll have to try this
14. Never had a problem micing a kick without a hole Having said that I prefer the sound of a mic inside the drum, for which a hole is essential I leave the front (or back?) head off my kick drums as I prefer that "slap" sound
15. I met a young band recently. I was trying to persuade them to get out and gig, but all they want to do is work on their set!
16. I have a band for professionalism and money, and 3 bands for fun. I'd like some of the fun bands to gig more, but I don't get frustrated about it. I just like to play!
17. I don't mind a curry standing up
18. I run all my pedals through the barge concepts dealie as I use the feedback loop a lot, so lack of blend wasn't an issue for me. With the tone knob at 11AM and less it seems to retain plenty of low end anyway
19. Barge concepts blender/feedback thing but I'll do some samples un-blended. I should have chance to do it on Friday
20. It's easy for me. I switched from playing bass to drums, and I'm now removed from view
I have no bum, I'm so skinny. If I did this, I'd look like a boomerang. That's just a throwaway comment.
I'm surprised there's been no come-back to this
21. Phew, that took a while, just liked you all! My studio is here: https://www.facebook.com/RiffFactoryUK And my bands: https://www.facebook.com/Creepjoint https://www.facebook.com/head.sticks https://www.facebook.com/DirtyMoneyNo5
22. Just wanted to say that I got the pedal from Crowella just before christmas and having used it a couple of times can confirm that it's absolutely ace! I'll post some samples ASAP
23. Just received an amp from Horatio Bass. The deal went smoothly and I'm extremely impressed with the packaging. 10/10
