Digital compression to reduce file size is nothing to do with dynamic compression Digital formats have the potential for at least as much dynamic range as vinyl Mp3s don't have to sound bad Having said all that, I was going to link to soundcloud to prove my point, but the extra compression they do when you upload a track really kills it. You can hear all manner of artifacts in the high frequencies.

[/quote] They're not that primitive... having said that, for a band that wants to seem professional, we've only just started using set lists after 15 months gigging on the hoof.

I had one in a mix the other day. I could hear it with every channel playing, but it wasn't there on any of the individual channels. Clearly it was something made up from the sum of the parts. I had to replace that section on every channel with an identical section from later in the song (only half a second at the most) as it annoyed me so much

[/quote] I don't care, I just turn up, play the drums, take the money, and spend it at the bar on the actual subject, I used to use notes I'd made for this band, but I'd done it on my phone. I was banned from using my phone as the audience apparently thought I was texting while on stage, so I had to substitute it for a creased up bit of paper. It seemed strange to me that a tatty bit of paper seemed more professional than a sleek black gadget!

sound check? Warm up? Sounds like a nightmare to me. If I walk into a pub and the band are setting levels I just turn around and walk away. I can't deal with that level of unprofessionalism, stands or no stands.

I've been using my HH VS 2 x 12" guitar combo for bass and it does sound lovely. I've been using a pedal for dirt, but maybe I'll try driving it a bit more The best built-in-dirt I ever played was a fairly modern marshal MB 2 x 10" combo. It has two channels which you could blend, and I used this to create a great dirty sound. I've never heard anyone say a nice word about these amps, and it did die fairly quickly, but it was a monster sound!

Can I get this on CD? Can't seem to find much info about a physical release

I switched from guitar after 8 years of guitar lessons so it was pretty easy I've recently been bought a cello and I've been trying to teach myself. It's driving me f***ing nuts! I forgot how hard it was all those years ago. It's all about having the determination to stick with it. Easier when there's a teacher to tell you off every week!

would you not just swap the hardware yourself and get someone to spray the headstock?

There's so much pseudo science spouted about flooring. Gramma pads?!? Why the hell would you want to loose all that tone?! I only play in venues with mahogany floor boards. If there's carpet, I don't mind, as long as it's red.
