1. does it go when you turn the pedal off? Or just lessen? If it's the latter, then yeh, grounding in your bass I think
2.
I never watch TV ads, I record everything then skip through them, I'd like to thank everybody that does though, they help provide my programmes for nothing (apart from the Beeb ones obviously)
Actually I wonder how many people really watch ads. There's no way of knowing how many people are actually watching an ad. Companies just take a calculated guess that an ad at X time on X channel will get X views. They don't know how this is converted into revenue. I'd like to thank the sales people at channel 4 for keeping the channel alive, and all the people in marketing departments that keep buying the ads. They help provide my programmes for nothing
3. I don't care about my appearance, but I do wear T-shirts that fit With my folk band, 3 of the other members feel that image is very important, and we've gone with the very creative style of "all black". I wear a black t-shirt and sometimes will bother with black trousers. All my jeans are blue and I've not been able to find a pair of black jeans for less than £20.
4.
how the transformer transmits the sound through.
Can you expand on that at all? After reading this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturation_%28magnetic%29 I'm going to guess it's effectively a form of compression
5. I actually find playing gently with (wooden) hot rods is louder than playing gently with sticks Being able to drum quietly is very, very difficult to learn IME. I was at an acceptable and gigging standard of drumming for years - no complaints at all! But only since I learned to play quietly have I starting to think I'm getting good.
6. What is low frequency magnetic saturation?
7. Getting rid of a TV won't get rid of adverts. You'd have to stop watching anything online by channel 4, plus youtube and the rest. You might enjoy the self satisfaction you get from telling others you have no TV though
8. oh balls. I forgot to check back on this! Let me know if it falls through
9. I would go with the sound from the interface, but as always, check it on as many systems as you can. What do you normally listen to music on? Compare your mixes on that set-up vs something you like the sound of
10. If you've never done originals before I'd definitely go for that. Then, decide what you want on the side. A bit of fun while you wait around for the right singer? Or a bunch of gigs that probably pay
11. Shep above is good, I reckon I'm pretty good too. Similar rates etc. www.rifffactory.co.uk for more info
12. is the mid mod switchable?
13. I know of several musicians whoa re so good I'm sure they could do it for their day job, but they'd rather just keep it as a hobby and do it for free. Saying that good players won't play for free is a bit insulting
14. The closest I've got to a double bass sound is with flats, playing with my thumb over the fingerboard, and I think it was on the bridge pickup with lots of highs rolled off. I would guess a compressor set with a very slow attack may also help Oh, and fretless if you want to be able to do that slidey mwahey thing people go on about
15. It's difficult to tell from just words, but the first thing I noticed is that you're happy when playing higher up the neck, but not lower down, and this is probably because the octaver either can't track those notes, or can't produce the notes an octave below. A clean blend could be very useful (I always use one) but it's not necessarily what you need.
16. I'd just wire two cables to one footswitch. I wouldn't want to advise you to do that though as I don't have the electronics expertise to guarantee it won't blow something up.
17. I gave it a listen last night, it's ace! Some really cool sounds. It makes me want to bring my pedals back home to play them like I used to. It's not as fun in the studio, I always get distracted by the drum kit etc. Anyway, yeh, I will be listening again. I think I'll buy the download 'cos bandcamp kept cutting in and out last night
18. I see, I'd misunderstood what you were after. I wonder if some fairly heavy compression on a high pass filter would be what you need? It'd bring out all the natural harmonics from your bass. Then just blend this with the clean signal. That's how I do it in the studio anyway
19. Oh god I'm so confused now. If only my mind were to automatically colour code all the basschat posts for me!
20.
My understanding is that it's not in your vision, it's in your "mind's eye". Certainly, when I think about weekdays or the days and months of the year, I "see" them laid out as two different 3D doughnut shapes in my minds eye, but nothing appears in my actual vision.
So you don't just "see" colours, but shapes as well? Do different genres have different shapes? Maybe genres are colours and sub-genres are shapes, in which case, what's Deathdoom-core?
21.
All of those are factors, but moreso genre. Funk is red and sonetimes orange Pop is white. Techno is pink and can be white. Country is yellow. Metal is predictably black and grey. Rap is green!
Fascinating! Are you like Arthur Henry and just somehow feel that these genres are these colours? Or do you genuinely see the colours as some sort of tint on your vision?
22.
I believe you may have a form of synthesia. I have it, and it manifests by me seeing colours when I hear music. I like music which 'is' black, red, orange or purple, but I dislike music which is white, pink or yellow. Some music is genuinely white with brown chequers, and that's the worst. I've only ever told a couple of people about it up until now, for fear of ridicule, but after reading that it's an actual 'thing' I'm a lot happier to discuss it. I swear I'm not making this up, nor do I take drugs.
I've read a lot about this in the past. I'd be interested in what kind of music is what colour? Could you specify by genre? Or key? Or beat? etc
23. would you not just use a pitch shifter/harmoniser like a whammy or EHX POG?
24. Right, OK, so you'd be better off with an "isolated brick" PSU rather than daisy chain? I spoke to an expert* once who told me it'd be less noisy to have all my pedals on one daisy chain *an electronics dude who builds all the custom stuff for Magic Garden studio
