1. Shep above is good, I reckon I'm pretty good too. Similar rates etc. www.rifffactory.co.uk for more info
2. I know of several musicians whoa re so good I'm sure they could do it for their day job, but they'd rather just keep it as a hobby and do it for free. Saying that good players won't play for free is a bit insulting
3. The closest I've got to a double bass sound is with flats, playing with my thumb over the fingerboard, and I think it was on the bridge pickup with lots of highs rolled off. I would guess a compressor set with a very slow attack may also help Oh, and fretless if you want to be able to do that slidey mwahey thing people go on about
4. It's difficult to tell from just words, but the first thing I noticed is that you're happy when playing higher up the neck, but not lower down, and this is probably because the octaver either can't track those notes, or can't produce the notes an octave below. A clean blend could be very useful (I always use one) but it's not necessarily what you need.
5. I'd just wire two cables to one footswitch. I wouldn't want to advise you to do that though as I don't have the electronics expertise to guarantee it won't blow something up.
6. I gave it a listen last night, it's ace! Some really cool sounds. It makes me want to bring my pedals back home to play them like I used to. It's not as fun in the studio, I always get distracted by the drum kit etc. Anyway, yeh, I will be listening again. I think I'll buy the download 'cos bandcamp kept cutting in and out last night
7. I see, I'd misunderstood what you were after. I wonder if some fairly heavy compression on a high pass filter would be what you need? It'd bring out all the natural harmonics from your bass. Then just blend this with the clean signal. That's how I do it in the studio anyway
8. Oh god I'm so confused now. If only my mind were to automatically colour code all the basschat posts for me!
9.
My understanding is that it's not in your vision, it's in your "mind's eye". Certainly, when I think about weekdays or the days and months of the year, I "see" them laid out as two different 3D doughnut shapes in my minds eye, but nothing appears in my actual vision.
So you don't just "see" colours, but shapes as well? Do different genres have different shapes? Maybe genres are colours and sub-genres are shapes, in which case, what's Deathdoom-core?
10.
All of those are factors, but moreso genre. Funk is red and sonetimes orange Pop is white. Techno is pink and can be white. Country is yellow. Metal is predictably black and grey. Rap is green!
Fascinating! Are you like Arthur Henry and just somehow feel that these genres are these colours? Or do you genuinely see the colours as some sort of tint on your vision?
11.
I believe you may have a form of synthesia. I have it, and it manifests by me seeing colours when I hear music. I like music which 'is' black, red, orange or purple, but I dislike music which is white, pink or yellow. Some music is genuinely white with brown chequers, and that's the worst. I've only ever told a couple of people about it up until now, for fear of ridicule, but after reading that it's an actual 'thing' I'm a lot happier to discuss it. I swear I'm not making this up, nor do I take drugs.
I've read a lot about this in the past. I'd be interested in what kind of music is what colour? Could you specify by genre? Or key? Or beat? etc
12. would you not just use a pitch shifter/harmoniser like a whammy or EHX POG?
13. Right, OK, so you'd be better off with an "isolated brick" PSU rather than daisy chain? I spoke to an expert* once who told me it'd be less noisy to have all my pedals on one daisy chain *an electronics dude who builds all the custom stuff for Magic Garden studio
14. I don't have this problem with my boss digital effects (Slicer and DD-20) on a daisy chain, but then my PSU can do up to 3amps.
15.
Pitch tracking - its digital, so tracking is perfect with no glitching
great review (you made me want one!), just wanted to say that there are loads of digital pitch shifters which do suffer tracking problems
16. I've been trying to figure out how to say wonkyily for 10 minutes now. I'm a FAILURE Learning to play everything in standard tuning is probably what proper musicians do, but I found the capo fit nicely with my dullard style
17. Going through the whole frequency range would not be a bad idea! you never know how the EQ is going to interact with your bass, amp, cab, and any other pedals you might have. Having said that... lows are 50-150Hz, low mids are after that up to 400Hzish, high mids are up to 2.5Khz then after that it's highs Lows are what you can feel vibrating you (or not) low mids can be muddy or boomy or tight high mids can be honky or cutting or growly or smooth Highs are "sizzle" etc For a "tight" sound, you probably want less lows and controlled low mids, so a bit of compression and a subtle high pass filter. It's very difficult to figure out what you mean though. Anyway, on my parametric EQ I have it set to boost 800Hz to give me a nasty gnarly sound for certain sections of songs
18. I used to tune down and then use a capo Pitch pedals can be great (I have a couple) but they'll never feel the same IMO
19. I would say I'd want the frequency to be adjustable, as well as the Q. So, it'd be gain, freq, q, blend, volume. I wouldn't mind if the volume was a tiny little pot on the back next to the jacks, kind of like on my XP-100 I'd love to have such a pedal but no doubt wouldn't afford the price of one of your finished units, sorry!
20. Sorry to hear this Pete, I hope it works out for your return!
21. sorry, I don't think you have many options. It's a shame because it's a great mic, I use mine loads
22. Sorry, I know the basic questions are annoying. So it's definitely a problem at the mic end as you've ruled out the pre-amp, phantom power, and cables. However, your techy guy says the mic is fine I guess temperature/humidity will have an effect on the diaphragm, but nothing significant. I have the same mic and it never cuts in and out, no matter what the weather. I guess you can try a different techy, or skip it
23. Do you have another mixer or preamp with phantom power you can test it on? Just to eliminate the focusrite unit
