STOP CONFUSING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First, I didn't like P-basses. I bought two of these (both white). Second, I am not a fan of tortoise-shell plates. And you're making me question that too!!! That's a seriously nice combination. Hmmm.
Just face facts Jose, Sue Ryder has been responsible for your further education. You'll be looking at Squiers next, a slippery slope.
Just snagged a pick-up from an 80s Jazz Special (the model Duff McKagan uses apparently!) from eBay for £32.77! What's the best place to get some CTS pots + Sprague drop cap? There's a New Zealander that does a kit for ~£25. Anyone had experience buying from him?
Found these on the bay if it's a help. It's been a busy old day in the life of my Dark Ryder. This morning it was sat there in pieces in the studio feeling sorry for itself. By lunchtime the postie had delivered some bolts and lugs for fitting to the replacement neck. Never used these before but the neck has been on and off so many bodies in its life and had so many holes in the back. These have been filled and I set to work drilling the holes to screw the lugs into. It worked out quite easy to do and makes changing necks very easy indeed. New neck on, not a bad fit, not quite as tight as the Ryder neck but still a good fit. I put some old strings on to see how she looked. Oh dear, the neck had quite a bow so I set about adjusting the truss rod. That done and the saddles adjusted, it needed a shim. Off with the neck, so easy with the bolt/ lug system, shim made and fitted and neck back on within 10 minutes, Great action now, just how I like it. Findings. The bass side of the tone pot is a lot quieter than the treble. I was hoping to get away without changing the pots but I think I was being a little optomistic. The pickup is OK but I think a Wizard might be on the cards. Still to do. I was going to change the pickguard but this one is growing on me. Watch this space. I'd like a matching headstock but knowing me I'll probably never get round to it. Straplocks Pots and pickups but I'll wait to hear how the brand new strings sound first. I even found time to take a few quick shots before the sun went down. It's been good to find a home for the old neck, saved me selling it on. Hope you like it so far. Steve.

Jose recently bought a bass neck from me. Fast payment and great communication. A real pleasure to deal with. Gracias hombre.
and here I was thinking I was overdoing it by buying another bass I decided the white one with rotosound tru-bass flats should stay as is. Too nice to modify... So I need a recipient for the maple board neck that's on its way to me! A navy blue should be on its way shortly, and this one will be heavily modified: - stripped body, and if nice I'll leave it natural. If not, refinish in white/sonic blue/surf green/black (as you can see, I haven't decided). Maybe even trans green to complement my Jazz. - maple board neck - Wizard thumper pickups - maybe even a preamp one day. but that's nothing compared to the plans of some other people who love scientific calculators...
Wait till you see the Navy blue, Jose. If it's anything like mine you'll soon change your mind about stripping it.
Hi, it seems we meet at last. I am the guy who sold you that lovely bass. Can i say that i totally didn't mean to mislead you with the sale and i might well be an inexperienced seller. I am truly sorry that you are dissapointed with the sale. This was never my intention. I have sold a few basses, posted them in their cases and this has never been an issue before. Perhaps naively i believed that the case was adequate protection. I have been a bit around the world playing bass and must be very lucky as the majority of time my basses have survived well enough in bass cases. That said, i am looking at this completely differently as you are a BC'er and not some idiot trying to rip me off. I am happy to send you £20 towards the cost of a new case. I just bought a new case for a jazz bass off of Thomann and it was £43. How does that sound?
Speaking as a neutral in this, I think this is a reasonable offer from the seller and probably best accepted. Shake hands and move on. A lesson learned by everybody here. Steve.
I just ordered mine without comment and it turned up with lead, strap, gigbag but unfortunately missing the saddle allen key (no biggie - but could someone let me know the size???). Think it's just hit or miss B.
Have you looked in the bag with the lead? That's where mine were hiding. If no joy then the saddles are 1/16 inch and the truss rod is 5/32 inch. Hope you find them. Steve.

My navy blue (Dark Ryder) just arrived. Came with decent gig bag, strap, lead and Allen keys. I was surprised to find it had a maple fb as I hadn't given a preference and was expecting rosewood , which I prefer. Both pots work well and it sounds ok-ish with the supplied strings. The neck is nice and straight and I was amazed to find the intonation only needs a little adjustment. The neck is a little chunky for my taste, I plan to fit a JV Squier fretless neck, let's hope it fits. All in all, for the price of a couple of sets of strings, this really is a no brainer. Almost forgot, the dark see-through navy gloss stain looks amazing, you can just about see the wood grain through it. Worth the money for the body alone. Steve.
Just ordered a Navy Blue and sent an email requesting a maple board. EDIT: Has anyone checked out the soldering on these bad boys?
You're just down the road, we'll have to compare them when they both arrive.
-
Just taken the leap and ordered the navy blue one. I feel a new fretless looming.

I recently bought a Squier CV neck from Fran. Couldn't have been easier or more pleasant. Great communications from Fran and the neck arrived so well packed it took me ages to get at it. Fran is a real pleasure to deal with and highly recommended. Steve.

My 62 JV Squier. Bought new in '83 and later de-fretted and a Badass 2 added. Everything else as stock. Love the neck and never had the need to change the pups

Could I be added to the list please. I'm not too far from Cambridge. Thanks.

Hadn't thought of that Bigthumb. I'll contact them and see what they say. Thanks.
Well from having a look at my WCA cab (only a 211 but similar concept) the "custom" drivers look pretty close to an Eminence Delta. the WCA 411 is a 600watt cab although it peaks at 800watt, and judging from what you've said you've got the 4ohm model, so really if you can get your hands on an Eminence Delta at around 200 watts and 16Ohm, you're winning. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-10-EMINENCE-DELT...=item5d2cbc6e92 that's always an option.
Thanks Goblin, that looks like a leading contender at the moment unless someone knows otherwise.
I'd just replace the bust speaker with a nice 16ohm Eminence or Celestion if it was my choice. It depends what the odds are of you blowing another one in the future though.
That was my first thought Goblin, any ideas of which speaker would match up well with the remaining three?
-
Right Basschatters, here's my problem. I've blown a speaker in my 4ohm Warwick WCA 411 cab. I checked out the Warwick site and a replacement will cost in excess of £100. I believe the speakers are custom Eminence speakers although I could be wrong....any ideas? Looking round a few sites I see I can buy a full set of speakers for under £200 and leave the remaining 3 from the Warwick for future projects or for selling on. So, my question to you is what would you put in the cab, a complete new set or just replace the blown speaker? I want to keep the cab at 4ohms. I hope someone can give some good info. Cheers, Steve.

Back in the 70's we were playing a charity concert that was being transmitted live to the whole of Central and South America. About 10 seconds into the first number my lead packed up and it seemed like ages before a replacement was found. I swear I had every TV camera aimed at me while I fumbled to get back up and running.
I,ve just got experience on the p-bass one and it,s a good bass for the money especially if you can snag one s/h
Thanks Bassmachine, very helpful. I've read that the build quality is quite good. I'd probably swap out a few things but the body and neck build is quite important. I've also looked at the Squire VM JAZZ but I've never been a great fan of maple fretboards. The Vintage jazzes look like a reasonable alternative.
-
Hopefully I'll be able to come, depends on work commitments. Can I pay on the day if I can make it? Steve.

I'm looking for an inexpensive bass as a backup and these Jazz copies seem to be getting good press. Has anyone on here had any real world experience with this bass? Thanks in advance, Steve.
Hey welcome to BC from another Yorkshire born Suffolk dweller.
Hi Andy, glad to see I'm not the only one doing missionary work round here.
Adding myself to a long list of people who can't help you with what size Allen key you need, welcome to Basschat
Thanks for all the welcomes, a really friendly place. I've done a bit of research on here and hopefully found the answer...it's 1/20in or roughly 1.3mm. Just ordered one from Ebay so when it comes I can lower the action and save my fingers.

I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Steve, living in Suffolk but originally from Yorkshire. I'm just getting back into bass playing after a 14 year lay-off ( I broke my left hand in 10 places.....ouch) I was playing professionally for 7 years but then settled down, got married, had kids, the usual stuff. I'm slowly rebuilding my gear and just got a Hartke HA4000 and a Warwick 411 cab. My old bass, which is a Japanese Squier '62 Precision fretless conversion has been dusted off and still sounds awesome. My left hand is getting used to the strain but still has a long way to go but getting there. Well, that's me in a nutshell, not ready for gigs yet but maybe someday. One question from me, what size Allen key do I need to adjust the saddles on a Badass 2 bridge and where did I put it? Thanks for reading and letting me join your site. Steve.
