-
Well they sounded bright through my brother's Trace BLX combo although I did have to re-tune after about an hour or so. Unfortunately I'm not gigging now so for the occasional jam and recording session they'll do ... Don't think I would use them on my Musicman I'll stick with Ernie B's on that...

strung my Tobias Pro last night with a set and I'll get to play it tonight and let you know what I think.

I bought a couple of sets, out of curiosity, I'll put them on tonight and let you know.
Hmmm.. good question.. about 8 years ago I spent about 90 quid per pickup.. but I'm pretty sure they must be cheaper on ebay etc. There are plenty of alternatives out there too, everything from Bartolini to Seymour Duncan.. you have also the option of changing the preamp too, with an Aguilar, or maybe one of Jogn East's awesome preamps? (You can find out more in his own forum here on BC) Other options include going for passive pickups instead of active.. but thats purely down to taste. So far, I think I am an 'active' man!
cheers dood I'll need to go searching the net then.....or maybe I'll bring the Musicman out of retirement
For help, go to emginc.com, download the colour catalogue, as it has a page that describes the physical sizes of each pup. (there are different sorts, with different sounds) You will be looking at the 'Extended Range' soapbars to fit your Toby 4. I'm guessing the pickup size will be the '35' type. I use 40P's in my Tonbias and 45DC's in my Shuker.
what sort of cost am I looking at roughly? I had the guitar out last night for the first time in about a year for a wee jam with my brother and a mate and through a Trace BLX combo I thought yeah this guitar deserves an upgrade...

I have a Tobias Pro lefty4 and have always thought that the p/up - active electrics a bit on the disappointing side. Has anyone upgraded/changed one of these?

Replacement drivers for a GK Backline 210
johnm replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hi Folks My Gallien Kreuger Backline 2x10 self-imploded on Saturday during a gig, which apart from being a pain in itself, just so happened to be at a gig when Bass_Ferret came to see the band.. Most embarrassing when there's a fellow Basschat member in the audience!! Managed to get through the gig though (which went really well) and resolved to look at it the following day..So Sunday morning I opened it up and checked it out and though there's no visible signs of damage to the cone or coil, one of the driver's has definitely gone and the other sounds like it's going to follow suit. My first thought was to get rid of the whole thing but then I got to thinking it'd be worth repairing it and either keeping as a back-up or maybe selling it on? Any suggestions as to which way to go; should I get cheap drivers and shift the thing or get some really good ones and keep it? And where do I get them from is the other question... Thanks, Nik
Have you tried the importer Beyer Dynamic they'll give you a quote on how much it'll cost to repair. -

I played in a wedding/function band and the only time we were asked for Liability Insurance was when we played in Ramada hotel chain premises, in the social clubs we played and other hotels we were told the responsibility was with the venue. Bear in mind I've only ever played in Scotland so don't know if the law differs in England/Wales.
