which flatwounds for stingray/maple neck??
alstocko replied to herman's topic in Accessories and Misc
I've been through a lot over the years, and I've settled on Laklands. A great flatwound tone and feel, with clear mids and smooth highs. And they're cheaper than most, too.
+1 better tone, better string tension (for me) and damn cheap! Much better than TI and Labella IMO! -
are there any super bands with poor bass players?
Really..?? post Nigel Harrison...?? thought he was pretty solid ..??
Listen to the original demo of "Heart of Glass", it's bloody awful. All of them play horrifically... -

Bill Wyman is only going to be used for a "couple of songs" on the next Stones tour. Do Keef and Jagger think he's poor? Keef did record Sympathy's bassline whilst Bill played marracas... -
It's a difficult call because I wouldn't call either them super bands in terms of their artistic achievement ( or lack thereof ) but special mention must firstly be given to the bass player out of Coldplay . He is desperately bad , and I think even he knows it . He looks like he is completly out of his depth and expects to be exposed as a fraud at any moment . The other notables are whoever occupied the bass chair in Oasis ( Giggsy and Andy Bell I suppose ) who similaly never played a worthwhile note , and didn't seem to care either . I always thought the bass player out of Pulp was awful too .
I agree with Oasis and Pulp, but I do Like for of Guy Berryman's (Coldplay bassist) playing. The bassline to Shiver from their first album is good, and Paradise has an earth-shattering line. He may be one of the least technically gifted players, but he holds his part well enough, and looks cool whilst doing it. Andy Bell just cared about the cool bit, his notes are all over the shop, like Noel Redding. -
Motley Crue? I also remember some band somewhere that had to re-record all the bass parts laid down by the original bass player because they were so bad. I think it might have been a Trevor Horn produced track...was it Frankie Goes To Hollywood?
This was Blondie. I talked to Trevor about it a couple of years ago as he is a FOAF, he said it was a bit awkward... -
You might have to practice your dance moves! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13oXf68zRcM
The hooligans look sh*t hot all the time. What a great group of musicians
Yeah it makes sense, thanks. I think I'll keep the precision controls as they are, and get a stack knob for the jazz pickup's volume and tone controls. Anyone have a rough idea of what that would cost?
Good Enjoy the mods, post pics!

Well, there's several options here: 1. You can go the "standard" volume, volume, tone arrangement and rout a hole in the side of the bass for a jack. 2. Do the same as above but with volume, blend, tone 3. Get two stack pots and wire them as volume, tone, volume, tone (whatever order you like of course!) this is more messy but saves routing of extra holes 4. Do the same as 3 but with one stack pot and one normal one, making it volume, volume, tone 5. Keep the pots the same and make it master volume, tone with a pickup switch (handy, but not too flexible!) Personally, I like the sound of the challenge of number 3! (I hope that makes sense!)
Don't see why not - it's not like it's against the law or anything
I heard that you can get an ASBO (Anti-Social Bassist Order) for pulling that kind of stunt!

In the first video it looks like the bass has 60s spacing. I love this spacing Pretty sure it's rounds, even with my iPhone speakers... -
I got some for my jazz fretless off eBay last year sometime , will have a look through my messages later and see if I can find the seller .
5 string ones? Thanks man

In Lakland JO5 Markbass LMT Markbass 2x10H Epifani UL2-112 Out Fender White Marcus Miller Markbass 2x10H Marshall MB210 All dealt with here on BC!!! I was sad to see my baby go, but it was too heavy, not my tone at all and the JO5 is incredible! Also, I discovered that I prefer 1x12s to 2x10s (for now!)

Arrived this morning guys, so panic over. Birthday was great I'm phoning tomorrow to thank the guys at BD. Thanks for the advice

Experiencing flats at the start of uni was a revelation to me. Just over a year on and I now grate my teeth when playing someone else's bass with rounds on. The only rounds that I'll play are on a fretless!

That's what I mean, I don't want to be a tool by stomping my feet because I know at this time of year it is mental

Not a poke a BD, just wondering what the times are like for delivering gear? Just because I bought an iGig from them on Monday night, and although £10 is alright for postage (I guess), I have no idea when it will arrive, especially with postal stuff all hectic at these times! It's my birthday tomorrow, so I was going to give it as a present to myself, and I have a gig on Saturday that it'd be perfect for. Any ideas when I should expect it? Any previous experience? (It's my first time buying online from BD) Thanks, Alec

Portable cab to go nicely with a MarkBass Little Mark Tube...?
alstocko replied to charliethornton's topic in Amps and Cabs
I use an Epifani UL2-112 with my LMT 500. Match made in heaven (Matt Garrison and Herbie Flowers both use them!) -
Up for sale is my beloved valve combo! It's a Hughes and Kettner all-valve 20 watt combo. It has two channels (clean and overdrive) which both sound delicious (the valve overdrive is to die for!) The sound is all put out by a Celestion G12 8ohm speaker with an external speaker jack out too. There's an FX loop and a DI out in the back too. There's a built in power attenuator, that's a great feature that allows you to push the valves hard at low volumes, making those rock tones practicable! Also, built in spring reverb! Had the power valves redone about a year ago, and has hardly been used since (only in the house) all re-baised by a proper amp tech (the preamp valves were replaced soon before then! Unfortunately times are hard and I hardly play electric any more, so it has to go! £175 seems very reasonable to me, collected from Warrington please! Peace, Alec

I've just replaced my keys player for my jazz/funk/r'n'b project. It was a real ordeal getting a new one in for the upcoming gigs! He decided to let me know that he had gone home from uni till January because he's "broke" a day after he left. I told him to go and copulate with himself. He has already missed four of the last six rehearsals, three of them without good reason...
