1. What version is the real book (6th edition?)
2. Pretty much the same, the new pickups are basically a PR trick. They sound VERY similar...
3. +1 to the wooden ones
4.
At what point is this a MM bass then... ? as MM was all about Sadowsky sound in the J bass as far as I am concerned.
It's not that much like Marcus' actual bass, as his has a sadowsky preamp and better pickups. The tone is ridiculously thin for my tastes...
5.
Haha we know, just pulling your leg Keep us updated on how you get on with it all. Regards, BSB
Haha, I know, just thought I'd call you on it It's out on another gig tonight at Scarborough Jazz after a new set of DRs go on it. Love it!
6. Hey guys, I recently got a Hiscox case with the Lakland that I traded over BC, but it seems to lock itself every time I travel with it (twice :/). This is a real inconvenience as it didn't come with a key. I have to pick the lock now so it's been moved into my spare gig bag. As I love the bass, I want to keep it in the case, but this problem is so frustrating I'm giving up... Any suggestions before I throw in the towel?
7. Haha guys, but I'm serious this time! As long as this works I'll keep it, as this is THE tine that I've been searching for, all in a reasonably-priced passive bass! The scale length is a bit weird compared to others, but after a week or so of playing I'll be completely settled in. The low B on this is HUGE, much bigger than the 34's I've played (including Fodera and Marleaux basses!), but I'm unsure whether this is the same across the board...
8.
Aha! Abit late posting but really glad you ended up with a bass you seem to love and cherish more than your Fender
I was a bit naive thinking that mine was worth more. I've found a bass that I could've easily paid several thousand for with a tone to die for. This is how a jazz should sound like! I hardly notice the scale length as I only play this at the moment. It had its first big tonight with the Jazz-drum and bass trio (tracks will be up here after we go to the studios) Thanks to all for the help. I can see myself sticking with this bass for life!
9. I wish I could afford this for my lakland!
10. Man, that's incredible! Cut yourself some slack! Next week you'll be saying: "why don't I have chops like Janek?" Seriously well done!
11. Great gig! How come David isn't doing it anymore?
12. To all those interested, I went through with the trade and I've ended up wih a beautiful bass which I prefer to my Marcus Miller already, so a big win!
13. I played one a couple of years ago. If only I was wiser back then!
14. Wish I could afford this! Just got myself a 5er too... This is a truly amazing bass! Don't be put off by the looks! (I'm not, I love them!)
15. Do they come with the screws?
16. Thanks so much guys! You've been so helpful! One last question to the Lakky owners, what do you think about the 19mm spacing at the bridge?
17. Loving the intense debate while I was at rehearsals Firstly, I bought the MM because I played one in NYC and loved the neck, I was lucky in the fact that the one I ordered had a similar neck. This may be blasphemy, but I'm not a fan of the bridge pickup placement or the pickup itself. The whole thing is way too bright for me. I was young naive, and had some money to buy a bass with. I want a five string because I play a tonne of session stuff that needs that low end, and I see this bass as a good option as I'm working towards being a session player, playing groove based jazz funk and gospel, not a virtuoso. Any more thoughts?
18. Ahh ok, that's one sweet deal for that bass! I've seen them on here for 750 for the last 6 months so just assumed that it was. I've always like bartolonis but the covers don't really work on the standard jazzes for me. John east makes some sweet preamps. I would just buy one of those for my MM, but I've been meaning to move to 5 strings for a while...
19. Not a fan of the Marcus tone, the preamp isn't great, and the pickups are a bit out of my taste. On the plus side the neck is a beaut...
20. Unfortunately not man I'm don't know what to do then...
21. Thanks guys, unfortunately trying out he bass before is not a viable option, so any thoughts as I'm not 100% satisfied with my bass at the moment
22. This can be so many things, and as much as I live to promote the DIY approach to bass, as it improves your knowledge of how your instrument works, I would say take it into a good guitar store (bass store preferably) and ask for you bass to have its action, truss rod and intonation looked at. I've found that this is the most common problem when it comes to fret buzz. EDIT: +1 to the above comment. A bit of fret buzz is natural...
23. Thanks for the reply, Unfortunately I haven't and as it's in Somerset and I'm in Hull it doesn't look likely... I've listened to tonnes of laklands sound clips on their website, and it sounds brilliant. With the extra money I could afford to but a decent active preamp in it (if I want to) or some other pickups (again if I want to). Thanks
