First time at the Moffat Bash for me. Look forward to meeting some of you.
Same here. When abouts does everybody get into Moffat? Don't want to end up getting there too late/early.

Best place to buy Elixir strings, please
Cameronj279 replied to PauBass's topic in Accessories and Misc
I tend to use Amazon as getting them anywhere else for a 5 string seems pretty close to £50 last time I checked. eBay is worth looking at. got a 5 string set for £30 a few months back. -
I have heard that story but not about Jimmy Moon (who has an oustanding reputation as far as I'm aware). There is another luthier/repairer in Glasgow whose first name is Jimmy and whose name I was given in relation to horror stories but I'm not going to risk getting BC into trouble by posting his full name.
You've got me doubting myself now actually as I know it was definitely Jimmy something. I think I'll edit my comments actually. Wouldn't want to mistakenly slander a mans work.
Really? I have never heard anything other than glowing reports.
yup. heard a few people who went to get pickups changed and they've replaced the likes of £100 pickups with £40 ones etc. I use this guy : https://m.facebook.com/wjsguitars
Jimmy Moon, based in Glasgow is a fantastic luthier. Highly recommended.
I've heard a disturbing amount of horror stories about someone of a similar name. Edited because I'm now uncertain about which Jimmy I heard the stories about.

Alpher Mako Elite five string - Warning: Buckeye Burl content
Cameronj279 replied to Kev's topic in Build Diaries
Not normally fussed by walnut but it is a very pretty (and surprisingly large) cut of it! Are you going for a walnut neck too? -
Can't stand the guy or his music. Nothing but boring music badly sung in my mind.

Looking forward to it Alan. Found out that someone who I've known online for about 5/6 years but never actually met works in the hotel we're booked to stay in...which was unexpected!

I see the whole 'recording yourself playing a cover and uploading it to tinterwebs' thing as quite useful tool for some people. It's a good way to look back at your playing and see how you have improved over time as well as giving you the possible option of getting feedback from musicians from all over. Although with it being the internet it generally ends in someone saying you're sh*t nomatter how well you play.

Comparable experience for me would be in college last year and the playing exam involved playing Sir Duke in a band infront of 6 of the lecturers and a tv camera knowing that they were all scoring me on the performance. I royally chuffed up the first time we played the little riff but nailed it the second time. I think it's just a case of knowing that you're being scored based on it as I don't get nervous at all for gigs (and cant' recall ever being nervous for one) but was terrified to do this.

Some of the comments on this really are embarrassing.

Nickleback.... er do disco funk????????
Cameronj279 replied to LukeFRC's topic in General Discussion
Quite enjoyed that. I always get quite confused by the hate they get as they have some pretty good songs. Although saying that they do have some seriously horrendous songs (rockstar being the main example). People should focus their musical hatred on a bands more deserving of it. Linkin Park. -
It seems like an incredibly cool bit of kit. Looking forward to see if they end up catching on and getting used by regular folks.

Nicked this thread from another forum but it just seems like a good idea for a thread really. It went pretty great. We've been working one song for a good few rehearsals now and it's starting to come together. Guitarist had came up with a new section that sounds great and really fits the song. And despite it being the new section being in 7/4 (I think it's that anyway!) he got it really quickly. He's not got a few of the other weird timing stuff quite as quick but luckily we rarely use anything other than 4/4. Although we're now stuck for what to add to the end of that song but I'm sure it'll come eventually! The singer made the song into a midi file -which generally sound hilarious- and I think it sounds pretty great even as MIDI nevermind real instruments. So how was yours? Cameron

Do wish I could go but can't justify the expense of travel nor the amount of GAS that would no doubt be caused by it. Have a good time all.
I should be in Birmingham
Nobody should be in Birmingham. Ever. On another note. They were excellent when I saw them in Manchester 2011 and when they played Royal Albert Hall the next year (went to both dates). Weirdly of all the gigs I've been to (majority of them are metal gigs) Primus has been the gig where I've felt the crowd to be most energetic.

Recording discipline - your top tips for a young band
Cameronj279 replied to The Admiral's topic in General Discussion
Good thread and some good advice I shall be putting into practice since I'm about to be in almost the exact same scenario as stated in the first post. I've done recordings in the past but they've mainly just been cover songs which didn't really involve much bass and not anything quite as complex as what I'll be recording soon. -
Primus, their music is ahem....an acquired taste.
I agree. Bloody love them though!

First gig - looking, um, glum, really...
Cameronj279 replied to Johnm93's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't worry about it. I always look somewhat depressive, even when on stage. Not long ago had someone should "Cheer the f*ck up mate!" mid song. -
Got my ticket for Manchester in the presale this morning. Was £35 inc postage for people like Kev wondering about prices.

Another one ticked off the Bucket List - hopefully
Cameronj279 replied to Nicko's topic in General Discussion
Nine Inch Nails. Always sold out so impossible to get a ticket!
Annoyingly I had standing tickets for their gig in Glasgow last year but 2 days before came down with a serious case of man-flu and couldn't go. All the fuss went into getting the tickets on presale ruined. Tool would be the band that spring to mind when I think of "must see". I saw Rammstein a few years back (I think 3?) in Manchester MEN Arena and the show was incredible...and hot...very hot. -
3.5 hours is simply impatience. The OP should get a grip.
As harsh as this is. I totally agree. I'd be fairly unhappy if something was only kept for 3 and a bit hours then sold on. I've had a few new members on here mess me about a little (generally just expressing interest and then not replying for a few days/weeks) but I've also sold quite alot to people who have 0 posts and they're generally great to deal with.

Best effect pedal for muse/song 2/etc. - WITH ACTIVE BASS
Cameronj279 replied to Guinness21's topic in Effects
I use a B3K and I'd say I could achieve a pretty close tone to many Muse songs. -
I like the celtic influence. Makes the song stand out from 'normal' rock music IMO. I'll maybe try and get to a gig at some point if you have any nearby
-
I agree with the 'so many bands have sucked the groove out of superstition' comments. The only Stevie Wonder song I've played live was Sir Duke (annoyingly only to play it once live!) But it went down brilliantly, even before the showy offy part. Really satisfying when you dont screw it up too.
