There are so many amazing soundtracks but one that really stood out to me was Daft Punks Tron Legacy soundtrack.

Known about his stuff for a while and he sure is a fantastic bass player who seems to rarely be mentioned. This was the first video I saw of his. Full song is Pimpasaurus Rex for those interested https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS7nlmS9Yxs

I really like that dark headstock on that one Ead!

That's going to be an extremely pretty bass. Subscribing to this thread!

Dingwall fanned frets, hit, miss or maybe??
Cameronj279 replied to chrisanthony1211's topic in Bass Guitars
Definitely a hit with me. I found them extremely comfortable to play and actually found playing around the first few frets on the Low B/E easier on the Dingwall 37" than on my Warwicks 34" neck. -
Haven't until now although I'm listening to "The Cause" on YouTube from one of their shows in Glasgow and liking it!
How do YOU know? You don't know their buy costs and overheads.
Indeed I don't and didn't claim to know either. I did however misuse "Mark up" though. I mean from the view of general consumer a several hundred pound saving is quite drastic.
Bit of a moot point this as we are talking about music gear that people don't actually need, but want. Therefore, if they can afford the £850 bass, say it has taken them a year to save for it they only need to carry on saving for another 3 months and then they can pay the premium, which then means that good music shops can continue to provide great service like the one that Grangur enjoyed.
I agree however as I say several hundred pounds can be a lot of money for people especially when money is so tight for so many right now. I wish I was financially comfortable enough to voluntarily pay a premium like that. As I said (and what seems to have been ignored) I generally buy second hand as majority of gear I would use isn't in local shops but when I do find something the price hike is generally quite small...usually only a tenner or so.
You can always haggle.... but thats a two way thing. As I said initially.... majority of people purchasing don't give a toss about anything other than price of what they want.
A lot of people can't really afford to pay a premium on things though. There are lots of factors. I do however get the OPs point that the mark up is quite drastic at times. I never really find too much of an issue as I tend to buy second hand and when I buy new it's generally not much of a price hike for buying in store (a tenner at most).
Been playing 11 years and believe it or not I don't really have callouses! But yeah keep plugging away chap and your hands should toughen up (or your nerve endings might die as seems to be the case with me )
I'm in this position. Never developed. callouses but rarely seem to get any pain in my fingertips. Just keep at it and don't overdo it and eventually it won't be sore to play

Hi Sharkfinger. Yeah I am. Forgot to put that on the post! edit for clarification : Yeah I'm happy to post...not that I'm very kind!

Hmm...it'd probably be this... Spectorcore 5 £400 - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/252708-warwick-dolphin-5-sn-bongo-hh-5-spectorcore-5/page__pid__2649666#entry2649666 Hartke LH500 £180 - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/251005-hartke-lh500-amplifier-in-rackbag-now-l180/page__pid__2626083#entry2626083 Ashown Mag 410 £120 - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/250506-for-saletrade-ashdown-mag-410-tdeep-evo-ii-cab-now-l120/page__pid__2632138#entry2632138 Polytune Mini Noir £40 - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/252698-for-sale-polytune-mini-noir-tuner/page__pid__2649571#entry2649571 £740 all in if my sleep deprived state isn't stopping me from being able to carry out basic maths. Would possibly add the Darkglass B7K to it as well for £220 and still have £40 for fruit based soft drinks.
I have never owned a dingwall, only tried a few in shops, but I kinda get the impression that the fanned fret thing is the main focus and the actual sound the instrument makes is maybe a little sterile... definitely try a few out if you can.
I can only second this. I loved how mine felt to play but the tone left me a little dry. The low B was superb though and I miss the bass a lot (to the point I occasionally wonder if I made the right decision). But I had played Warwicks exclusively before the Dingwall so missed having that 'growl'.

New Ibanez Fanned fret basses. Nice and cheap!
Cameronj279 replied to dave_bass5's topic in Bass Guitars
As a current Dingwall owner that is exactly what I like about this - proper Ibanez string spacing and thin neck. I really don't get on with the huge dingwall necks.
Huge Dingwall necks? When I had one I found the neck to be pretty damned close to Ibanez thickness wise (which I loved). -
No official meetings here. Just bring up issues in general conversation. We're all a bunch of mates and it's not a covers band so maybe that makes things different.
-
flat board and asymstrical necks are a joy to play. I imagine that combined with fan frets would be perfection but that's another variable. The first time I played an ACG with the Flat board/asymmetric neck I felt it was quite chunky but after 5 minutes it all made sense. worth trying if you can give it a go!
It also helps if you've got a neck and arms & legs that are longer than R2D2s...
Sometimes. I think one of my issues are that I have an incredibly long neck and it's somewhat freakish depending on what angle you look at me. Also the fact that I simultaneously manage to be skinny and have a beer belly may have something to do with it.
It's all in the posture, darlings. Stomachs in, shoulders back and down, luvs. :-)
Still working on mastering that fine art it seems
What to your other band members wear?
Drummer generally wears a vest/shorts (cause he's a sweaty little percussionist), other two generally t-shirt (or shirt) and jeans.

Reading through the stage outfits thread and my recent secret santa gift (Great idea to whoever it was by the way) has got me thinking about how I dress more on stage. I'm lucky in the sense that it isn't a covers band and don't have to attend smart functions etc but I would like to dress nice every so often. Basically I have this horrible ability/curse to wear any sort of smart clothing and look like I'm going to court. I can just about manage to wear a shirt and look semi-comfortable but anything more than that and I just look/feel a bit ridiculous. I can't be the only one...can I?
Looks great. I loved the feel of the Dingwall I tried at the bass show a couple of years ago (and had a good old chat with the affable Mr D himself) but the basic tone of the bass did nothing for me sadly.
This what what I found with the Dingwall I owned. The bass was incredible to play but the tone had no character for me. Saying that. the Fan frets to me made sense when the B scale was 37" but I'm not so sure there would be much of a difference with it only being 35". I could be proven wrong though! -
Oo. now that is pretty. what preamp did you go for?
-
I imagine The Gallery would be able to do that?
Personally I have absolutely no problem with this. Why would you want to pay a person to do this work when an NC can rip one out more accurately, and in a fraction of the time?
I agree with this to a certain extent but I would say there is something special about having a fully handmade bass. Saying that. I'm in love with how the Ibanez looks (and the thin necks are as good as you get IMO)
