1.
I was always taught that if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing at all, of course I took no notice and that's why I am disliked by anyone on here with a Ricky bass
Following the advice of my signature I see Pete
2. Some shops (or more the people who are running them) just have off days. I've had excellent service from shops where I have also received horrible service. The horrible service was extremely similar to Shockwaves but for a boss GT10B. I would send them an e-mail explaining what happened. They may go out of their way to make it up to you (think free stuff!)
3.
tremolo do the same but nervously....
If I were to use only 2 pedals it'd have to be my MXR Compressor and Darkglass B3K (although this will be getting upgraded to a B7K at some point)
4. Very pretty bass.
5. Gone.
6. Thats gorgeous. If you fancy accidentally sending me it I'm sure I'll find it in my heart to forgive you...
7. Put up a post in general discussion last week about being uncertain about the sound of my bass and Rob incredibly kindly offered to send me a Behringer BDDI pedal and wouldn't even accept payment for postage!
8. Perhaps he tried to get compensation for his time/effort? It's impossible to really say without knowing the full situation between the two though. I can understand Doug not being happy however...I know I wouldn't if I was in that situation.
9.
If Spencer made a bunch of prototypes to test different finishes out for Doug while they were still working together, with his own time and materials, what is he supposed to do with them? They cost him time and money to build so why not sell them on. Are those complaining saying he should destroy them or give them away for free?
I agree with this but there is definitely more to it as he appears to have been selling the NG-2 Preamps which Darkglass currently haven't put on sale yet.
10. Just been on the 3 Leaf Audio page and it seems that they are selling (or should I say have already sold) one of the Darkglass on-board preamps. Shady dealing in my book. I can't say much on who would own the legal rights to the pedals as quite frankly I don't have the slightest clue unfortunately.
11. It's pretty and menacing looking. No easy achievement I imagine!
12. Can't say I've noticed MM players being particularly militant...Fender and Gibson users on the other hand... I can understand people feeling passionately about their instruments I suppose.
13. I definetly found the DR coloured strings to die pretty quickly, usually within a week and a half which (in fairness) is longer than Ernie Ball/Rotosound/Fender strings have lasted for me. My sweat must be made of acid or something but D'addario prosteels and Payson SS strings are the only strings that have kept their zing for more than a month for me. Including Elixirs which still sounded great 8 months later (only stopped using them as I sold that bass and can't actually fit them on my current bass).
14. Looking good! I'm liking the all dark neck/fretboard especially.
15. Yes. I have done in the past.
16.
Read about it last week on TB. It really upset the Dingwall owners. " It's a rip-off " " But Dingwall don't hold the fanned fret patent Novax do " " Well Dingwall's licensed is the Brice ? " " No the patent's lapsed so it's open source " " Well it's still a rip off and probably has a sharp fret too " Love reading those threads.
Can't say it would remotely upset me. If anything I find it pretty nifty that other companies are giving it a go on the cheap. They could have changed the body design a bit though.
17. Just saw Protest the Hero again tonight. Spector bass through a Mesa 8x10 rig and it sounded beefy and clear as you could expect when competing with such busy guitar and drums. Great mix! I also agree with that Spacey said. I don't have a great deal gigging or recording but I always get confused when I play gigs with shared backline and I'm the only one who bothers their arse to change the amp settings for their bass or even the acoustics of the room. To be honest, the one time I have saw it changed, the compression was up full essentially turning it into a mute button.
18. Saw this posted by No Treble yesterday. would be curious to compare it to the Dingwall. It is a fraction of the cost after all.
19. At least I got the most amusing name! That was my intention (genuinely, I forgot it was a competition)
20.
Are you playing this fingerstyle? If so then let your plucking finger come to rest on the E string after you strike the A at the 7th.
This.
21. 40 quid Posted?
22. Most likely. He is running a business after all.
23. I second Interparcel. Always worked for me, even shipping a fairly pricy bass to Sweden once, had no issues.
24. Cheers for the replies folks. I'm thinking of trying a sansamp BDDI or Tone Hammer pedal at some point when funds are permitting (not for a good while then!). Something to add a certain hint of aggression and beefiness to the tone!
25.
The external preamp solution has worked for me time and again. Also I think you should try it first - it's the least expensive and most risk-free option.
My main issue with that then is lack of "on the fly" tone shaping. Currently needing to shift quite drastically (more than can be changed by technique alone IMO). I do think I will give it a go first however but won't be for a good while I reckon.
