Had the occasional salesman plugging the bass into a tiny little inaudible practice amp (often a 5 string so the low B is even worse than usual). Had one guy offer to plug a bass into a guitar amp...

I may put up a trade ad as there's a few basses I have in mind and am certainly in no rush to get rid of the AB1 but your description there is pretty much what I'm getting from it. Love how it plays and feels (and how little it weighs). Miss that Warwick growl though.

The only thing I'm thinking of when it comes to that would be if the sound is coming from the pedal is it justifyable to have such a pricy bass. Thinking maybe part ex for an NG-2 or maybe a Roscoe. I think it's maybe just general GAS.

I may give the external preamp a go if I can borrow one at some point. I think it's the same for me Gary. I'm so used to using Warwicks which cut through most mixes with little/no EQ'ing.

Personally I'd hold out and try and get a second hand SR505. Little more expensive but the step up in quality is huge.

Long story short I've owned a Dingwall Afterburner 1 for a good few months now and love it. The feel of the bass is superb and the fan frets are incredible to play as well as the famous B string (and it weight almost half of my previous bass). However. I've found myself feeling like the tone is somewhat "clinical" to my ears and I'm not one for wanting to change eq's on amps too much as they tend to vary so much from amp to amp it's near impossible to get a consistent sound. Even in rehearsals I've found myself constantly messing around with amp EQ's just to get it to fit in the mix correctly. I was considering going down the route of putting a preamp in it but I'm not certain wether or not it may just accentuate the issue I already have with the bass tonally or not. It's a large expense for me to do that at the moment... one that I just can't afford with the rest of the money I'm needing to put towards the incoming ACG. Perhaps it's just GAS speaking?

Bass mix in live concerts.... Disappointing?
Cameronj279 replied to lowendgalore's topic in General Discussion
The last band I saw live was Sikth and the mix was nothing short of perfect. Could hear every little accent clearly. Was fairly surprised at how good it was actually. Rammstein also had a near perfect sound live. On the other hand I've saw so many bands with horrible live mixes I don't care to count. -
To 5 string or not to 5 string? That is the question.
Cameronj279 replied to kulabula's topic in General Discussion
I say try it and if it works great. If it doesn't work you at least know. If you buy from on here chances are you shouldn't really lose money on the bass if you do decide it isn't for you. personally I find 4 strings quite awkward to play! -
I've always liked these. The thing that bothers me most of all is not the fan frets..but the whopping 37" scale...WTF! How does anyone with normal/ small hands negotiate with that??
You'd be surprised how easy it is! Because of the way the bridge is angled it actually doesn't feel much more of a stretch than a normal 34" scale bass. Worth trying one out I say!

Why Don't Guys Care About Their Appearance?
Cameronj279 replied to blue's topic in General Discussion
I wear clothes that fit (for the most part, my jeans are a bit tight at the waist to be fair) but in all honesty, I have more important things to worry about than my appearance. There's something about seeing bands go on stage all dressed in clothes that they aren't 100% comfortable in and dressed the exact same as the other members that I find a little embarrassing and off-putting. I only ever go see bands that I like now so it may be a part of that but I think if the music is good then why should I give a toss whether the guitarists jeans match the singers t-shirt? -
To throw a spanner in the works here. Out of those two I think I would go for the Ziracote.
-
I have to duck very slightly when going through some doors (not all mind!) And I am about 5'11.

Beauty of a bass Kev! I just wish they didn't come with the P pickup or else I wouldn't have considered shifting mine! Easily the lightest bass I've owned as well, even with my current bass weighing 8lb 1oz!
-
I've only ever used the MXR Bass Comp but I love it and have no desire to change it.
-
It looks proportionally off to me. I think because of the vast space between the bridge and the bottom of the actual bass. Personally I'd be going for a second hand Warwick at that price.

Great except from getting my only hoodie nicked. I did royally bugger up one of the chordal sections however nobody noticed...I think.
If you send us exact measurements we can try and set up a bass as close as possible to the same size and measure for you Edit - we did this recently for someone with an extended Alembic and discovered that the only thing that worked was a Hiscox abs case.
Not exactly sure who it was I spoke to but you guys also made sure they would fit my Dingwall! And even measured strings for me. great service. edit to answer Ambient : Mine is still as it came from Bass Gear.

I use one of the Vertigo bags. I bought initially as it was all I could really find that would fit the Dingwall in it but it's a great bag. There is great neck support inside and its about as sturdy as I imagine you can do without making it extremely heavy. I generally take it to college with me 3 times a week on public transport and have no complaints.

Seal of approval from anybody is a good thing in my mind Douglas! Thanks for the nice comment I also do know what you mean about the low end but I found when I added any extra it got a bit too muddy within the mix...but then I am totally useless at this whole recording/mixing malarky!
I enjoyed that, only on lappy speakers but the song is great and from what I heard it won't need too much production work .
Glad you enjoyed

So my band finally got something recorded. Although it is just a demo so the production isn't the greatest! anyways, here's the tune! - https://soundcloud.com/goon-and-the-kings/dark-side All comments, criticism and general sarcasm are appreciated! If you liked the tune there's a Facebook page made (with bugger all liked as we don't even have a logo yet! (how professional...))! https://www.facebook.com/goon.and.the.kings Cheers
