1. I love my Dingwall AB1. I find the frets to be extremely comfortable and the only time I've had to use any extra brain power is when using chords above the 17th fret which rarely happens. The low B is superb and definitely the best I've ever heard. I find it easy to switch between fan frets and 'normal frets', to the point the ACG I have on order shall have ordinary frets (mainly as I'm too skint to afford fanned frets and partially as the fretboard I have picked is already cut to size). In short. I'm glad I went it fanned frets.
2. I have yet to even try a Peavey bass but threads like this make me really want one. Seem to get huge amounts of praise.
3. Ryan Martinie. His sound blows me away everytime I hear it. I know he uses a thumb 5 stringer but that's where my knowledge ends.
4. I agree Elliot. Pics or it didn't happen
5. I played an LTD 6 stringer not too long ago. was £200 second hand and the Low B was pretty great. certainly usable! The new higher end sound gear basses have great low B strings too. at least from my experience playing a few in ye olde guitar shoppe.
6. I've been in bands previously where I used Drop G# and found it was pretty decent sounding on (my then bass) Warwick Corvette which is 34". I also found an ACG that I owned briefly to have a fantastic low B (tuned to Bb) but that's out of budget. I would say Warwicks would be worth a look as they can be picked up for under £500 second hand. If considering the 35" scale Lakland 55-01 have fantastic B strings. I can't really say anything about the DR strings except I've only read good reviews. I found Elixirs to be very punchy on all strings.
7. The Source Audio Programmable EQ really interests me. From what I can tell basically the same as the GEB-7 but you can program 4 different EQ settings into it and switch between them. Seems really useful in all honesty although possibly a bit finicky.
8. Will consider trades for money.
9.
Do me and your bank a favour and go for it I have priced it to-sell but the market the way it is I wouldn't bet too heavily on it selling quickly...
If I didn't have a Recurve on order I would have bought it from Andy!
10. Just when I was thinking this bass would stop making me want a bank loan. Hope this sells quick (for my sanity)
11. Would love to hear some sound samples ! Never heard a Letts bass before but they've intrigued me for some time and yours is gorgeous
12.
I never tune the same way as the guitars. If a low B isn't low enough I drop that, but the rest stays where it is. No point matching the guitars - leave the notes where they are!
I agree to an extent however sometimes I just like to be able to do the riff easier on the D string. Normally I do stick to using the B string (occasionally dropped to A)
13.
The tuners are to extend the range of the instrument, so dropping the E on a 5 string wouldn't be of any benefit. I'm confused why you can't just drop the B string down to A when you need to and play the E-string notes where they are normally. What am I missing?
I'm assuming for stuff when the guitars are in drop D. makes it easier for riffs and such at times. I'm having a similar quandry.
14. Sunday morning bump
15. Starting to take shape. I have also spoken to Alan about the bridge pickup position. I'm wanting to get it in a more 'musicman sweetspot' kind of position.
16. How are you liking the ACG Kev?
17.
Don't they have the fan shaped frets? That seems like a brilliant idea but I can't decide if it looks weird or cool....
They do indeed. They feel great to use and do get a fair few questions at gigs!

20.
I once played in a pub in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire. The first thing that happened was a bloke at the bar threatened me because I was an English guy in his pub. Then as we played (Pogues/Goats Don't Shave/Saw Doctors type stuff) we entered into some Jigs and Reels. Apparently we played a tune that had been hijacked by Rangers fans. Next the entire audience stood up as one and started raining down beer glasses and ash trays on us. We stopped playing and hid in a small room off stage with the door barred by bouncers. We were escorted out through the mob by said bouncers and hightailing it back to Glasgow
As far as Coatbridge goes you done allright to be honest!
21. Once played the wrong chorus. luckily it was an originals band and both were in the same key so it actually sounded allright.
22. It's an off chance but Dingwall Super J's look and sound great IMO. The frets are great too. 35" on the B so it'll sound pretty good I imagine.
23.
But what would you say are the pro & cons of the relationship you described? Blue
Pro's - Rehearsal is fun. I feel it makes us "gel" together musically better as well as when it comes to critiquing each others parts of the songs we are all less likely to take offence. Cons...can't think of any in all honesty. If I'm being overly picky I would say that maybe on occasion we piss around in the studio a bit too much but to be honest, it's resulted in one of our best songs so even that's a pro!
24. I'll start off by saying that I am 20 years old so do fit in the younger category you speak of. I am friends with others in my band but we don't necessarily 'hang out' all the time. We'll occasionally have a few pints after a rehearsal/gig and on the odd occasion go to guitarists house to work on songs in a more relaxed casual environment. So in short, yes. I wouldn't be in a band (certainly an originals band) with people who I wasn't friends with and to clarify. I didn't know these people before we started a band together so we've mainly bonded over music despite having seriously different tastes.
