1.
I'd have gone to see both bands "back in the day" had they been playing anywhere near where I was living at the time. However neither band has made any records I'd want to own since the early 80s.
I was lucky enough to see Simple Minds 2 nights in a row the week New Gold Dream was released, at a pretty small club in Auckland. They were awesome. Not sure I'd bother now. The Stranglers have never appealed to me.
2.
!!!!!!!!! More information needed
It was at the Kilburn National back in the late 80s/early 90s. The whole place was shaking when EN played - and it's not the most stable building (no pun intended). As far as I recall the crowd seemed to enjoy the support. No idea if it was a deliberate post-modernist ironic booking or just a nightmare for some poor promoter.
3. I once saw Teutonic noise merchants Einstürzende Neubauten supported by Showaddywaddy. Simple Minds with The Stranglers seems perfectly sensible!
4. Radkey, tonight in Leeds. Never even heard them.
5. Any chance of some sound clips?
6. Usually drummers, but not in Dinosaur Jr! A couple of people have mentioned Low - they decided to play quieter to stop people from talking, and it worked. The Low Anthem are similar - they can play a large room at whisper volume and keep the whole audience engaged.
7. I'll take them if they haven't gone already.
8. Succumbed. S212 ordered. Black with oxblood cloth.
9. I sold a Barefaced Compact to Gareth - it was a very smooth transaction, quick payer, plenty of comms, definitely recommend dealing with him.
10. I was at school with Neil. He's left Loop (after they briefly reformed and toured) and is back in NZ after many years in the UK, running his own label. Really nice guy, great bass player, and a very good footballer in his day - his brother played in the 1982 world cup and Neil himself was good enough to play at the top level in NZ.
11. Neil. I have a GK MB Fusion. Not looking to sell but if you want to try it to see about GK cabs you're welcome to borrow it for a practice. Martin.
12. The Low Anthem use a field harmonium to great effect. Have a listen to To The Ghosts Who Write History Books.
13. I bought Gary's old-school cassette player from him (someone had to - the ad was getting sadder and sadder). It arrived in excellent condition and the whole transaction was smooth as silk. Wholly recommend dealing with Gary. Cheers, Martin.
14. He's awesome isn't he. I'm going to Cuz at the Brudenell tomorrow night. First time I was him was with firehose back in the 80s (or early 90s).
15. I forget how to play the bass approximately half way through every gig... I think you'll be fine - any nervousness will disappear after a couple of bars.
16. Yes, we'd definitely pay a dep in that type of situation.
17. My little blues/soul combo will be playing tonight at The Junction, Otley. As it's Yorkshire Day I'll be sporting a new flat cap and speaking barely comprehensible English. There's be Yorkshire ales and someone in the audience will almost certainly have a whippet. Come along and say hello if you're nearby. Cheers, Martin
18. I got one of these recently after 2 previous goes with compression (Monte Allum-modified Boss and DHA Valve Compressor) which had made me think it was not for me. This one, however, really fattens up and controls the sound beautifully. It's always on now for me.
19. I bought Stu's pedalboard and power supply. Everything was in immaculate condition as described and well packed. Excellent communications. You can transact with Stu with complete confidence.
20. I have a vt-1 which is great. Where are you based? If you're not far from me you'd be welcome to try it out. I'm in Harrogate btw.
21. Does it have the offline facility like Spotify and is there a download limit (3334 tracks on Spotify which came as a surprise to me). Pricing for the family option is £14.99 for up to 6 people I think.
22. Can I ask where are for collection please. I can't see it on the mobile version. Cheers.
