1. My little blues/soul combo are in action tonight at The Cricketers in Keighley. Our last gig with our excellent but sadly outgoing drummer. Pop in and say hello if you're out and about in West Yorkshire.
2. That does sound nice.
3. I used Copydex after it was recommended to me by the ladies in the fabric shop. Worked a treat but its not cheap.
4. Another Noteflight user here. http://www.noteflight.com
5. I had one of these back in the day, might have been my first bass. Fantastic sounds and plays beautifully but mostly I remember the weight!
6. Rich, the PP18 sounded great at rehearsal, although the guitarist only used it for a few minutes, preferring his own amp (a Fender ...um...can't remember). It broke up at around 12 o'clock. Nice sounds but once the break-up started, the volume wasn't quite so loud. We didn't try it with any pedals, just straight in. The clean sound at bedroom levels is fantastic.
7. My little blues/soul/rock combo are playing a new venue for us, The Horsforth Hotel in Horsforth tonight from 9. Both BF Compacts will be in attendance. Do come and say hello if you're in the area. Directions etc on our website. Martin
8. Cool. I'm thinking of doing the 4W Champion clone next, but first I might do the mod on the PP18 that allows you to switch between 2, 9 and 18 Watts. I'm taking it to rehearsal tonight for the guitarist to use. - it'll be the first time it will have been used in anger.
9. I've always really liked the firehose album "fromohio" as well. Not sure whether it's still available anywhere.
10. Miles, I completely agree with Discreet's critique of the amp, it is top class. I'll be in Sheffield on 26th April - get in touch if you want to arrange a demo, I could bring it down, but won't have room for any cabs.
11. It was very good indeed. They're at the end of an intense tour so the bands are on top form. Well worth making the effort to go to the Harley in Sheffield for those who didn't make it yet.
12. Anyone else seeing Mike Watt with his Missingmen on their current tour? I'm off to the Brudenell in Leeds tonight. Thoroughly looking forward to it.
13. I've just built an ampmaker PP18 (18 watt WEM/Marshall clode) and its plenty loud enough and very clean. It will (I suspect) get dirty if I turn it up even louder but I haven't had the chance yet. It feels louder than my 30W Silverface Vibrolux Reverb.
14. Great gig last night at the Market Tavern in Knaresborough. Highlight of the night was a rather drunk young lady shouting in my ear while we were playing, asking if she could request a song. I said ask the singer. She said which ones the singer?!!! I found out later she then went up to the singer and shouted in his ear "Are you the singer?". They make em smart in Knaresborough!
15. LOL, its not 1st yet!
16. Wow this sounds very exciting indeed.
17. Fortunately my wife failed to get any tickes this morning. I'm mightily relieved.
18. I try not to go to any big gigs, just don't enjoy them, usually end up just feeling ripped off. Even seeing the absolutely brilliant Arctic Monkeys was a rubbis experience for me because of the venue. On the other hand, I could quite happily set up camp and live at the Brudenell in Leeds and go and see whoever's playing. Have been to quite a few gigs there over the last few years to bands I've hardly heard of, sometimes never heard, and haven't had a bad experience yet. Even Johnny Marr was ok on Tuesday! Next up is Mike Watt (whom I've seen before but have had no exposure to his current stuff) and then Melt Banana (whom I 've only just discovered and only heard a couple of things on youtube). Gigs like this are what keeps you alive.
19. Great gig last night, Neil. Sorry didn't have a chance to say hello. Really good band, and a brilliant solid bass sound.
20. I saw the Eagulls at their album release gig at the Brudenell recently and their bass player was using one of these (I think) through an old Trace 15". Sounded solid.
21. A copy of my old band's 12" single went for NZ$450 on New Zealand's version of eBay a few years ago. Madness, especially as I don't have enough copies to give one to each of my kids.
22. Check us out on www.motorcityblue.wix.com/motorcityblue and let me know if we suit.
23. It will be interesting to hear what you think of the GK. I love mine but I've not really used valve amps for bass so don't know what I'm missing. Interestingly I have the same experience as you regarding fingers/picks. I've always used fingers but occasionally I use a pick for a song for the sound, and I always end up throwing it away halfway through the first verse as it just doesn't have the power or control. I really like that badge you had made for your cab - I've just built a guitar combo and would love something like that. What size is it? Is it a standard finish (looking at the ordering options on the webpage)?
24. Would love to go but was out late at the Brudenall last night for Eeagulls and the remarkable Rent Boys. Enjoy the gig.
