1. Someone mentioned Vincent Gill -check out The Time Jumpers featuring him and Dawn Sears and lots of other great players. Their song "Faint of Heart" is one of the best new songs I've heard in years. I also agree with those who say lol to the past - Hank Williams wrote some absolute classics.
2. Rob Weinbrock in Sowerby Bridge did an excellent job reconditioning my Fender Vibrolux Reverb. He's a valve amp guy really but I'm sure he'd be worth talking to about your GK. His rates were pretty reasonable too. See here
3. Nothing but a tuner for me.
4. My son is 15 and turning into a great guitarist. He said to me the other day he'd learnt to play 'Holiday in Cambodia' and lo and behold he could play it perfectly, leading to an afternoon of jamming old and new tunes. Nothing better.
5. Yum indeed. Wrong colour for you, Michael.
6. Thanks Pedro, and your team - I'm sure you have everyone's support.
7. I'll take the LPB1 please - I can pick up fro you in Leeds (I work just near Bridgewater Place) if that's more convenient.
8. Have a look at the gig list on our website for some venues (link in my sig, below). We're not a pure blues band - my guitarist plays in a more authentic Chicago blues outfit - worth checking the places they play (these are pretty much all Yorkshire based apart from when they play festivals) - their Facebook page is here.
9. I did a Monte Allum mod to a Boss Compressor and was very happy with the results - it's easy to do and seemed to really clean up the sound.
10.
and Alan Lancaster, but go and get it checked
And Mike Watt. I've got an old Musicmaster which is a joy to play, albeit a little limited sound-wise. Its the one that gets picked up most often at home though.
11. My guitarist has started using a Blues Jr in place of his Twin and has never sound better. Lots of good ideas here - I particularly like the acoustic rehearsal one. Hope it works out Neil. If all else fails, I play a little rockabilly guitar...
12. I've seen them a couple of times at Ripley Blues Club in the last few years, with Derek the Draw. The way they work together as a band is really exceptional, and Derek is a very engaging front man. Well worth making the effort to see them, even if you're not that familiar with their stuff.
13. Morning all, my little blues/rock/soul combo are playing our last gig of the year at The Albert in Yeadon tonight from 9ish. Come along for some Fender + GK + Barefaced action. Cheers, Martin
14. Wouldn't say I was a fan, but 'Telephone Line' is a guilty pleasure that still sounds great after all these years.
15. Close enough to be tempting...do you know what time you'll be on? And do you think my 15 year old would be let in?
16. I have a 3 unit rack flight case into which my GK MB Fusion is mounted, and in it goes 2 x OBBM speaker leads, tuner, microphone, guitar stand, a couple of cables. Main cable goes in the bass case. Its very efficient, the only extra thing I have to carry (apart from speakers) is a bag containing mic stand, mic leads and power 4-ways. However I often think I'm missing the main benefit of a lightweight head and will probably get a laptop bag at some stage, or backpack designed for laptop like this.
17. Not a bass one, but a peculiarity of the way they speak up here in Yorkshire, is the use of 'while' when they really mean 'until'. "I'm working while 3 o'clock" means "I'm working until 3 o'clock" in Yorkshire. Problematic when faced with a sign at a railway crossing that says "Wait while the red lights are flashing"...
18. I really like the samples, and the performance on Later was excellent. But the recorded version doesn't have the same impact for me, and the video is truly dreadful. That performance on Later was magnificent though, and I know I'm in a tiny minority thinking that.
19. Don't think the FLICKR link is working. This reminds me of when I emigrated to the UK from NZ with three guitars and what clothes I could stuff into the guitar cases along with the guitars and nothing else!
20. Another plug for the MB Fusion. Where are you based? You'd be welcome to try mine out if you're nearby.
21. Just heard this from my daughter - very sad news. A true original.
22. i used a Barefaced Compact with my GK 700RB/115 and they worked perfectly well together. But once you've tried a Compact you'll start to think twice about humping the non-Neo cab about!
23. Sorry I didn't make it Clarky - long day in the office etc. I'm back in London at the beginning of November for a few days - let me know if you've got anything lined up. Hope it went well.
